New indie game that just came out. Currently playing it, and it's incredibly fun.

Essentially Metroid, gameplay and art-wise.

The catch? This was made by one person, and it took him 4 years to make.

Discuss.

I watched both the completionist's and Mike Matei's videos of this game and it does look really good and really interesting. The story is a bit weird, but in a good way. I'm also rather taken with the big multi-purpose weapon wielded by the main character, it's all you'll ever need in one BMFG. Maybe if you put a brief summary of the game or even a video of some game play you might get some more replies.

I finished it today. It's a very good game that I only had a few minor issues with.

- Fast Travel:

- What they got right: There is Fast Travel

- What they got wrong: The "fast travel" in this game is... okay, at best. I kinda just wished they would let you go from one pod to another. Considering how large the world is and how often it can be frustrating to move through specific corridors to get from point A to point B, I kind of wish I would have had the ability to just go from one side of the world to the other without needing to jump through a hoop and onto a giant floating head.

- Boss Difficulty:

What they got right: In several instances, the game played with the idea of boss fights towards the structure of the story. Also, if you kill a boss, even if you die at the same time, the boss will still be defeated when you re-enter the boss room, and that's really, really great.

What they got wrong: To be honest, if you knew what you were doing, the boss fights were all pretty easy, however... the difficulty progression of bosses throughout the game felt out of order at times. I mean the hardest boss in the game, who is REALLY hard, btw, if you don't figure out his kind of obscure weakness, wasn't even the last one... or the second to last one... or even technically the third to last one. Man, that fucking bee.

- Something else. I forgot.

Otherwise, this game is definitely inspired from Metroid, but only late in the game does it try to separate from it, but no necessarily in any meaningful way. The most significant difference is just the drone upgrade, specifically its later one, which changes how you approach traversing the world. Otherwise it's basically just a good metroid clone. Extremely fun to play. A lot of the guns feel really good. Even more feel useless, lol. Story was interesting for a long while but it ended up being kind of forgettable for me. I'll drive myself crazy if I try to fill out the weapons and map, but it might be just reason to go back to it for more.

Took me about 10 hours. I'd say it's well worth the price of admission, especially if you're a big metroid fan.

Yeah, I think it was the last time I played where I faced Uruku, the giant slug thing, and I could just stand in one spot and shoot those burst shots non-stop without being hit by any of its attacks.

Yeah Uruku in particular felt easy, considering how intimidating he is due to how big he is.

Sentinel could be considered hard, but not in a good way. His battle is basically a bullethell shooter and you're almost guaranteed to take a s*** ton of damage. It just comes down to if you can avoid his giant laser and if you manage to avoid a few of the smaller projectiles. Otherwise you're just spamming Lightning and praying it dies before you do.
