[MtG] [ORI] - Alhammarret, High Arbiter

Yeah, the card's ability sucks unless that one card was something they really needed to carry the deck, and at that point, it can be surmised that the player's deck is bad.  The high mana cost doesn't help either.

That being said, I can't help but like this card; Sphinxes are one of my favourite creature types, this guy looks cool, and he's connected with Jace.  The flavour representation of his telepathic abilities is also neat.

The fact that Jace was able to toast the brain of a sphinx before he would have most-likely been considered an adult in most parts of our world is actually a scary thing to think about. Especially since the telepathic kid wasn't even trying to do just that, only deliver heavy payback for the being withholding information about himself for just over a year.

Kind of speaks of his potential raw power in story, doesn't it? :526110_key:

There is, however, something I've noticed about a lot of blue cards in general from WotC. Almost none of the ones depicting main characters are what I could call 'fair and accurate'. Either they are made fair and...welp, underwhelming, OR they are made accurate and...well, look what happened to the Jace the Mind Sculptor card for a while. That card got banned from certain formats for a spell. Unfortunately, this Sphinx's card falls under 'Fair yet underwhelming', which doesn't seem right for a being that was supposedly Jace's original mentor.

I think the problem is partly due to the costing; if Mind Sculptor was 6 mana, it might still be Modern-legal.  Similarly, if Alhammarret had abilities that actually matched its mana cost, or vice-versa, this would be better.

Just my thoughts.

As for Jace's power, if Mind Sculptor, Memory Adept and Omniscience (assuming it's one of Jace's abilities) are any indication, Jace is a very deadly walker that shouldn't be messed with.

Well, Jace has dabbled into Clairvoyance magics as well, so Omniscience could very-well be a part of his magical arsenal. In fact, the only real branch of mental magic that he's lacking any strength in is Telekinesis...hehe, even trying to lift a fork leaves him drained.

...well, I take that back, there is something he can kinetically manipulate without draining himself...and that's himself. Causing a rabbit punch to move twice as fast, allow himself to fly and  a few other things I'm forgetting at the moment...gonna have to go back to diving into Agents of Artifice to see what I forgot. However, this can be worrisome. I can easily see someone using the various mental passageways Jace may have forged to pull off his stunts of self-manipulation in order take rather-easy control of him...

Nicol... 'clicks tongue' As much as I love dragons, WotC at least needs to pick a different Big Bad for a plot for once. Just about everything can be traced back to Mr. Scaly there...

To be fair, New Phyrexia wasn't his fault; it was Karn's (which was unintentional, but still).

He did send Tezzeret there though, because he had to be involved in every major multiverse plot.

'clicks tongue' Welp, it's official.

Alhammarret's an asshat. Or at least I view him as such. This is also gonna make playing out Jace in the GCRP that much more interesting...

EDIT: Hmm...that promise Jace makes can make for an interesting fanfiction idea...centered around what could have happened if he had at least remembered that promise...
