DARKPLANT RISING
ohai guise, this is Darkplant speaking. Old guys would know me, new guys would not. Anyhow, hello, and in some cases, nice to meet you.I have quit this game several years ago, and not long after that, I have also become inactive in YCM. However, some of my real-life friends still play YGO, and as a result, I sometimes hear information about new interesting cards from them. Thing is, I used to be an insane idiot who spent most of my time thinking up new decks, and at times I get nostalgic. This results in me logging in to DN, building the deck based on my intuition and dust-covered knowledge, proceeding to testplay several times, reporting what I found to friends, and then quitting again.(Yes, this means that this visit to YCM is extremely temporal, and that chances are I will not be here next week. Sorry guise, but I’m too busy existing in the real world.)So, the other day, I heard about these new Toons. I remembered about how three years ago, I tried to make a Toon deck, only to fail rather miserably – obviously, because the category back then was generally so horrible that one’s eyes would erupt into flames and evaporate the second he glanced at their horrifying effects.Things have certainly gotten better.I found this “Toon Burn” deck to be a hilarious concept. I believe it to be worth a try, and at least based on the five test duels I did on DN yesterday, it works quite amazing.Oh, and if you wonder how well it went: 2 wins, and 3 quits on the opponent’s side. This occasionally happens when you use Burn, so it’s probably a better idea to say sorry to the other guy the first time you use a burn card – like, “sorry for using Burn, I really wanted to test out this concept”. If the opponent is a normal human being with a decent mindset, he would probably not quit. If he is a faggot, he would quit either way, so feel free to look down upon him for the rest of your life.
15x Monsters1x Blue-Eyes Toon Dragon1x Toon Ancient Gear Golem3x Grinder Golem3x Lava Golem1x Toon Dark Magician Girl1x Toon Gemini Elf2x Toon Masked Sorcerer3x Effect Veiler18x Spells3x Toon Kingdom2x Terraforming3x Toon Table of Contents2x Shadow Toon1x Hidden Armory1x Trade-In3x Wonder Wand3x Comic Hand7x Traps3x Magic Cylinder3x Toon Mask1x Toon Briefcase15x Extra1x Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon1x Number 101: Silent Honor ARK1x Evilswarm Excition Knight1x Number 66: Master Key Beetle1x Gagaga Cowboy1x Maestroke the Symphony Djinn1x Number 50: Blackship of Corn1x Steelswarm Roach1x Number 39: Utopia1x Cairngorgon, Antiluminescent Knight1x Number S39: Utopia the Lightning1x Divine Dragon Knight Felgrand1x Ally of Justice Catastor1x Arcanite Magician1x Ancient Sacred WyvernTom-no kachidesu~~~

Well, the idea to throw in the Golems popped into my head when I read the effects of Shadow Toon and Toon Mask. Then, I read Comic Hand, laughed my head off, and decided this was a must-try concept.I’m not an expert on the current meta, but given how major Xyz monsters are nowadays, I felt that Toon Mask, despite its powerful and synergetic effect, could perhaps not display its true potential in the current metagame. And apart from that, I’ve always been a big fan of Lava Golem. This truly does work, and when it works, it’s fun.The deck revolves around getting out/mind-controlling gigantic 3000 beatsticks, burning and punching and kicking and chopping, and then proceeding to realize that your opponent’s life points have somehow already hit zero. The synergy between the Golems and the new Toons are absolutely hilarious, and the Wonder Wand draw system increases the concept's consistency.Tips, notes, and advice:On the note of many cards being ran at 1Obviously meant to increase the possibilities of Toon Table of Contents. However, do keep in mind that at times the face-down Banishing costs of Toon Kingdom can result in unfortunate disasters. You can’t check what was Banished, so at times Toon Mask could fail to summon forth that random Toon Gear Golem or BEWD.Grinder GolemBest to use the worthless Tokens as costs for Toon Blue-Eyes and Magician Girl. Don’t forget that Magician Girl can attack the turn it is summoned, unlike most other toons – which is what makes it a nice card. Also don’t forget that the aforementioned two monsters are Special Summoned, not Normal Summoned, and can be summoned on the turn you used Grinder or Lava Golem.Toon Dark Magician GirlConsidering running it at 2, in case it's Banished by Toon Kingdom and becomes unsearchable. As already mentioned in the above paragraph, it can attack quicker compared to the other Toons, and apart from that, it can in theory OTK with Grinder + Shadow + Comic Hand.Whether or not to run it at 2, you choose - just, one thing for sure, 3 would be definitely too much.Toon Masked SorcererThe draw effect is quite powerful and comes in handy, especially in a Beat-Burn deck such as this one. If you’re Normal Summoning it, do so in Attack Position at all times (unless your LP is very low), as Toon Kingdom will protect it from battle destruction