(after expansion end game skills)

The first expansion for FF14 is coming in less than a month. With the expansion comes a level cap increase and all existing content has its exp drop amount doubled. Even though it is sub based I really recommend this game.
It is PvE-based with a few PvP things (dead atm, but expansion is hopefully resurrecting it). Raids (casual and hardcore), Dungeons, Open World, World Bosses, Triple Triad card game, Chocobo Racing & Breeding, crafting and gathering, all classes/jobs can be played on one character, and all consoles play on the same servers (PS3, PS4 and PC).

Also, to me, a big plus is how the community is nicer than any other game I've seen.

Cons: Sub based, RMT spam, some bad eggs, some quests are rng grinds upon release then soften up after a few patches.

I'm thinking of getting this for my PS3 , i saw the base game being played by a streamer and it looked stunning and very fun, and it would be my first MMORPG! If i play this i'm gonna be the Astrologian, and maybe we could all go and do raids and stuff together...

EDIT: Apparently the Heavensward expansion isn't available for PS3...... -_- i guess i won't play this one.

I have this on PS4, mainly a placeholder until I can actually get a computer but it runs pretty well on console and is actually pretty decent control-wise.

Highest class is level 22 so I'm only just starting out, but I can't wait to get into this game fully. I WANT A DAMN MOUNT ;A;

What server you play on? :o

Also, you can get the chocobo starting mount. It is a quest near the Gridania teleport, just look for the chocobo stable on the side of the adventurer's guild.

Yeah, it is one of the 2 most used Aus servers. I'm NA so I'm on Famfrit.

Oh, yeah, you need 2000 seals for the starter mount.
"To obtain your chocobo mount, you must be level 20 or higher and progressed through the main story enough that you have joined a Grand Company. To unlock the mount, you need to complete the quest My Little Chocobo. In the quest, you need to purchase a Chocobo Issuance from your Grand Company Quartermaster for 2000 Company Seals. "

Yeah I thought so. I really need to join a Free Company too. Do you get bonuses for being in one? (because I know you do in Guild Wars 2 and WoW)

Okay cool, so I have been doing the right thing. I have ~1700 seals right now, so that's good. God damn Grand Company Levequests, so repetitive ;-;

What class/job are you? I'm an arcanist working on becoming a Summoner.

Anyway, I bought the game and played for a month before DFO came out. I play it on my PS3 as well. One thing I really like is how politely they treat tanks and dont blame them for party wipes. Usually they blame clerics for switching to attack or DPSers for not knowing how to space out their aggro. Its welcoming... considering I'm a tank player in MMO's by heart.

An active free company will have guild buffs up, usually a exp bonus and something else.

I main black mage, but also go scholar if heals are needed. Probably going Astrologian next week.

Yeah, I've seen the healers being blamed most of the time. And DPS for aggroing unintentionally. Unlike WoW when that happens and the DPS blames tanks for not pulling mobs.

Alrighty sweet, next time I get an invite from an active one I'll join.

Oh cool, I actually really want to play a black mage. But summoner's first for me. Astrologian's the new healer right?

just now remembering this game is a thing. I've been wanting to get into an MMORPG for a while now, and this seems like the best one to start with (it would have been PSO2, but sega doesn't want american money).

so what's the gameplay like? is there any steep learning curve? and is the community strong? Apparently they're polite if your accounts are anything to go by, and that's a heavy plus in it's favor, but i mean as far as series longevity, does the game seem like it'll be able to support years of stable expansion? I don't want to get into it and then find out its as badly mapped out as the destiny expansion packs.

If there is any mmo worth getting, I'd say it is this one. It is much more story centered than any other mmo I've played. The learning curve for FF14 is beginner friendly, allowing people to play every job if they want. In my entire time playing, the only thing I've seen people get actually upset by is going into a dungeon and not saying if you're new. Otherwise, people are very willing to explain and help out. However, there is always going to be some bad apples.

In my almost 2 years playing I have yet to ever not have something I could be doing. Content patches come out more frequently then Destiny.

Generally good stuff. DIdn't get time to finish the relic, guess I'll wait till expansion nerfs it.

Been subbed for a year, preordered the expansion looking forward to it. Fun game when you have uncleared content, but once you have cleared it, and if you're not into crafting, the ride is over. Plenty of times over the last couple of months I've found myself in my room logging in, doing dailies, logging out, and it gets old quickly. I was going to try coils, but eventually I stopped logging in almost completely when Witcher 3 came out.

Expansion will change this, and open-world will be alot more challenging, or so I've heard, which is good.

That settles it then, this'll be my first jump into the MMORPG world. thanks.
