Oh yes, this guy again. Certainly one of the most annoying cards to run into in online play.

MaxxC-LC5D-EN-UR-1E.png

During either player's turn: You can send this card from your hand to the Graveyard; this turn, each time your opponent Special Summons a monster(s), immediately draw 1 card. You can only use 1 "Maxx "C"" per turn.

So apart from being almost constantly botched since his original printing in the TCG thanks to arbitrary ruling vs bad wording (basically, it should say "You can only use the effect of "Maxx "C"" once per turn", and as worded it implies you cannot do anything else with it the turn you use it, contrary to the OCG lore and the original printing), This guy is generally a format barometer. Whether somebody is maining, siding or not even using this guy, and in what quantities for the former 2, pretty much tells you how fast a format is.

So where does he stand this format.

Yosenju's will just laugh at this and keep on spamming. Most other decks will probably just stop ssing when it's dropped and make it pretty irrelevant.

That's kind of the point of the card though.

Maxx C is a strategic card. You drop it at a critical point when you can force your opponent into a dilemma. They either have to commit to OTKing you, or stop and buy you a turn. Rarely if ever will you drop this pre-emptively. And if you're siding it in against Yosenju you don't know what you're doing.

I didn't say you would side this against yosenju, i was just commenting on it's use; but you would probably have this sided for those decks it can be used against. I understand it's strategic value, but here's a question that springs to mind: are there other cards that do what it does, or something similar, but better? Vanity stuff seems to fill a similar niche, but instead of offering a dilemma to your opponent they just stop ssing. I kinda like that this offers a choice to your opponent; it's interesting.

Just to clarify though. If your opponent is about to Special Summon say 3 monsters to the field at once (wether it be by Pendulum or other means) do you get 1 card for each monster? Or just 1 card from the first monster? Has always confused me

It's a pretty standard side card this format which is excellent against B.A. and good in the Nekroz mirror since you'll never need to keep an empty hand as your field should be empty for each of your opponent's turns unless you can guarantee a win. I'd be inclined to main this in Nekroz since it's good against everything bar Yosenju and Volcanics (lol) and it does give you an edge in the Mirror as your opponent's almost forced to keep SSing once they summon one thing because they need to summon a Valk to empty their field.

Its always the first card I put into any side deck. Honestly its almost a natural process to me now, like its "eat, breathe, side 3 Maxx C". Its so good against so many things and so easily side decked in everything.
