Index: Chapter 1 - Past Versus Future : Page 1, Post 1 ________________________________________________________________ Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: Fires of Intervention Chapter 1: Past Versus Future The cool sea breeze swept nonchalantly through the hair of the 5 new Duel Academy students as they walked up the dirt road that led from the pier to the main building. The red, yellow and blue domes reflected the sunlight in every which-way direction, tinting the surrounding landscape in a rainbow of colors. The surrounding sandstone obelisks stood as tall as ever, laying a pattern of shadows around the students. Kei Nagase just stared at her shoes as they collected dust lofted up by the students in the group ahead. Her short black hair fell in front of her face, slightly obscuring her vision. From those that knew her from before now, they knew she wasn’t normally this shy, but she never was good around strangers. At least she wasn’t alone. Walking alongside Kei was her polar-opposite, yet best friend, Ranpha Franboise. The two had known each other for years, and when the opportunity had arisen, they joined Duel Academy together. Ranpha let her long, blonde hair blow in the wind as she checked out the new male students walking ahead of her. First was Ed Winston. He seemed rather laid back as he casually walked along the dirt road. All he wore under his Ra Yellow jacket was a simple tank top and his black hair lacked combing. Rumor was he ran a deck composed of the rare Gladiator Beasts. Kei could have sworn she saw a small, lizard-looking creature perched on his shoulder. Next was Alexander Darge. Just looking at him made most of the other new students quiver in fear. He appeared as if he could tear your arms out of your sockets, but once you got to know him, he was actually quite friendly. His father was in the Emmerian Air Force, and those values had been passed on down to Alex. His “walk” was more of a march, and his Ra uniform was presented as if he was a General. To Alex’s right was Elzedar Sathe. Elzedar's Father was a pro-league duelist. He learned everything he know about the game from his father and even got his style from him. When his father past away, he was devastated, but what boy wouldn’t be? He wished that one day he would be as good as his father. He feel's as if his father is close to him when he duels, guiding his moves. That is the reason he duels, to feel close to his father, and one day be as good as he was. - - - - - Crowler- Welcome students, new and old, to the Opening Day Duel for Duel Academy. There was an array of cheers and woots from the students in the surrounding coliseum. The 5 new students sat on fold-up chairs stage-side. Crowler- Before the duel starts, I wish to make a few announcements. The scheduled match of Chazz Princeton versus Tyranno Hassleberry has been cancelled, and will instead be replaced by myself facing off against one of the new students, Ranpha Franboise. Ranpha- What?! Why me?! Crowler- Wasn’t it you, young lady, that said I looked gay when I greeted your little group at the front gate of Duel Academy? Ranpha- Well, it’s true… C- Excuse me?! R- Oh, nothing… but if you want a duel, you’ve got one. You best be ready to dance with the Angels. C- I’m the Head Administration Examiner… There’s no way I’d lose to a first-year slacker girl… R- Then let’s begin… Unison- Duel! Crowler: 4000/Ranpha: 4000 Crowler- I’ll start. Professor Crowler draws a card and inspects his hand. He appears to be quite pleased with it. Crowler- I activate the Spell Card, “Ancient Gear Castle”. Then, I’ll summon “Green Gadget” in Attack Mode (A:1400/D:600). (AGC: 1 Counter)By its effect, I’ll then add “Red Gadget” to my hand. I’ll set two cards face down and end my turn. Ranpha- Interesting move, professor, but I’ve got better. My turn. I summon “Angel Frame - Cross Caliber” in Attack Mode! (A:2000/D:100)(AGC: 2 C). A futuristic orange and white space fighter appeared on the field. While it looked like it had light armor, its massive twin laser cannons were nothing to joke about. Ranpha- Now, Cross