Opening: courage

Ending: All Alone With You
"These giant walls have enclosed my entire life, the entire scope of my vision. They are tall, secure, and we don't even post guards atop them. They will protect us, shield us, from the dangers of the outside. There is nothing of interest outside, Father would tell us. But ever since I was little, there were days which I would stare at the walls and wonder what lay hidden beyond its breadth.

'There is a paradise that exists out there somewhere,' the old beggar would say. But, Father doesn't let me associate with old beggars any more. Nevertheless, I wanted to listen to his fanciful stories. We would sit tight, shaking with suspense, as he began to stoke the flames of our imaginations. His words transformed to pictures, then to entire worlds. Names became people, and people became friends as we sat beside them on their adventures. However, we could never truly touch them, because we were safe inside our city.

Then, a plague fell upon the city and people dropped like flies. Some people wanted to flee the city, but Father would not let them. 'It is safe inside the city,' he said, and their fear of the unknown exceeded their fear of the plague. However, the old beggar with his one leg lame found us again. He was old enough to drop dead at any moment, but he gathered us to listen to him one last time.

'There is a paradise that exists out there somewhere,' the old beggar said. And he pulled out a book that belonged to his grandfather's grandfather. He had never shown us this before. It was the magical Encyclopedia that would contain all the information known in the world. Giving this to us, he said, 'There is a paradise that exists out there somewhere and it holds the answer to all your dreams.' He gave us a device we had never seen before -- a compass. 'This compass will always point you to paradise.' Then through the secret passage he ushered us. A secret passage only he knew, in and out of the walls. He gave us a week's rations he bought with the money he saved and ordered us to go, use all the knowledge of the stories he told.

'I do not know if I am sending you to your deaths, but I only know there is no future for you here. This plague will prove to be the end of us all. Go now before your Father discovers you.'

I asked him to come with us, but he shook his head. 'I am too old and I would only slow you down.' With that he broke into a cough and slammed the door to the secret passage shut. And now here we are, in the unknown we were all pining for, scared and alone."
This is a Limited Acceptance fantasy and adventure RP that takes place in the world of Elysium, an infinitely beautiful but dangerous land crawling with deadly fauna, flora and magical phenomena. Humans struggle to survive in this world and gather in mostly-isolated civilizations. Explorers don't tend to survive long enough to leave any legacy of their travels behind. You are a citizen who lived in the walled city of Sanctum, an isolated and self-sufficient city-state that contained its own massive agricultural fields within its giant walls. Despite living safely within the city walls, you cannot help but be at least a little curious of what lay in the world beyond them. You were part of a small group who would gather to hear the old beggar tell stories of the Wanderers, the term used for men and women who go out into the world to seek the mythical Paradise that exists somewhere out there in the east. Next thing you know, you have become one such Wanderer along with the others in the storyteller's group and your adventure begins now. The characters in this RP are supposed to be familiar with each other and have some history with each other.

The roleplay is currently under development and the lore and the details are subject to change. If you intend to join, come join me on Skype to discuss this RP.

"For the first time, I had a good look at that ancient, leather bound tome. Although it had no ornaments nor even a title on the front, it held our attention the same way that venerable old beggar had. The worn cover bespoke of ages of use, enlightening countless men. And yet, when we opened the book... the pages were empty. We were furious with shock and we were about to throw it away, but it was our token from the old man. A useless sentiment perhaps, but it saved our lives. It wasn't long before we discovered that the Encyclopedia began to write itself. It was whimsical and would suddenly sprout an article when it pleased or only if we asked it, but the wealth of knowledge it provided was of immeasurable worth and was key to our survival in this dangerous world."

~Maria

The Encyclopedia is a magical tome that basically works like a Pokedex and will update as we move along. When we come into sight of something, if we verbally ask the Encyclopedia a term, or once we come within proximity of a particularly important place, it will create an entry. For sake of ease and convenience, the Encyclopedia will be located inside a Google Doc.

Really?
And no one bothered to make any indicator here of what was going on until you abruptly closed things off?

Well, yes, I would close things off once I met my quota of participants.

So... The compass the old storyteller man gives you points east?

For now... But, this RP is no longer accepting if you are intending on joining. Sorry.

Any more posts in this thread by someone other than Nai, UE, Mugen or I will be treated as irrelevant, unless you intend to be a reader (in that case, glad to have you along).

