"Limited".

The word that ruined this game for me.

If that format has ruined the game for you, stop playing the funking game. This is a common, not an entire set. Wizards makes things for other formats, and some cards are meant for those formats; not just Standard. Thank you, Wizards, for appealing to more people than just Klav. Good for you!

To be honest, this is a pretty chill card. If it hit players, it would be a better Wild Slash, which is already a powerful card in Standard. I can see this card being incredibly good in limited, anyways, which is pretty pro. But it would be outclassed by Wild Slash in standard. It kills an early Fleecemane, which I can't complain about. Nice for the Atarka Red afterboard as it still can play most of its spells, I might be going deep.

No, it's the fact that the excessive amount of care for limited reduced the power level so low that this hitting face would be considered broken "because limited".

Also way to be a funking ass to me randomly again, you stupid jabroni.

And yes Rai I see you're reading this topic. Warn me all you want. I'm tired of this narcisstic retard.

Wizards is a company. Their import of players is mostly done through limited, and that is the biggest way for newer players to get into the game, while starting a collection and playing it. "because limited" is a legitimate excuse, as that is a fundamental means of attracting newer players. It isn't reduce the power level, as there is already a card that fits the power level in the format. I wouldn't want too cards that play a same role unless the format wasn't favored toward that archetype, so this seems like a healthy medium. This is also a Core Set, even if it is the last one. The Core Sets have always been underwhelming. Origins will just be in Standard for a longer time than most core sets due to the change in rotation, but I can expect more set expansions to be increased in power level anyways, as that kind of tends to happen. The excessive amount for limited, though, isn't excessive at all. You can think highly about other formats, but Limited will still always be a great way to gravitate newer players toward the game so it will never, any time soon at least, be less important and impacting to the development of a set.

Think of the last precedent of this kind of cards in the past...which will be Galvanic Blast

That was pretty powerful even in non artifact heavy decks and metalcraft is way more dificult to achieve than spell mastery.

So I guess they just went for the safest way to make this?

:p Chill, guys. Both of you have decent points, but the insult-throwing is totally unnecessary. I won't warn either of you (especially since this isn't my section), but, yeah, just chill.

To be honest, I don't even think it's a Limited thing. Wizards probably just don't want two Shocks in Standard. Which is incredibly reasonable. The difference between Shock and this in Limited is marginal at best.

I see the maker of this card went to the school of being overly-cautious with card design. As the card is now, this would probably only be played on limited strictly on the fact that it is removal, albeit very poor removal.

Then again, with Spell Mastery only needing two instants/sorceries in grave, this would be a bit much as a Shock -> Lightning Bolt. Make Spell Mastery need four, five, or maybe six and we can discuss Shock -> Bolt.
