[CFV] Tier List & Metagame Discussion (Post-G-BT02)

Recommended Posts

I decided to post a tier list here containing as much Vanguard decks as possible. While a tier list is ideal for competitive players, I decide to concentrate on beginner or advanced players in this list instead so they have a clue about the strenght of a specific deck. For that reason, I will post not one, but two sections about the metagame: one will contain a tier list, while the other one will talk about specific decks' pros and cons, and the variants exists of a specific archetype.

Keep it in mind that in most cases it is either speculation or my own opinion. This topic is for discussion, so feel free to suggest ideas if you see a specific deck missed on the list, or if you don't agree with one statement!

As soon as we have the full spoiler list of Fighter's Collection 2015, I will update it to be recent.

maelstrom aqf is better than thavas

I was still unsure of Maelstrom actually. While there is indeed the trigger+Maelstrom combo, I feel like it would be more consistent as soon as it gets its Stride. In that case, I will move it to God Tier and we will see if Thavas+Lambros will go back to Top Tier.

Tournament results show that these predictions aren't really very good and aren't overly informed. Going by the way that tournaments tend to go, something like this would be more accurate:

Top
Maelstrom
Thing Saver (Alto + JK Hybrid)

Slightly below top
DOTX
Chat/Tester
Sweep Command
Musketeer
Oracles (CoCo + Tsuku)
Revengers

And imo that's the only thing that really matters. Everything else below that is on an even playing field since they either a) Did not get enough support or b) Have yet to receive their good support. Fighter's Collection predictions are a little bit too soon to be made because we don't know everything, but I'm going to forewarn everyone now that Revengers are going to be moving up into the unarguable top deck category because of The DARK.

As I said, this topic is not only about the top tier discussion. While it is also important to have a perspective about the competitive play, this topic was also done to show the differences between good and bad decks to beginner players. The second post that I'm still writing will do something like this, but in a more detailed way. (That's why there is mid to trash tier decks also listed.)

Also: I'm moving Maelstrom to God Tier, and Lambros + Thavas back to Top Tier.

If that's the case, then a LOT of the "top tier" decks need to forced down into mid.

Regalia(Genesis) - MID
Bluish Flame Liberators (Gold Paladin)
Susanoo (Oracle Think Tank)
Altmile (Royal Paladin)
Jewel Knight (Royal Paladin) - TOP
Seeker [w/o Thing Saver Dragon] (Royal Paladin) - MID
Revenger "Abyss" (Shadow Paladin)
Witch (Shadow Paladin) - LOW

Dragonic Overlord The "X" (Kagero)
Perdition(Kagero)
Brawler (Narukami) - MID
Sweep Command (Narukami) - REQUIRED.

Big Berry + Managarmr (Great Nature) - LOW
Chatnoir + Tester (Great Nature) - REQUIRED
Musketeer (Neo Nectar)

Ruin Disposal + Nixie Number [Full Legion] (Gear Chronicle) - LOW
Silver Thorn (Pale Moon)
Bloody Bad End [Break Ride + Ogle] (Spike Brothers)

Thavas + Lambros (Aqua Force)
Duo [w/ Meer] (Bermuda Triangle) - MID
Nightmist + Nightsnow (Granblue) - MID

Exxtreme Battler (Nova Grappler)
Raizer (Nova Grappler) - REQUIRED
Cosmic Hero (Dimension Police)
Dimensional Robo (Dimension Police) - MID
Metalborg (Dimension Police) - MID
Glendios (Link Joker) - MID

Regalia (Genesis) - MID
Bluish Flame Liberators (Gold Paladin)
Susanoo (Oracle Think Tank)
Altmile (Royal Paladin)
Jewel Knight (Royal Paladin) - TOP
Seeker [w/o Thing Saver Dragon] (Royal Paladin) - MID
Revenger "Abyss" (Shadow Paladin)
Witch (Shadow Paladin) - LOW

Dragonic Overlord The "X" (Kagero)
Perdition(Kagero)
Brawler (Narukami) - MID
Sweep Command (Narukami) - REQUIRED.

