.Rai
Welcome to YCM Pokémon Battle League, part Pokémon tournament, part sports league, one-hundred percent fierce hilarity. This is largely based on the GBA format, so more information and indeed past GBA tournaments can be found at their Youtube channel.Preface & Introduction to DraftingThe premise is simple. Much like American football, your team is much larger than merely those just on the field. You choose a roster of 11 Pokémon and, although you will only be using 6 at a time, you can switch in and out of your primary 6 any time between rounds. Between rounds, you can even switch the movesets, items, abilities and EV spreads of your Pokémon at will if wished. What's the catch, I hear you cry? You will be drafting your roster. In turn, each participant will choose a Pokémon to fill their eleven Pokémon, and we will cycle until everyone has filled their rosters out. Once a Pokémon has been drafted, it cannot be drafted by another player. Alternate formes count as separate Pokémon however. So you might see the Therian and Incarnate forme of Landorus in the tournament, but not on the same team due to the Species Clause. Similarly, the Mega and non-Mega versions of a Pokémon count as separate Pokémon. As a heads-up, versatile Pokémon with plenty of playsets tend to fare well: unpredictability will do you good in this format. Anyway, the drafting will work in a particular way so that nobody is left in the dust though. Your roster is subject to a points system, and then additional roster restrictions.Drafting Your Roster
To help ensure this balance, you must have Pokémon representative from each tier, and your roster must contain exactly one Mega Pokémon on top of this. Hence, the tiers are as follows: OU-A | OU-B | BL | UU | RU | NU This means that 7 of your slots have a tier restriction. For instance, if your Mega Pokémon is in OU-A, it does not count towards your OU-A slot, only your Mega slot. Your other 4 slots are free from this restriction, provided it stays within your point limit (see Roster Points System). Note that you do not have to draft your roster in this order; these are merely restrictions to follow throughout the entirety of the draft.Hence, this will be the framework of your roster: Mega Pokémon OU-A Pokémon OU-B Pokémon BL Pokémon UU Pokémon RU Pokémon NU Pokémon Any Pokémon Any Pokémon Any Pokémon Any Pokémon You can check what tier a Pokémon is in this handy infographic. These tiers are similar to the Smogon tiers, with a few notable differences (particularly in the split of OU into two new tiers, and that no Megas exist below BL). If your Pokémon is not listed here, it is either banned, or in NU (you'll probably know which). Of course, you can use any non-banned Pokémon that aren't listed in the infographic. Editorial Note: Ninetales and Wobbuffet are in BL, as Drought and Shadow Tag are valid abilities on each of them respectively in this format.

You start with 1180 points. Each Pokémon you draft costs a certain number of points, depending on its tier. You cannot go over the point limit, but you can stay under. You will not have enough points to draft a full set of top-tier Pokémon, so you will have to budget and balance intelligently.Pokémon Tier Point Costs: OU-A: 180 OU-B: 140 BL: 100 UU: 80 RU: 60 NU: 40 Due to having the tier restrictions in place, you will already have 600 points locked up in the 6 tiers, followed by 140-180 points by your Mega, leaving you with between 400-480 points for your 4 free slots. Obviously, the more efficiently you use your points, the better.
Mega Charizard X (OU-A) [180 Points] Starmie (OU-A) [180 Points] Zapdos (OU-A) [180 Points] Togekiss (OU-B) [140 Points] Venomoth (BL) [100 Points] Blissey (UU) [80 Points] Lucario (UU) [80 Points] Vaporeon (UU) [80 Points] Aggron (RU) [60 Points] Whimsicott (RU) [60 Points] Dusknoir (NU) [40 Points] Total: 1180/1180 Points Used

Mega Beedrill (OU-B) [140 Points] Clefable (OU-A) [180 Points] Skarmory (OU-A) [180 Points] Gothitelle (OU-B) [140 Points] Feraligatr (BL) [100 Points] Chandelure (UU) [80 Points] Jolteon (UU) [80 Points] Sableye (UU) [80 Points] Rhyperior (RU) [60 Points] Claydol (NU) [40 Points] Weezing (NU) [40 Points] Total: 1120/1180 Points Used (60 Unused)

The following are banned: Banned Pokémon: All Pokémon banned in the Smogon Ubers tier. (Note: Blaziken is draftable provided it only uses its ability, Blaze.) Banned Items: Gengarite Kangaskhanite Lucarionite Mawilite Salamenceite Soul Dew Battle Clauses: All clauses in effect in the Smogon OU tier.
Tournament Format I plan for this to be a relatively relaxing, but longterm, tournament. More of an association rather than a one-time tournament. This way, the effort spent in drafting a team isn't rushed through and the whole thing's over in a half month. Instead, you will battling once a week (more or less, depending on request), for several weeks. The more competitors we have, the larger scale this tournament is. I'm open to suggestion, and depending on how short-term or long-term people want this tournament to be, the format can be altered. Likelihood is that drafts won't happen for a little while, especially so everyone can pre-plan or get a gist of their drafting strategy first. At the moment, there will be a divisions stage, and a playoffs where the top nth from the divisions play single elimination. Both draft order and division you are placed into are decided randomly. This is a 6v6 Singles tournament. The entire tournament will be held via Pokémon Showdown. You must use every Pokémon at least once at some point in the tournament.ParticipantsSign up with your YCM username, and Pokémon Showdown username. .Rai
Right, 11 is a good number. So, entries are closed now. Drafting will begin shortly, it will done via PM. In the meantime, have a think about your strategy for drafting. Have backup plans if the picks you want get nabbed by other people.Lord CowCow has suggested a new rule which might be necessary: In the time of the tournament, you must use every Pokémon at least once. Keep that in mind. You will battle at least 5 times, and almost certainly plenty more than 5.Edit: Heads-up! Here's the draft order:1. Azure Wolf2. Lord CowCow3. .Rai4. Tentacruel5. The Progenitor6. Hydreigon™7. ihop8. Flame Dragon9. Pacmanexus10. Catman2511. UnendingEmpireRemember that order reverses every round of drafting, so UnendingEmpire and Azure Wolf both get two picks in a row several times in the draft. Progenitor
Wouldn't it make more sense for the draftings to be open once the order is decided? It would suck if you are last and every slot you try to fill has already been taken while you had no knowledge of it and have to re-think your strat on the spot. Plus it also adds a balance to going first. If you go first you can have anything you like, but everyone else can draft according to your strategy if they feel so inclined. Granted I doubt we will have such mindgames. I was mainly just saying this for the first point.
.Rai
I realised that about a minute ago, draft order's up. I'll put it in the opening post as well.I fully encourage mindgames. Specific Pokémon counters are totally fine, if you feel that that's necessary. While higher tier picks are better as versatile Pokémon, spending lower tier picks as specific counters is pretty clever.

ihop
Before we come to it, can put Ninetales and Wobbuffet in BL? They're only NU since their main ability is banned by UU and since we're using OU clauses they will be legal and anyone drafting Tales and Wobbuffet will have an advantage. .Rai
Yep, sure. So, Drought Ninetales and Shadow Tag Wobbuffet are now in BL. I'll relay that information into the opening post and my opening two posts of the PM. I assume nobody's going to actively draft Drought Ninetales or Telepathy Wobbuffet, so unless that comes up, I won't bother keeping their bad versions in NU as well, as "alternate formes" as it were.