"Aaah, after five decades I'm free! It's time to conquer...my fear of going outside, I guess."
Name: Annemarie Bellran Zenith

Self-imposed Title: The Not-so-Dead Wandering Wannabe Storyteller

Age: 22

Gender: Female

Race: Not so dead-human (right now a type of physical ghost or something to that extent)

Birthday: Third day of the seventh month

506e2fdb6f42b3cc1e783892542bdc24e9bbc862

164 cm tall. she didn't know about her weight since she's a ghost, and the clothes are something she stole because she could.

She looks like she is not the brightest bulb around, and overall, often showcases oddball tendencies, but this is mainly due to her being pretty bored and tries to make her unlife more exciting. While she often pranks others just for fun, she's otherwise a quite nice person to talk with. Childishly selfish at times, though not really by much. She also has some clumsy tendency, but it doesn't appear often enough to be something to define her as. She's actually quite bright, and often has ideas on things that go on around her, but she prefers to look less intelligent just because it'd be more fun that way.

When she's still "alive", she used to be quite shy and reserved, and was more or less content in spending her days on the city library, reading books about the mythical outside world. An encounter with a certain someone did make her want to be a wanderer and be more open as she is now, but she was too indecisive on the topic and thus, she missed the group. Currently has grown some sort of phobia of going outside of the library, but when she heard that the wanderer she met back then organized another exploration group, she decided to try getting out of that phobia. Also have a debilitating type of acrophobia, due to how she died.

Originally, she was simply a book-loving maiden that often hangs around in one of the local libraries, spending hours each day reading books there, while she was not tending the crops on daytime. For Annemarie, that monotonous life was all she could see going on for her, and she was content with it. At least, until she met a certain visionary young man who had the desire to get outside of the wall, and see the “paradise” that lie beyond it.

At first, Annemarie dismissed it as absurd, but the more the young man told her about what could be outside of the place, the more she was intrigued by it. He even led her to find more and more books that told her about what the outside world could be, and her desire to go there became stronger. The problem was, she’s still completely afraid of going out there, even with the young man’s motivation and her desire. She was being indecisive long enough to miss the group of Wanderers that the young man left with, and this quite saddened her.

But, she got over it one or two years later, and continued to live her dull life on and on…until tragedy struck. Long story short, she fell off from one of the local library’s new observation towers when she was being a bit careless, and died almost immediately. Much mourning was had, but after a while, everything returned to normal, sans the fact that odd things starting to happen on the library.

After fifty or so years of pranking people out of complete boredom and being stuck on the library due to her fear of going outside being amplified, Annemarie heard about how there’d be another group of Wanderers that would leave the city soon. This ignites her old desire back, and Annemarie, not looking forward to miss this one, forced herself out of her fears just to be able to go with the group. This time, she wanted to go on and travel as much as she could, so she could write books about and tell stories of her journey, to satisfy the curiosity of people across the world that was too afraid to leave their quarters, just as she was.

Or maybe, she had something else in mind when it comes to her motivation.
-Theme Song: Systematically Resurrected Woman

-She had no idea on how she was still alive as a ghost even after all these years.

-She had no idea whether she’s supposed to be a ghost or a zombie. She was still solid enough to be interactive unlike normal ghosts, but unlike zombies, her actual body has been buried and rotted.

-She can still eat even as a ghost and can still enjoy the food. Her favorite food is anything that has something to do with meat. Though, she's by no means a big eater.

-She can’t actually walk through walls like ghosts would, but she could do some neat dismemberment tricks. She’s effectively a ghost with a body, which makes her a…zombie. Maybe.

-Really weak to exorcism.

"Aaaap, guess I'm coming along. No good to let children out without supervision. Cough."

x393wz.jpg

Name: Jeremiah "Jimmy" Ciggs
Age: 31
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Birthday: twelfth day of the ninth month

x393wz.jpg
PSAt7XZ.jpg
Jimmy stands at a healthy 188 cm.
x393wz.jpg
Jimmy's attitude toward life is more or less comparable to drifting in the wind. He was raised to appreciate the small things in life and love everything he did; never really wanting anything, but having a good time out of mostly anything. Sure, doubts about his lifestyle troubled him every so often, but who could complain about the lovely patch of land his family had tended for such a long time?

