Trick Mirror [anime]

So it at worst negates any Trap Card, though something tells me IRL it'd get some sort of ruling making it more situational, like only being able to be used if the Trap Card's effect had the correct timing for you to also activate it, which would rule out cards like D Prison, Mirror Force, Threatening Roar, etc, but would still be fair game with Karma Cut, Raigeki Break, and if those cards do have a cost, then you actually enjoy only copying the effect.

It doesn't negate anything. All it does is make the effect of the card the effect or Trick Mirror instead.

It doesn't specifically "negate", but the way it is worded it kind of sounds like you are activating its effect INSTEAD of your opponent activating that effect.

Otherwise the "instead" shouldn't be there, IMO.

But this card doesn't have an effect to replace it with. It activates the effect under the name Trick Mirror instead of the card previously activated.

For example, if Raigeki was a Trap, this would reverse the destruction to opponent's cards. Wording might not quite work, but that is certainly the intent.

This card either treats a Trap card as activating from Trick Mirror's chain link, or activates it as YOUR effect. I have no idea which one.

It's a very, very bizarre, almost illogical plot device card that requires the context of the anime (and then several minutes of consideration) to understand how it even works.

It was the Team Ragnarok battle. Harald activated the effect of Eye of Odin (which negates the effects of the Polar Gods in exchange for seeing a Set card OR the opponent's hand). Harald then wanted to use the anime effect of Tyr of the Nordic Champions, which Tributes itself to NOT negate the Polar Gods.

Because Harald chained to his own card (Eye of Odin prevents the opponent from chaining cards to it), Yusei could now use this to use Eye of Odin's effect, negating the Polar Gods' effects because it resolved before Tyr did. Because the Polar Gods were negated, Yusei would later use Zero Force to drop them to 0, as Odin could no longer make them immune to S/Ts, and then they got banished due to Gjallarhorn, inflicting 0 damage because their ATKs were 0.

Like, this is actually one of the dumber plot device cards simply because it's so confusing how it even functions, and the situation where it helped was so ridiculously convoluted already. And yet I still find the "idiocy" Harald displayed as less infuriating than Team Unicorn, if only because Harald had already showed that he exhausts all options and doesn't just wait passively for games to end.
