network transmission's first boss is too damn hard

Too ha-- It's FireMan.exe! Sorry, but even I could beat it. Just get plenty of Aqua Chips.

Hehe... you don't realize how much easier your life will be since you picked blue over white.

You misunderstand, I got them on the Wii U virtual console, but I have a physical copy of 1 as well. But, to be curious, why, I've yet to start White, plus, you get a free gift just for starting: Blue gives you White exclusive chips and Vice-versa. Hopefully next Mega May we'll have Battle Network 5 and 6.

Well the reason why i say it's a lot easier for blue Is because of a certain giga chip called folderback.

Now if you pay attention to the name then i shouldn't have to explain it XD

Doing some research. I got the Bass GS chip and Delta Ray Edge chip, Mist Man v1-4. Hmmm... It kinda stinks we can only have 4 of the same chip from 3 onward. Ruins O-Cannon.

Makes you wonder how to get other giga chips in the Virtual Console versions.

So, you're an expert, which versions of 4, 5 and 6 are better?

I beat White.

White was easy.

Ha.

GG Blue Speedrun inbound (seriously if you beat white easily blue is 300x easier due to folder back)

I didn't like 4 so i can't tell you much. Blue Moon has Metal Soul + silver bullet (Super Vulcan with a ton of atk+s stacked + double point) and Wood Soul + Grass Panels so... i'd assume blue moon is the way to go.

For BN 5 i'd say colonel just because of the dark invis chip (Chaos Unison it btw, don't use it raw) and some shenanigans can come from the Souls.

BN 6 idk which is better honestly because they both have their ups and downs. Gregar seems more useful for super vulcan shenanigans though.

Oh boy oh boy

So, in 4, Red Sun's best souls are Roll Soul and Search Soul general-purpose, but Blue Moon is more combotastic for boss-killing due to it having Number Soul and Metal Soul which can charge Airhockey and Supervulcan on demand. But in the end, you're still functioning with a difficult chip selection which hinders your folder fluidity.

In 5... well, there's Double Team. Why bother with 1 version when you can play both?

That aside, each version has their wicked sick Chaos Unisons. In Team Blues (Protoman), Blues Chaos gives you Lifesword as a charge shot and Search Chaos can do upwards of 900 damage on a single boss if you have a few AreaGrabs. In Team Colonel, Knight Chaos has a lovely Dark Drill charge shot, Number Chaos snaps Infinite Vulcan PAs wide open, and Toadman has a godlike special ability for Liberation Missions.

In 6, the distinction is a little harder to see. Gregar's Crosses have more powerful Charge Shots so you can tear through random encounters in no time flat without needing Chips, but Falzar's Crosses have interesting technical applications. While they have a bit of a "force vs finesse" theme going on between them, I find that the speed aspect is difficult to emulate given BN's mechanics and hence the Gregar's increased damage output tends to glow better.

Also, the final boss for Gregar doesn't stand over a gaping void unlike those of the previous two games and Falzar, so your folder building options for the final battle aren't as restricted this time round.

One of the nice things about starting at 4 was that me and TAG would always get the mirror pair. I got Blue Moon, he got Red Sun. I got Team Protoman, he got Team Colonel. I get Gregar and he got Falzar. We also played a ton of vs. match against each other.

Also, this thread has gotten me REALLY nostalgic for the games and I'm STRONGLY considering buying 1 on VC.

red sun was probably the better version strictly because of roll soul, since it gives you stupid amounts of healing

colonel is by far the better of the two of bn5, due to the immense gap in power levels between the souls in each game

With regards to BN5's differences.

Team Colonel is better then Team Protoman.

You know why?

This:

ChaosShadow.jpg

yeah like that one

chaos shadow is the most op sheet i've ever seen in megaman tbh

gregar is the game you play if you like trashing bosses, falzar is the game you play if you like being flashy

I liked Team Colonel more. I loved Chaos Knight Soul.

chaos shadow, chaos knight, and chaos toad (and arguably chaos tomahawk) were the good souls in colonel, where protoman only really had chaos proto and chaos meddi

BUY BN6

CYBERBEAST CROSSES

SOOOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD <3 <3 <3

beastcross was the best part of bn6 tbh

When I get into 4, I will not use Dark Chips whatsoever.

the game strictly tells you to NOT use them so yeah, don't, considering they permanently drop your max hp by 1 with each one you use, and popping them causes bugs anyways so they're just a bad idea in general

it's only till bn5 where they become normal chips instead of appearing situationally, that really lets you "use" dark chips with the chaos unison mechanic

You know what's coolest about never using Dark Chips in BN4 (outside of a scripted battle)? Over time, you'd notice Megaman's battle sprite turn a lighter shade of blue than normal. That's when you start to enjoy the perks of the whole thing because you begin going Full Synchro at random, counter hits be damned. Even in the middle of a multi-hit attack.

...You actually start with the secret stuff?

It's been way too long since I played through BN4 Blue Moon and I forgot the problems regarding Woodman's scenario and various Navichips (usually because a lot of Navichips there weren't compatible with my code selection). I'm incredibly glad that those problems are worked out.

Now the next question there is whether they've worked out Protoman v1's AI...

Also if you want to demonstrate the upper limits of potential something has, you'd usually need to tread into Bass territory to see it done.