Jimmy is ridiculously easy to approach. The day he won't welcome someone with a smile and genuine interest is the day everything inside and outside of the walls dies. His patience is almost bottomless, though he's more of a listener than a talker. In fact he usually has precious little to say and is for the most part useless in decision-making. That's not to say he can't make decisions; it's just that his crooked logic will most likely make it a bad one. Don't expect him to catch on very quickly if something subtle is going on, either.

To compensate for his inadequate survival skills, Jimmy happens to be very good at letting go. Sometimes it's just kind of a necesity to cope with loss when farming, and Jimmy was always extremely proficent  at it. Jimmy walks his chosen path of life with no regrets, he will likewise walk the unknown without that much hesitation. This makes him someone you can count on, even when they will realistically by useless most of the time.

Jimmy did not quite have it easy in his childhood, but he was taught to be content with it. He was, for the most part. There was always something to be desired, however. The old man's stories from the other end of the wall were the one thing to keep Jimmy young at heart while his body roughened through a farmer's lifestyle. Often while his father napped and his mother tended to the youngest mouth of their household, Jimmy would slither out of the house and toward central square, where the old man would sit and tell of the impossible wonders behind the walls. When he went back to take care of his share, he would wander the outside in his mind. His father would catch him and meet his eye with a stern look which would melt into a tender and understanding look only a loving father would extend to their child.

As the years went by, that stern look would take longer and longer to become the expression Jimmy loved to see in his father's face. Constant accusations of leaving his work to his poor sickly mother and little sister tore through their relationship; for a while, Jimmy was misserable and sought relief in fantastic stories told by the old man. Life went on; father and son eventually made up, with mutual respect holding them together as Jimmy's mother passed away. Mary Anne, now of age, also put enough on their plate to keep them too busy to get rough on each other. Things were good.

Until death peeked over the walls of the city. Father, his life monotonous and endurable, was one of the first to fall prey. Jimmy did not take long to follow. His condition not yet deadly, Jimmy's only idea to find out about this disease was to go to the old man. Jimmy himself did not necessarily think of his own survival -what drove him to the old man was the fear that his only family left, eighteen-years-old Mary Anne, would follow suit with no one to look after her.
• Theme song - Swimming while it Rains
 • He's not literate, and in fact possesses very little abstract knowledge. Anything he knows that could not be learnt at his farm he was taught by the old man through his stories.
 • Likes a smoke every so often, though tobacco is increasingly hard to come accross. He's known to have tried some of the plants he grows.
 • Extremely resistent to boredom, could twiddle his thumbs for days waiting for something to happen.
 • Likes all kinds of food and is always open to new experiences, though he could just a happily eat the same thing for days on end.

"Oh my goodness! Look at that! What is that! Quick, quick, check the Encyclopedia!"
Name: Maria Woodsworth
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Birthday: The first day of the first month.

Height: 150 cm, quite short for her age, much to her displeasure. She's quite slim in build despite being well fed and eating a lot.
yPdjEYb.jpg

Having grown up in a place with only 1% literacy at most, and where the literate often seem even more ignorant than the illiterate, Maria tends to talk and act like she knows it all. On top of that, as a princess, she's bossy and doesn't stop to consider others' feelings. No one ever dared speak up or act against her, except her father, so she doesn't really know restraint. Her common sense is lacking and, despite her own illusions about her wisdom and intelligence, she acts before she thinks.

She pretends to be responsible and a dignified princess. Mostly, she just tries to tell everyone what to do since she thinks she knows best. Quite selfish and immature, she's prone to tantrums when things don't go her way.

Her views on the world are mostly derived from the countless heroic tales of explorers and mythological figures she's heard or read. Because of this, she's hopelessly naive and holds far too high expectations of everything.

In the end, she's a spoiled and energetic child with a LOT to learn on this adventure. Easily excited, easily distracted, and easily bored, but her curiosity and enthusiasm helps drive the group forwards.

Born to King Charles II of Sanctum, she was a sheltered girl who grew up in comfort and received the best education possible in the city. Due to her curious nature, she frequently sneaks out into the city itself, where she met the old beggar.
So I know it's not really my business, and I am interested in reading this, but seeing as this was apparently a closed rp from the start and only the 4 writers are involved with everyone else just being allowed to read it, wouldn't this technically belong in the Creative Writing section?

Still plays out like an RP, post by post. Basically everything is like an RP.
