[MtG] Modern Masters 2015 Full Spoiler

No Serum Visions? I'm a bit surprised, honestly. Some other noticeable omissions, too - Azusa, Scapeshift, Summer Bloom, Goblin Guide, Aven Mindcensor, Gitaxian Probe, Inquisition of Kozilek, Threads of Disloyalty, Damnation (goddamnit!).

Love the new art on Pillory of the Sleepless, though. And Expedition Map being reprinted was nice: it's a $2.50 common that goes in almost any EDH deck.

Still, I'm disappointed. The stuff that wasn't revealed earlier turned out to be a bunch of jank, a lot more so than MMA.

If I were to guess, the stuff from Amulet Bloom didn't make it because the deck only recently started putting up results.

More or less this. I was expecting a bit more.

Jesus, this set has more filler than DBZ. No serum visions, no inquisition, no mind censor.

How can anyone justify playing 10$ a pack for this set?

Fucking inexorable tide at rare? That shit is unplayable in any format.

I might just cancel my preorder. Da fuq wizards

I've been trying some sealed pools with a sealed generator, affinity feels like the strongest archtype since most of the chase rares in this set have no synergy with other cards and the colorless cards are actually pretty goodThere's tons of good, cheap, easily splashable removal at common and uncommon. Black feels really weak unless you get a bitterblossom or some dismembers, green kind of sucks since there's little support for ramp or mid range strategies. Red, white and blue feel pretty even since they have tons of good cards at common and uncommon.

So, has anyone gotten around to drafting the set? I got one in today for a really good price ($35) and had a sweet GB deck (I'll post the list if someone asks). Pretty tiled that I keep thinking Apostle's Blessing cost just P and not 1P and that mistake wasn't caught until after it won me a game, but after that I woke up and started playing like I knew what the cards did. Ended up winning the event and gave up a pack to the guy I made the mistake against. In total went home with a Vendilion Clique and a Leyland of Sanctity so I'm happy.

And after talking about it with my friends, yea, the set is just poorly conceived. Like, they want a product that helps gets more copies of chase rares into print. At the same time they also want the set to be a really fun limited experience and both of these desires work against each other. To have the sweet limit experience they need to put in a bunch of bulk rares to help support archetypes and make the limited fun, but because the set is full of so much filler it isn't worth it to buy since most packs will have blanks but since it still has chase cards it gets priced up and keeps people from getting to play a ton of limited with it.

I'm waiting to draft within the next couple days and meanwhile I see people pulling things like Tarmo + foil Spellskite.

Those people sound very lucky. Though in the group of 4 that went to draft today 3 of us opened mythics that aren't Comet Storm (seriously, why is with that being mythic?) and the 4th member opened Daybreak Cornet and Hurkyl's Recall so we ran pretty hot all things considered.

I'm not drafting it for two (well, three) reasons:

1) Prices per booster way exceed expected value. There's also the fact that so much of the overall EV is tied up in a few choice rares and mythics, so if you're unlucky (or stastically average) and get hit with bulk rares you just wasted money. There's also the fact that almost all of the commons and uncommons are junk, so you can't even hope to get your value back from that.

2) The set's incredibly poor quality, card-wise. There've been a ton of complaints of cards coming out misprinted or even flat-out folded over.

3) I'm still in Hong Kong and am not paying HK prices for an already-expensive draft.

1) Thats what I was talking about before. The price point makes the average player super unlikely to play a lot of the limited and the limited makes the price point stupid since outside of mythics and a handful of rares the packs are just air. As I said, between the 12 packs my group opened in draft, the fact that we pulled Clique, Norn, Emerakul, Daybreak Cornet, and Hurkyl's Recall was just super lucky.

2) I know the guy I gave a pack too said his prize pack was missing the foil. So yea, its kind of scary if the issue is this common.

3) Yea, that makes things way worse.

A guy at my lgs pulled a foil goyf, the edges were battered pretty badly. Not only are they using the printer to print supplementary products instead of normal boosters, the new packaging is damaging the cards.

The packs are expensive in Canada, I'm in Toronto for the weekend and I haven't found a pack for sale that was less than 15$, with a fairly low EV compared to the cost it's just not worth drafting the set. 45$+ is a huge price for a single draft.

Overall I'm not too impressed by this, Wizards is trying to sell a premium product while keeping the manufacturing as cheap as possible and it is causing issues. I haven't opened my box yet but I might just hide it in the closet and forget about it for a few years then sell it, seems like a better plan than opening damaged cards.

Seriously? Wow, thats pretty terrible. My friend was considering the box since its not that hard to break even at least, but if the cards are going to be in crap shape that seems like a bad idea. At least I'm happy I was crazy for thinking the edges seemed a little worn for some of the cards I got during the draft.

$45 is past what I'm willing to spend. As I said, I got lucky that a place not that far a drive from me was doing them for $35 and I'm willing to go up to $40 (price of a local store). Another local one is doing them for $50, but I think the prize payout of 5, 3, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1 helps balance it.

That seems like a good idea. Set should increase in value, and an unopened box should go for a decent amount in a year or two.

I bought one pack just because I had some spare cash and all my cards were miscut. At least I can get my cliques pretty cheaply now. I'll buy damaged cards if they're cheap enough.

I guess thats a slight upside. More cheap value cards will enter the market.

Also, didn't notice it in your first post, but yea, them using the supplementary product printers was obvious. The texture of the cards themselves just feels different.

Also, since we're talking about it

short survey about the new packaging.

So I caved and bought a box from my lgs since they were selling at msrp. I made about 350+ in value as a conservative estimate. My mythics were a goyf, Bob and comet storm (you can't win them all). Then I bought a few packs on the side and pulled a karn and another goyf. I think my card pulling luck has ran out for the year.

I had no manufacturing defects but some of the foils had faded ink. My other box I'm just going to store away for a few years.

Reports of boxes having foils of literally the same card throughout the box are coming in.

Awkward.

Maybe the dude who had a missing foil in his pack had his grabbed to be put into this mess. Seriously though, this is a MASSIVE train wreak of a set release. Not good for Wizards. They are GOING to need to release more of a comment.

Wizards outsources their printers to third party factories. One company does the normal booster boxes while another does the supplemental products, or so I've heard. The company doing the supplemental products needs an audit on their quality control