Caliber, attack that Green Gadget! Crowler- You still have much to learn. You can’t win a duel by brute strength alone. Activate Trap, “Negate Attack”. Now your Cross Caliber’s attack is null and void. R- Fine… I’ll set one card face down and end my turn. C: 4000/R: 4000 C- Good. My turn. I’ll summon “Red Gadget” in Attack Mode (A:1300/D:1500)(AGC:3 C) and I’ll use its effect to add “Yellow Gadget” to my hand. Now, activate face-down, “Ultimate Offerings”. I’ll pay 500 LP to gain an extra Normal Summon, so I’ll Tribute “Green Gadget” and “Red Gadget” for “Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon”! (A:3000/D:2000)(AGC: 4 C) R- Dammit! Before you attack, I activate my Trap “Waboku”. For this turn, my monsters are not destroyed by battle and I don’t take any Battle Damage. C- You’re just delaying your inevitable defeat… I end my turn. C: 3500/R: 4000 R- I wouldn’t be so sure… I draw. I summon the “Angel Frame – Happy Trigger” (A:1900/D:1200) in Attack Mode (AGC: 5 C). And now this is where the fun part begins. Since there is another Angel Frame on my side of the field, Happy Trigger’s effect activates. I forfeit Happy Trigger’s attack and discard a card from my hand to destroy a monster on the field, and I choose your Gadjiltron Dragon! Go, Happy Trigger’s effect! Strike Burst! C- WHA?! An array of hatches opened all around Happy Trigger, releasing a storm of missiles, totaling almost 50 in all. Gadjiltron Dragon shrieked in agony before disappearing from the field. R- Now, Cross Caliber, attack him directly! C- Activate Ultimate Offerings. I summon Yellow Gadget in Def Mode. (A:1200/D:1200)(AGC: 6 C) R- Just as you said, Professor, just delaying the inevitable. Cross Caliber, destroy Yellow Gadget! Cross Caliber fired twin beams of bright orange light, lancing straight through Yellow Gadget. R- I end my turn. C- It seems I may have under estimated you, but now playtime’s over. Since 6 monsters have been Normal Summoned since Ancient Gear Castle’s been on the field, it has 6 counters, so now it can count as 6 Tributes for an Ancient Gear monster. Its time to Tribute my Castle so as to unveil my legendary rare card, Ancient Gear Golem! (A: 3000/ D: 3000) Ancient Gear Golem, attack Happy Trigger. Mechanized Melee! R- Dammit… (R: -1100 LP) C- I set one card, thenI end my turn. C: 3000/R: 2900 Ranpha was silent for the first time in a while as she drew her card, but then, it all seemed to change. R- I activate the Spell, “Galactic Conversion”! By this, I discard an Angel Frame from hand and send 1 from my Deck to the Graveyard. Then I draw 2 cards. Ranpha began to chuckle R- Now the fun really begins. I activate this, “Angel Force Union”! I return Cross Caliber and the “Angel Frame – Lucky Star” that I sent to the Graveyard for “Galactic Conversion” to my Deck in order to fuse them into the “Angel Frame Super Fusion – Masakari”! (A: 2800/D:2100). And now guess what? Since “Angel Frame – Brave Heart” is in my Graveyard, all my Angel Frames on the field gain 200 Attack, so now you Golem can’t kill it. (Masakari A: 3000) But that won’t matter much, because it’s dying anyways. Masakari, attack Ancient Gear Golem! Hyper Cannon! The massive mech brought around its left arm and leveled it at the Golem. The cannon mounted on the arm began to collect power, then fired. Ancient Gear Golem wheeled back its arm to counter attack. C- Why are you doing that? It’s suicide. R- Oh, really? I activate the Spell Card, “Limiter Removal”! This doubles Masakari’s Attack! (Masakari A: 6000) C- Clever girl… I chain my own “Limiter Removal”! (AGG A: 6000) R- Bloody hell… Masakari’s Hyper Cannon and Ancient Gear Golem’s Mechanized Melee each hit the opponent, destroying both monsters C- You should have know that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction… Its simple knowledge that just proves you should be in Slifer Red, but lucky you, girls are all put into Obelisk Blue… R- You seem to forget that this duel is still far from over… To Be Continued… [A/N: "You best be ready to Dance with the Angels" is pretty much Ranpha's version of "Get you game on".
