[MtG] Nyxwave (since I can't do Fish anymore)

Recommended Posts

Pretty standard Nyxwave build. Drop a ton of permanents to get your devotion up for Nykthos, untap lands with your dorks and Garruk, and ramp out a massive Genesis Wave to hopefully end the game. Dunno 'bout the sideboard yet, but I know it'll have 1-2 Spellskites. Paid good money for those suckers.

Creatures (22)

4 Arbor Elf

4 Burning-Tree Emissary

4 Eternal Witness
3 Wistful Selkie

2 Birds of Paradise

2 Voyaging Satyr

1 Craterhoof Behemoth

1 Primeval Titan

1 Ruric Thar, the Unbowed

Spells (18)

4 Primal Command
4 Utopia Sprawl
3 Fertile Ground
3 Garruk Wildspeaker

3 Genesis Wave

1 Banefire

Lands (20)

13 Forest

4 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx

2 Rootbound Crag
1 Kessig Wolf Run

Considering replacements as follows:

-2 Forest, +2 Wooded Foothills

-2 Voyaging Satyr, +2 Magus of the Candelabra

Chord of calling seems like it could fit well into this deck, instantly tutor out your missing pieces. Also, id replace the arbor elves with birds and hierarchs. You're not running any shocks so arbor elf loses a lot of its color fixing utility and having evasive birds is pretty good for ending the game with craterhoof.

My friend is trying out this deck, but with a new edition: Mass Hysteria. He seems to like it a lot, tbh. Might want to try it yourself.

Huh, that's a card I wouldn't have considered. Any word on how well it works? I'm trying to keep the number of red cards down since I'm not running any fetches.

Chord is good in the early game or if I was running a toolbox build (which my original design was), but if you're actually comboing off it's pretty lackluster. I may switch back to the toolbox-style list if testing proves GWave to be inconsistent, in which case Chord will go in.

And Arbor Elf is an automatic 4-of in this deck. T1 Elf, T2 Sprawl is probably the strongest opening play I can make.

He only uses 3 of them and usually sides them out, but it is a great card in the first game as it seriously makes everything a threat or makes all of the creatures a land, essentially. It has been doing well for him.

@Dae: Oh, interesting. Seems pretty similar to what I've got going (albeit with a better land base).

Few minor changes incoming:

-1 Forest, -1 Mountain, +2 Rootbound Crag

-1 Woodland Bellower, +1 Ruric Thar, the Unbowed

Dunno if I should keep the basic Mountain in to prevent against Tectonic Edge and friends, but I've yet to gauge how vitally important having it available is when I've so many other sources of red (Crag, BTE, Birds, Nykthos w/ BTE out to filter, Fertile Ground). Thoughts?

If they're wasting Tec Edges on your Red sources, they are playing a fair game when you can be explosive with Nyx. It isn't going to help as it is a splash for 1 card. Utopia Sprawl is also a red source as well. I think your sources should be Copperline as a 4 of instead of Rootbound unless your are more inclined with Roobound, then 2-3 is a fine number. Otherwise, your should be fine in most situations.

The landbase of his is because my group actually shares a cardpool with each other basically, so price isn't too much of a worry when we are testing decks. The deck basis is straightforward unless you go my greedy 4 color deck. I wouldn't suggest it at the moment, but hella fun.

Ruric Thar is a nice choice, I think. It seems spicy, tbh, and I am a fan of it. Haven't thought of the card too much. And because you don't get flooded easily, you really don't need more than 3 lands to properly go off anyways.

I think you have a good idea going forward. This deck is explosive, more resilient, and harder to get going than Amulet Bloom is in most cases, but doesn't have many ways to win the game instead of the linear means of attacking with big creatures and small threats, but it is very rewarding to play. Tell me if you need anything done and I could help you theorize a little bit.
