As described on the Kickstarter page:

RED ASH is an opportunity to not only fulfill Keiji Inafune's desire to create a game that pays homage to Japanese animation, but also his vision of "immersing players in a freely explorable anime world." The RED ASH team is spearheaded by Art Director Kazushi Ito and Director Masahiro Yasuma, key members of the original team that pioneered open world game design with Mega Man Legends. With the RED ASH project, they aim to build an action adventure experience with a new level of freedom, complete with the polish expected from such veteran creators.

Sharp-eyed readers may notice that this project has inherited some of the DNA from our Mighty No. 9 project--specifically, the shared character names Beck and Call. We feel that this is an important part of the project: we're taking this opportunity to create an altogether different type of game together with the support of fans and backers. We want to continue embracing this new style of game design and production, challenges and risks included. With RED ASH, we hope to channel your passion for gaming into our creative process, and fulfill both our own dreams and the dreams of our fans around the world!

So now that Inafune is wrapping up Mighty No. 9, he's started a kickstarter project to make what is essentially Mighty No. 9 Legends 3 & I dunno what to think.

I certainly can't fund it because it's PC only and I don't have one.

No but seriously: The main character is named Beck, there's a mechanic named Call except she looks like Roll from MegaMan Legends. They have an old man backing them up who is totally just the father Bonne from MegaMan Legends. The scene they have in the Kickstarter video is basically the opening of the original MegaMan Legends, and the mechanical enemies in the game are basically reaverbots.

This is Mighty No. 9's MegaMan Legends.

I made the thread several hours earlier as well as a thread for the anime as well to accompany it, Agro you meanie. >.>

And how did you not notice the one already here?

By not looking for it :>

Anyway, there's not much sense about gameplay for this at all, which is unfortunate.

Anime would probably be interesting, if not just because I would have never imagined Studio 4C to be the studio of choice for a project like this.

EDIT: BOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Victory is mine!

Anyways, the storyboard video they showed off is really cool, though I wish there was some gameplay. I'm hoping stretch goals include more platforms (like Wii U, so I can have it alongside MN9, Yooka-Laylee, and Bloodstained). I only ever played part of the first Legends game and it was really fun, so if Inafune wants to make a spiritual successor to it that's awesome. I also think it's really cool how they want to make an anime alongside it (though I don't think I'll be backing that one).

I plan on pledging $49 for the digital combo (might've done $59 for the cool jacket as well, but the early bird is all gone and I don't want to spend $69), though I'll hold off for now to see how things go. I hope, "Legendary Blue special weapon" means essentially a Mega Buster.

PC Only is literally the only thing stopping me from funding it. A Legends spiritual successor sounds so much more interesting to me than an original Mega Man spiritual successor. And I funded Mighty No. 9.

Anyway, clear comparisons to Mega Man Legends:

1. They use "Legend" on the Kickstarter page too many times

2. Tyger looks like Tiesel from Legends

3. Call looks exactly like Legends!Roll

4. The opening of the kickstarter video plays out very similarly to the opening of Legends 1

5. You can customize Call's arm to be a weapon just like in Legends

6. The description of this game applies exactly to Legends

7. The description of the robots and the big one's design sounds and looks exactly like Reaverbots

8. The World's backstory is basically the Legends backstory

9. Oh, and he talks about a project he was never able to finish. Pretty sure that was Legends 3.

So basically, if this is just Legends except made with modern game design and controls, it has the potential to be really really good.

Like Legends was cool, but post-dualshock, it's control scheme was garbage. If this game has more modern shooting mechanics with more modern japanese game design and an anime aesthetic, it sounds a lot like a game I want to play.

Definitely happy about this update.

"A console port has been added into the Stretch Goals!

We've heard your voices and it’s clear that there’s high demand for not only a PC version, but also a console version. We think action RPGs like this one fit really well on game consoles too! After seeing your comments, our own Inafune-san took matters into his own hands!

We’ve made a little update to the Stretch Goals, as follows:

$1,000,000 adds a console port (1 system).
$1,500,000 adds Episode IV-V.

This brings up another question we’re sure you’re curious about: which console will it be ported to? Ideally we would love to port the game to all 3 current home consoles: PS4/Xbox One/Wii U. But porting Mighty No.9 taught us exactly how much it costs to port to a single console (which includes not only the port work itself, but also debugging and all other costs that add up). We take our ports seriously, and though there may be some sticker shock at the cost, we are planning wisely with the money from your support!

Another reason that we can't announce the console now is because we need to negotiate with the console makers. It's a big assignment for us, but we are confident we'll have great support due to the team's prior work with the consoles. We will keep you updated right here with all the latest developments on that.

Most importantly, we want to port RED ASH to the console most wished for by our backers. We will put up a preliminary poll soon, so you can make your voice heard and let our team know where you want RED ASH on consoles first! Then, once the campaign ends, we will send a survey to make your final vote! The survey will only be available to backers, so be sure to tell everyone you can about this big news! "

$1mil is reasonable with an $800,000 initial goal.

However, we're not even halfway to this initial goal.

They need to announce a system asap if they want people to jump in and get it to $1mil

And it's going to be PS4. It essentially has to be at this point.

Yeah, I think PS4 makes the most sense as well, given the Legends games being primarily on PS1. And I'll actually have one for Dark Souls III well before this comes out.

The Kickstarter only launched on the 4th, I'm sure we can reach $1M in the 24 days remaining.

Well, the console port is confirmed for PS4, but I'm afraid with only 10 days left and about $540k to go it might be too little too late. Things are gonna have to kick into gear if we want to reach even the baseline goal.

Aaaaaaand then this happens: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mightyno9/red-ash-the-indelible-legend/posts/1308824?ref=backer_project_update

I got no idea, guys. Feels sketch but as long as they deliver, whatever. At least there's 4 days if people want to back out of funding. I may actually throw my hat in the ring if the stretch goals are worth getting in now for.
