Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End [Errata]

Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster from your Graveyard, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. During the turn you activate this card’s effect, you cannot activate other effects. (1) Once per turn: You can pay 1000 LP; send all cards on the field and in both players’ hands to the Graveyard, then inflict 300 damage to your opponent for each of your opponent’s cards sent by this effect.

From what I believe, this is the only errata we haven't received so far (other than Dark Magician of Chaos) in Premium Gold 2 as this was a promo in V Jump. Its a shame as we might have to wait for a while to get this reprinted and off the ban list. It hasn't seen much play in the OCG as far as I know, so did they nerf this thing to hard?

Seems much more of a game ender instead of setting the field for floaters indeed. Even if we had stuff like Sangan or Witch of the Black Forest again, this errata prevents stuff like that is only best for being a last resort.

Though judging from OCG-land, I believe that, combined with some morals of fair play can come into this.

Even with the errata, it is still a great finisher. It can still attack during the turn it uses its effect and its a 3k beater. In the right situation, you could inflict about 4k damage in one turn just with this. It will be interesting to see how much use it gets.

It destroys itself. So you'd have to use the eff in main phase 2, provided your opponent did not stop your attack and/or you didn't use a card effect to protect him.

4k damage? Unless you mean with attacking, CED can only deal a max 4800 damage if your opponent has 5 S/T, 5 monsters, and 6 in hand

They did a number of changes to this thing:

-It's now a Nomi (originally Semi-Nomi)

-You cannot activate other effects that turn. This is probably the most significant change, as it no longer works with floaters, and if you used effects already, you can't nuke. It can hurt a great deal, but unless it wins, you're starting a topdeck war at a disadvantage.

- It only burns for your opponent's cards.

BLS is much more consistent in demolishing your opponent on a whim than this is.

Its effect has been quite crippled yes, but because it remains searchable by Eclipse Wyvern and still has all the support that comes with being a Dragon, being a 3k beater pretty much on demand isn't exactly underwhelming. It won't ever dominate a meta again, but I could see it being teched for raw power.

I personally feel they should have just left Chaos Emperor alone on the banned list, as a reminder of how ludicrously powerful it was so they'll never repeat...what? Judgment Dragon?

You can spend all day debating the pros and cons of changing banned cards to remove them from the list. Konami is doing it mostly with 1st gen cards for nostalgia baiting since they finally figured out that sells well.

I don't really mind the fact they're giving ancient banned cards a second chance with errata. But doesn't that get kind of confusing for some players? I guess it's not really different from many cards that got reworded (such as the original Neo-Daedalus, which had forgotten the Summon Condition entirely on the first print), but some of the cards now operate completely differently, such as this. Or ridiculously differently, like Crush Card.

I still find it less stupid than unbanning an unaltered Raigeki for the sake of it.

Only if they both a) have a copy of the original version, and b) do not follow any sort of online news that would inform them of the errata nor have anybody who would tell them.

To be honest, I would have liked it if they just prevented other monster effects from being used and not all effects.

More so than the Sangan/Witch combo for Yata Lock, I always loved chaining Inter-dimensional Matter Transporter on this. Then you'd at least have a very modest upper hand in the form of a 3k beater on board.

Also, Gold Series didn't need to provide another copy of Advanced Ritual Art considering how much it was mass produced at Secret Forces. If they were gonna re-print something *cough Nekroz of Brio-cough* or you know.... bring over Chaos Emperor's errata...

  • 2 months later...

I apologize for the Necrobump

As much as I don't think this card is healthy for TCG to have at the moment, it's really looking like this might be 1 of 2 battle city cards TCG is getting on top of w/e OCG gets.

Basically, what do you think the impact of this card will be? Will it pull a Snatch Steal? Will Envoy Dolls become a credible threat?
