Final Fantasy VII Remake

Smear

I'm glad I've been playing my friend's copy of FFVII through Steam sharing, now I can stop doing that and wait for this without having bought the game myself. This is gonna be really cool, people have been wanting this for ages.

Hahahaha how long do you plan to wait?

No really though, I'd say, just finish it.

Well this is interesting. Not...too sure how I feel about it. From what I've heard the game doesn't quite stand up as well nowadays. At least not compared to how loved it was when it was first out. So it'll be interesting to see what they do with it.

That being said I never played much of 7 so it'd be an interesting chance to play it.

Of course I don't have a PS4 buuut if it turns out good maybe eventually I'll get it.

I havent actually played ffvii yet. I've tried but I got into games a lot later than most people so the age gap from the game is too big and I just cant get into it no matter how much I try. I'm really keen for this to eventually come out because I've heard so much about ffvii that I really want to play it and actually be able to get into it.

I'm curious about this because I think it'll either be amazing or it'll break the hype around FF VII for good.

I'll play it when it comes out, but I won't be too hype for it. I have slightly more hope for Square's ability to make the series work again since Bravely Default was released (Whilst not a direct FF game, it was still amazing).

I loved Bravely Default. Awesome game, and I really like the mechanics of it.

I played FFVII when it first came out. While I was a bit young, I was old enough to understand the story and then I just kept replaying it again and again as I got older. Haven't played any of the other games in that universe except Crisis Core but I didn't get very far before I got distracted by something else (my video game attention span can be pretty short ^^;).

Tbh, despite its pixel-y graphics, I still really love the game. Could probably be all nostalgia idk, but I'm perfectly fine with there never being a remake. Not that a remake isn't an awesome thing, though I'm a bit afraid it won't have as much magic as the original did for me.

Probably what I'm most looking forward to is what they'll do with the music. Final Fantasy has gone far with their music, and a new-and-improved remix of FFVII's soundtrack could only be a good thing imo. Speaking of that, their rendition of "Beyond the Wasteland" from Advent Children gave me chills (which also makes me wonder if they're going to incorporate other things from AC and/or the other games into this remake or if it'll be completely faithful to the original).

Yeah, I'm gonna be honest.  I can totally see this going very poorly.

REASONS

1) Changing/Dumbing down the gameplay.

2) Changing the characters.

3) Cutting stuff.

1) I can absolutely see Squeenix trying to "update" the gameplay to appeal to a "wider audience."  I'm talking either real time combat or just some other contrived nonsense.  The level up system was pretty simple in the original, so I guess that could use a bit of a tune-up but I can see that going very poorly as well.

2) Emo Cloud.

3) Cloud in a dress.  And a lot of stuff.  Go back and play FFVII.  It's goofy as sheet.  And that's what makes it great.  Look at any modern FF game.  Melodrama all the time for some reason.  I worry they'll change this.

This is what I'm mostly worried about. Cloud is seen by many as an emo badass type which is really not all that he was, in fact he wasn't very "emo" for a lot of the game that I actually saw. But I can see them making this his main trait and that bugs me.

The second thing too, ugh. I love those goofy things but I can see them cutting it out.

KILL THIS HEATHEN!

OT: Okay, what makes you say that?

Because Square was never the same after the merger, where this game was made before the merger.  Squeenix's management over the years has been done very poorly and it would result in this game just pandering to popular culture instead of going with what made VII so great.  Tenta listed the reasons in-depth in the post, but Squeenix's management is what will make this remake suck.
