LordCowCowCowCowCowCowCowCow
I know it's kinda a vague topic but I was watching a Paper Mario LP and thought "Man I really love how they made this world". In fact I got to thinking it was one of my favorite RPG worlds. So the thing I wonder, YCM, what video game worlds do you think are particular good, and why? What makes the world so good. For instance for me I love when NPCs actually have dialogue that's...dialogue and not a barely concealed tutorial/controls thing. Makes me love a world much more. Yellow Jacket
Grand Theft Auto V/Online. Now granted the world doesn't offer much outside the city, it is really good to just get away from all the action and hike up Chiliad or go ATVing. The world in there is huge an its enjoyable using a submersible to explore the underwater world of it too.
Cosmo.
I know it isn't exactly special, but any The Sims 3 town just has a special place in my heart. Each one of them holds memories and it just makes me happy. Let's also talk about the stunning work the developers did with some towns such as Roaring Heights, Monte Vista, Dragon Valley or Aurora Skies. Each town has its uniqueness and i love it. Maeriberii Haan
Earthbound/Mother 3's worlds. The amount the creators put into the world, how everything is rarely, if ever, static, and everything regarding them is wonderful.
mitchermitcher
Trails in the Sky FC's world was amazing. so many NPCs with unique dialogue that changes as you proceed through the story. it's ridiculous how much world building is put into TitS. Not to mention the general lore and all that.
.Rai
Ori and the Blind Forest. That sheet is beautiful. It also finds an incredibly good balance between a freeroaming and a linear environment.
LordCowCowCowCowCowCowCowCow
Ori and the Blind Forest. That s*** is beautiful. It also finds an incredibly good balance between a freeroaming and a linear environment. You always manage to come up with things I've never heard about XD But looked up some screenshots and yeah, beautiful for sure. I'm glad I made this topic, already so many different style of things and reasons given, wonderful.
Fusion X. Denver
OP explained it already, but Paper Mario's world always captured me in particular. I genuinely enjoy talking to all of the NPCs and exploring the different towns or levels. Even Sticker Star, which put me off at first, eventually drew me in with its charm. I will always have fun traversing through a Paper Mario game.
Cosmo.
Oh fluff i forgot about Child of Light! The graphics make the world look wonderful and dream-like. The beautiful music that accompanies your journey helps set the mood and every character you meet is unique. Such a beautiful game
Shradow
The Dark Souls world. The kingdoms of Lordran and Drangleic are dark but with sort of a withered beauty, and I always enjoy traversing their heights and depths and the dangers within. And from what I've seen of Dark Souls III it's looking even better.
Lonk
Bionis and Mechonis in Xenoblade. You're traversing along the corpses of dead gods where the game's world is as big as Japan. Plus, so many cool collectables and enemies to fight and discovering locations even nets you EXP, AP and SP.
Cosmo.
Final Fantasy XIV's world, no explanation needed, it's simply beautiful. Or Elder Scrolls Online tamriel Unlimited. Do i really need to explain why? You CAN EXPLORE THE ENITRE TAMRIEL
Yellow Jacket
Oh yeah, GTA in general I often enjoyed just wandering around the world, always can find cool things. When players start getting hectic or modders are messing with people, I often go to the country side as it is quiet and you don't run into many people over there. Sixty
Skyrim. I'm surprised nobody has said it yet. It's one of the few games I've decided to walk around in and get my breath taken away.
Kazooie
Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie. I absolutely love the environments in both games. <
GarlandChaos
I agree with Kazooie. Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie's worlds were vibrant, lively, and colorful. All the more reason why I love them just as much now as I did when I was younger, if not even more so.

I'm glad I made this topic, already so many different style of things and reasons given, wonderful. It's not got as much attention than I had thought. It's absolutely up there with my favourite games of recent memory, along with Journey and The Last of Us. I'll be astounded if Ori doesn't get any game award nominations this year. Sethera
Offhand, the two Banjo worlds (and the multitude of worlds within them), a couple of the FF worlds, and the Assassin's Creed worlds are ones I really like. I'll probably think of more later though. I like the Mario worlds too, such as in Paper Mario or Mario & Luigi.
Face McShooty
Pandora and Pandora's moonbase (Borderlands), the fact when you fast travel to another part of the planet or moonbase and see all the differences between where you were to where you are and how vast each area is and the amount of detail that went into them is just amazing. King K. Azo
I dunno if this counts, but Asura's Wrath.Yes, you don't explore the world much, but the mythos... The blending of science and Buddhism. THE OVER THE TOP EXPLOSIONS and surprising good characters. Asura is father of the year.Yasha is awesome. The villains... They're good. Just... Yeah.