Big Berry + Managarmr (Great Nature) - LOW
Musketeer (Neo Nectar)

Ruin Disposal + Nixie Number [Full Legion] (Gear Chronicle) - LOW
Silver Thorn (Pale Moon)
Bloody Bad End [Break Ride + Ogle] (Spike Brothers)

Thavas + Lambros (Aqua Force)
Duo [w/ Meer] (Bermuda Triangle) - MID
Nightmist + Nightsnow (Granblue) - MID

Exxtreme Battler (Nova Grappler)
Cosmic Hero (Dimension Police)
Dimensional Robo (Dimension Police) - MID
Metalborg (Dimension Police) - MID
Glendios (Link Joker) - MID

Regalia - Even with Yggdrasil? I still feel like that it deserves the spot being a Top Tier deck, as the pressure it can create is something noticeable.
Jewel Knight - Already in the top, while Thing Saver variants (each of them) are in God Tier
Seeker - Hmm, maybe I'll move it to Mid
Witch - I'm pretty sure this deck is not low. Mid maybe, especially since it has some bad match-ups like Revengers, but it can actually screw up some of the Top Tier decks easily
I'll add Sweep Command.
Dim. Robo also contains True Daikaiser and similar variants, which are obviously Top Tier, especially with recent stuff.
Duo is definitely NOT mid, even without stride, this deck is lethal and has some huge plays that can even screw up god tier decks with a minimal luck. The peace play is just ridiculous.
Glendios, I agree that it is MID until we get the stride.

For the others, I'll wait for more opinions.

EDIT: Did some modifications, moved some back forward or back, also added Sweep Command and Chatnoir to the list.

While you are using your personal opinion, I am using tournament results to dictate what I feel is where.

Regalia won something all of one time, but they suffer due to that effect getting generally weaker from how much advantage Stride generates decks now. When the FC strides comes out, it's an arguable top end stride again due to how much it'll be capable of doing but until then it just cannot keep up with good decks. And that's what this is about, no? The top decks should be able to compete with other top decks, so there's absolutely no point in putting those kinds of decks in the top if they can't compete.

Jewel Knight is meant to be put in God since JK/TSD is the strongest deck in the JCG right now. That's what I meant by "Top" since I don't like saying God Tier due to it being a silly phrase that implies there are decks stronger than the top ones.

Dimensional Robo are too gimmicky and get messed up too much by the fact that Laurel went to 1 in the JCG. Just not good enough any more, definitely a middle Mid Tier deck if anything.

Duo hasn't done anything in yonks due to how much faster everything is than it, making it a top end Mid Tier deck that might peek back into top when FC comes into play.

Keep it in mind that TCG and JCG are a bit different for two reasons. (I'm using TCG as a reference since this is the format where I'm playing)

The first is that there are a few cards that we doesn't have here, and while it is the lesser problem, the second thing is that the mentality and playstyle of people here is different. They use cards differently, have problems with different cards, prefer to use another combos, and so on.

While I'm talking about my experience (and opinion), I'm also using tournaments results from either local or global events around me.

Regalia: While I feel like this has some potential even with Stride, I will indeed move it to Mid Tier for one sole reason: it has only bad match-ups against the God Tier decks and it is an auto-loss against all of these decks.

Jewel Knight: For that I meant each variants without Thing Saver Dragon. While God Tier indeed sounds a bit silly, it doesn't mean that they cannot be beaten by any other deck. That's not the game where this statement is true. With a bit of luck, you can even beat a God Tier deck with your trash tier deck if your opponent's unlucky.

Laurel is at 4 in TCG, so yeah, they are indeed deserved to be in Top Tier.

Duo is an interesting phenomenon. While it has its own match-ups (Kagero and Narukami destroys the deck in a second), some of the God Tier and Top Tier decks can't even handle the bouncing of the deck. Meer is obviously the best breakride in the game and while it seems to be a bit slow, the hand advantage it can generate outclasses several drawing "engines" and archetypes, even Oracle Think Tank decks. But I'll leave this deck under the discussion.

If you're using ECG as an example, then Raizers need to be top tier without any kind of argument tbh.

Yeah, I was not sure about its quality since there are no any Raizer players in our local. But as I heard, the Cat Butler plays in Raizers are so incredible still today that it indeeds deserves to be included in the top.

I'll move it to the top in this case.

Thanks for the help.
