[MtG] Stony Silence

Recommended Posts

Chromatic Star/Sphere, Oblivion Stone, Relic of Progenitus, Spellskite.

They rely on Star/Sphere to cast Ancient Stirrings, Pyroclasm, Sylvan Scrying. OStone helps them stabilize. Since I have a clock usually with early counter spell spells like Spell Pierce and Remand, they need only have the ability to draw, naturally, into their cards. Slamming Stony Silence on Turn 2/3 if they are behind is when you get them since they work so hard to try and stabilize or build up resources.

Actually, it is a lot easier for affinity to deal with than Tron since Affinity still puts up a clock. Ensoul Artifact became a powerhouse, and they are now using Master of Etherium. Affinity has less reliance on others. And the Stony Silence decks run Path which is easier on Affinity since they don't rely on their basic land for hate, but for other spells.

Edit: Don't get me wrong, Stony Silence wrecks Affinity, but not just by itself. Tron folds to Stony Silence.

You'd be surprised how few decks pack enough enchantment/artifact hate. I prefer Null Rod in EDH, though. P:

I know I don't even play enchantment hate. My answers to them are things that hit anything. Though I'm adding in Merciless Eviction to take of them in some decks.

As for this card, I play affinity so I've been trying to figure out the best way to beat it. I actually like Tempered Steel versions since they don't care if you have this.

Narrow-ish hate cards in general are not amazing in EDH (unless they're on creatures / toolbox-able! / do something else as well or some combination of such). Might as well just blow up their artifacts or deny mana altogether.

Agreed with the stax deck sentiment, although I probably wouldn't run it in stax either ... it doesn't do a lot by itself is my beef with it and it plays kind of poorly with Winter Orb and its ilk (since in that case you deny yourself mana as well). Plus, not playing mana rocks / random good equips / other artifact thingies hurts most decks more than the help they would get by running a single narrow hate card and hoping to draw it and further hoping it doesn't get removed.

Null Rod and Damping Matrix are the bomb though (and imo "better" options mostly because of the lack of must-run-white as well as being artifacts).