anyways, and you wouldn’t like it when you realize the “no-attack-summoned-turn” clause is also applied to Flip Summons.Effect VeilerWins games. Or, to be more exact, prevents you from losing miserably. Be careful when to use it, and watch out for the must-counters, because without Toon Kingdom this deck instantly becomes a worthless bundle of toilet paper. You can also use it on Kristya and that sort so that Toon Mask can start working again.Don’t forget that this can be used as Synchro Fodder for Catastor, Arcanite or Sacred Wyvern, should it be absolutely necessary (though I doubt this will ever happen). Also be aware that it’s a Spellcaster, and that it can be Wonder Wand’ed into a Pot of Greed as a last resort. I mean, really last resort.Shadow ToonI haven’t testplayed it at 3, but my instincts as a duelist (no, kidding, it’s just my random intuition) are telling me that it would clog at that number. You can search it via Contents if you like anyways, and I feel this is best at 2. Be aware of the “only-once-per-turn” clause, which is also what makes this a balanced and well-designed card.Hidden ArmoryKonami has apparently finally learned to not make everything searchable. They realized that if Comic Hand was a Toon Card it would have been broken beyond belief, and so the only real way to search it out is this old, but still nice, tech card. In theory it can also search Wonder Wand, but I doubt that will be often done, since Comic Hand is (most of the time) the card you wanna draw with Wand anyways. The “no-NS-this-turn” clause is not much of a problem, since the Lava and Grinder Golems, as well as the Toon BEWD and Magician Girl, are SS-ed.Trade-InWith 8 Level 8 monsters in the deck, it seems on first glance that this would be nice at 2. I however think otherwise, given how Lava and Grinder Golem are each necessary for the badass combos to start moving and winning games. Feel free to discard that Toon BEWD or Gear Golem, but apart from that, think twice before usage. A good example of when you should use this on those is when your opening hand features double Lava Golem or double Grinder Golem.Wonder WandOne thing: be careful of the timing when to use its Draw Effect. Apart from the obvious “use it after you’ve attacked with the monster” advice, keep in mind that as long as there is Toon Kingdom, your monsters are immune to dying – if the opponent’s deck seems to be slow, waiting for a turn or two until you alchemize that Masked Sorcerer into Pot of Greed is a bit risky, yet at times quite effective strategy. Also, unless under special circumstances, you should equip this in the MP1, attack with +500 damage, and then use its Pot of Greed effect in the MP2. Some people not used to this card take time to realize it can be used in such a way.Toon BriefcaseRead the effect carefully. Its activation conditions are NOT a face-up Toon World, but a face-up Toon Monster. Also, its effect can be anti-synergetic with Lava Golem. It certainly has a powerful effect, but not without its drawbacks, and especially in a Burn-heavy variant such as this one, 1, or perhaps even 0, is the correct number to run it in.
So, thoughts, comments, suggestions, reports of test-playing, love letters, criminal warnings, anything? Astolfo
Nice to see you again here Darkplant. What would you say are the weaknesses of/bad matchups for this deck? Also will try testing.
DARKPLANT RISING
I don't know to be honest, because I don't even know what's strong in the current meta. The deck overall lacks defense, so it's probably weak against OTK-oriented decks, though. It works good against the more "slow and steady" decks, I mean the decks which try to maintain 1~2 strong monsters and try and gain advantage long enough to win.The problem is that too much Waboku/Threatening Roar/whatever could result in less consistency. Astolfo
Nekroz (Ritual spam, Djinn Lock, Handtraps, etc) Shaddolls (floater effects upon being sent to Grave, Fusion spam, recyclable spells, etc) Lightsworns (got stupidly broken new support, mill deck for broken Xyz + JD spam, etc) MaskeDAD (Masked HEROs + DAD) HEROs (HEROs + Masked HEROs + Dark Law (which can be gotten with Shadow Mist easily) + Cyber Dragon Infinity (which can be gotten with Cyber Dragon Nova being overlaid with this, and get CDN with Ptolemaios) Qlis /somewhat/ (Pendulum spam, use things like Skill Drain and beat down) Tellars (Summon Spam, Xyz Spam, lots of effects and Xyz benefits) I think those are generally what people would consider as strong and/or meta in this format. Toffee.
A burn deck that isn't Reficule related nor is it Set-5-pass. Amazing.

Slightly abridged for him, because lightsworn and MaskeDAD are casual. In TCG, Nekroz has the supreme advantage, though there is also Burning Abyss, a deck centered around effects that activate in grave, and rank three xyz/level 6 synchro, squeezing advantage out of all situations. The mentioned HERO deck is only viable in OCG, due to Infinity being an exclusive there. If you have any further questions, feel free to send me a PM.
