I don't even think that it was that he was so young, but also that no one was expecting it. Most people didn't know he had any major health concerns. I did but had no idea that bile duct growths were that life threatening (in my googling it seems like its a type of cancer) and only a month ago it was said he was in good health. Everyone dies, and death is always hard, but when it comes out of no where your just left blindsided, never having the time to build up the normal defenses when you know someone isn't in good health so you feel the full weight of the passing.

He......he was just at E3. He seemed fine. I...............I don't know what to say. Um..............

</3

Yeah as people have already stated he wasn't at E3 because of "business", which let's face it he probably didn't want all of the fans knowing how sick he was.

People who bashed e3 are honestly scum :'/

And to think the last official statement we got from him about E3 was, to paraphrase, "Sorry for the lackluster E3."

How does that make you feel knowing that the last thing he said to his fans was an apology?

R.I.P.

Satoru Iwata

I think people's problems with Nintendo's E3 was that they were expecting some big announcements (and we did get some cool news still) and that they don't take into account that we know more about what Nintendo is doing that most other gaming companies because of their directs. Which also makes this really hard because its going to be weird to not have Iwata acting all goofy during them. Jim Sterling put out a tribute video to Iwata and the thing he said he loved about him was that he was the head of Nintendo, but was totally cool with walking out on stage just holding a banana. Which they replicated during the E3 conference. Another quote from Iwata I've seen people throwing around is "Video games are meant to be just one thing. Fun. Fun for everyone." and Iwata certainly showed that in everything he did.

But yea, since I can see the E3 topic spiraling out of control, so lets try to avoid that.

I didn't find out about this until recently either. :(

I got more attached to Iwata than expected from watching directs, from reading through "Iwata Asks" interviews, and from E3 shenanigans. Not only that, but his work has directly affected my life, like it has with Yui. I...this is a hard blow for me. :(

I woke up to this news this morning, and quite frankly, it still shook me up even now.

He's not the perfect CEO, and some of his decisions were questionable, but he's definitely a great one. He brought Earthbound into reality (which is still my second favorite game of all time), he is the one behind Wii and DS, and he does a lot of cool things. Being an executive that -understands- also is a reason why I see him as a great person.

Rest in peace, Satoru Iwata. Hopefully we can still understand the concept of playing games simply for fun without your heart directing us anymore.

I saw when scrolling back through the page. This is what I get for going through the feels trip that is tweeter atm. Still beard repeating. As does this fact that Iwata cut his pay in half when his company fell short of fiscal projections to keep people from losing their jobs. Man was a gift to the industry.

Indeed he was. I went on a short feels trip myself earlier when going through my twitter.

Still trying to process that this wonderfull man is no longer with us, particularly because I never knew about his bile duct problems and..... I just dont know what to say.

The man practicly defined who I am today through his work and was my greatest inspiration to go into game development. His work was my very first exposure even to games in general, and allways brought a smile on my face even when life seemed too harsh (to the point I think he has indirectly saved me from comitting suicide several times over) The fact that he's no longer with us has left a hole I'm not sure can be filled, but I sincerely wish Nintendo continues to prosper withouth him. Because I sincerely wish for Iwata's legacy to live on. What he gave us deserves to be remembered.

Thank you, Mr Iwata.

Thank you for having kept us smiling untill the very end, and may you rest in peace.

Let it be known a true gift to the industry has been taken from us.

This song shall forever be associated with him.

For millions to mourn over a CEO... Iwata was a very special person to have earned that recognition.

O god, my heart.

This is mine personally. It somehow works.

The first steps into the region Iwata made sure could be in the game.

Its a weird dichotomy between those two songs. The first is very sad feel and is fitting to listen to while mourning someones passing. This one has a more celebrity feel and makes for a fitting way to reflect on someones life. Maybe I'm just thinking too hard on it, but thats how they make me feel.

The saddest part about Iwata's death was that the last thing he did in our eyes was apologize about the quality of this year's E3.

One of the things I've seen a lot of people say about Iwata was that he was always very humble. I mean, when a phrase associated with you is "please understand" it kind of is to be expected I suppose.

Hey guys, so I'm putting together a tribute video. Would someone help me figure out where this is from:

Looks like it could be him showing off the wii chat functions, but after checking, it's not in any of the directs I thought it was. Maybe Nintendo of Europe? Anybody?
