Soul Calibur

Recommended Posts

Alright inspired by a status where people were talking about Soul Calibur. We thought it'd be nice to have a thread for it.

SO, Soul Calibur, fighting game that has had 5 main games as well as some side-games/spinoffs/etc. Big series, don't see it talked about much, so here's a thread. Talk about it. Much.

I remember a while back I posted a mini review about a video claiming a "new character" and when on a rant about how it was fake only to realize a while later that I was right.

EDIT: http://forum.yugiohcardmaker.net/topic/331328-soul-calibur-lost-swords-phoenix-reveal-mini-review/here's the link to the post (it's old so don't bother, but the Phoenix name comes from the set of clothing

Alright, the usual deal that occurs in a fighting game where characters have been cut from the roster over time: who do you want to return for SC6 that isn't practically guaranteed to (Ivy, Nightmare, Siegfried, Sophitia, etc.)

Personally, I'd love to see Kamikirimusi return, because about a third of my total time playing 4 was playing as her. The kanabo is a weapon you don't usually see, which is too bad.

Tira is my obvious choice but I'd like to see Talim come back as well as Yun-Seong, you already said Kami so I'll skip her. I'd also personally like to see Charade in place of the other "Edge master" characters (But if we got the godd old fashioned Kilik back, that would be nice.

From 3 or in general? 3 had some of my favorite bonus characters of all time. I feel like more of the Chronicles of the Sword characters should have been bonuses, I don't want to waste my slots for Riese (which I did anyway) or Aeneas.

EDIT: I just found videos that put Riese and Aeneas in Talim and Raphael's endings.

EDIT: Riese: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAFqs0nN8pE

Aeneas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kufpkjwfCd0

(this one looks kind of awkward)

And just for a random suggestion, I feel like in SCVI they should add the option for characters that are either missing certain parts (arms, legs, etc.) and maybe have that floaty torso thing like Nightmare did in SCIV. Also the option for no voice/growls (like voldo).

I actually miss Chronicles of the Sword mode from 3.

Just the thought of something like that, expanded so you can recruit/take down everyone in the cast.

I actually came up with a sort of fun thing to do where basically have some friends over, each one makes a character and the leader of the team moves them around the board but whoever's character gets into a battle, that person plays as them

So much want.

I agree, that mode was a lot of fun, and exactly the kind of extra thing I want in my Fighting games.

Not saying the tower modes and such aren't cool too but that was just something else.

Back when I had friends, we did what we called Marathon Mode-

Rules are simple: Try to beat everyone as one character. Losers must pass the controller on, until someone has gotten (number of characters in game) victories in a row.

I was the only person who ever won Marathon Mode, and that's partly due to cheating- I distracted my opponent with crazy references during the Algol fight. Every other fight I won fairly.

Because unlike other fighters (as far as I know) Soul Calibur is one of the few fighting games that involves custom characters, and CotS actuallly took a fighting game with customs and actually gave it a story

Played a fair bit of SCBD and SCV, mostly maining Setsuka/Talim (for SCBD) and DVJ/Alpha Pat for SCV. I quite like it, but it's not my fav fighting game. It feels too slow and clunky tbh. Plus no autoblock takes waaaaaaay too long to get used to. Character creation was super nice tho. Actually in retrospect the only thing that kept me interested was the whole character creation aspect of it.

It's funny cause I got so used to playing SC that when I played games with autoblock I was very very confused.

Does anyone else not like Patroklos? Not for is style, but his personality?

Yeah, funk that guy. He killed a person who may or may not have been malfested because he decided they were and no one could tell him otherwise. That's pretty messed up. He gets better, but still...

Also, why is is he Setsuka? I mean it's explained that Setsuka taught him but it's just so random for a Greek to fight using Iai.
