Dad
It feels like a complex compass, but it's not pointing in a direction. It's giving a direction, but not like north, south, east, or west. I feel like this is a kind of. .life compass. Why I feel so deep about it, I don't fucking know. But I like this a lot.
(GigaDrillBreaker)
Fucking beautiful. I really don't know graphics, but this is my favorite thing I have seen on this site.

It's much simpler than any of my inspiration but Terese Nielsen does a lot of beautiful work with circles and geometry in the golden ratio and things like that. Also looked at planetary orbits and Uranometria which is basically a huge 1600s-era star atlas, which has a similar directional vibe. Fucking beautiful. I meant to make this exactly wallpaper-sized but it slipped my mind. If you want to make it fit better, I might make a version with a bit of the top chopped off later. Catman25
rai and his fibonacci spirals I really like these textures. Even the gradients seem to be slightly grainy, which is legit. I can't decide if your bordered polygons are cohesive with all the spirals and smooth curves, but they do look nice stand alone.

I can definitely see an argument against the polygons. It was actually way more hectic at the start. Greek architecture and shit in there.
chairman ali
I don't know man... the layout is not working. And that spiral disappearing then reappearing on the left side is creating a weird tangent. I had to spend a few minutes looking at it to try and figure out why something about it is bothering me. It's the bottom shapes. When you placed one at the top and one at the bottom you pretty much indicated borders. And one you set those borders you need to think about alignment and placements. I guess this is where Graphic Design fundamentals become extremely useful. At the moment it feels like there is too much of a gap at the top. There is a huge empty space at the top and a crowded area at the bottom. You could fix it by removing the bottom design border. You could TRY (not sure if it will work) to add more of the design at the top following the nearest spiral. Your spiral itself could create a border between the outside area and inner area and then you could play around with the colours of the shape design. Give it a transition or whatever your heart desires. I would also love to see how different it would look if you filled this area with gold leaf textures (assuming thats what you used) instead of the small gap. But looking at it now, it will still create a hideous cutoff/tangent. I'd play around with the canvas size too, man. Sometimes the secret of an artwork working is simply the canvas dimensions. .Rai
Started off with an A5 pencil sketch, so that's where the canvas size came from. Thanks so much for the detailed feedback though, means a lot. It does look quite unbalanced in retrospect. I didn't want to compose it dead-centre, but the bottom polygons definitely crowd it up. I'm going to try an alternate version without the bottom design and trying gold leaf in that space (it's basically gold leaf textures overlaid with chopped up Klimt paintings). The tangent-y line is a bit awkward. I might try filling bits of that in gold too as an experiment. Cheers again though!
Ire
Could've been very nice, but the texture used into the polygons is a bit LQ compared to the the remainder of the piece, the top part feels a bit empty and the polygons at the top and the bottom of this don't fit (especially the top one). I think that, only by cropping the top, it would be better.
.Rai
HQ gold textures are fairly difficult to find. I think they're just about good enough in this piece for it not to matter too bad.Adding a V2 with the bottom polygons removed and a big sector made gold, by Ali's advice. Leafed a small bit as well to make the crossing lines look a bit less awkward.
chairman ali
New version is definitely better. I found a few gold leaf textures on dA a few months back. Try there. If you want to add creases to them then just find old paper textures and apply it on multiply/darken/soft light/overlay.
