Pokemon: Expedition Acahra [IC/PG-16]

Recommended Posts

Fortunately, Maks hadn't crashed too far away from where the ghostly flares had gone up. Brutus kept up the steady, albeit a bit slow, pace through the jungle environment. The leafy trees quickly swallowed the Will-o-Wisps that had been guiding the trainer and Pokemon, so they had to simply rely on where they thought their group was. Fortunately, a sudden eruption of fire and the sound of explosions quickly gave away their position.

"A little faster, come on!" Maks urged the lumbering fossil Pokemon, sensing that the others may be in danger. Without warning, they broke through a tall patch of ferns to come upon a clearing that housed several members of the group and over a half dozen female Pyroars. The feline Pokemon had failed to notice Maks and Brutus yet, but it was only a matter of time. Maks momentarily went through his list of Pokemon. Bastiodon would do fine, type wise, against the Pyroars, but his reduced speed might prove to be a detriment in the battle. He would need someone a bit quicker.

Maks carefully slid a PokeBall from his best, trying his best not to make any noise. However, something must have alerted the Pyroars to his presence, because they suddenly turned to face him. The element of surprise was gone. "Tyrogue, Hi Jump Kick!" Maks shouted, hurling the PokeBall into the air. In a flash of white light, the sleek fighting type Pokemon burst into the scene, hitting the closest Pyroar with a powerful Hi Jump Kick. Landing with grace, Tyrogue took up a defensive stance as the other Pyroars continued to advance. It seemed that Maks' appearance had momentarily distracted them from the others in their group. Now would be the time for them to attack.

The Focus Blast missed, typical of that move, but it succeeded in separating the Pyroar. They'd be easier to attack if they weren't all together.

Zack nodded in approval at Itzel's action of having her giant bird on guard duty. It wouldn't be good to have all their attackers out front and let a Pyroar slip past and attack the trainers.

Course there still was the issue of beating these things. TJ had his impressive Arcanine out; which would be a fair match against the Fire types. But it was an obvious fact they were outnumbered. They could do it; he had his fair share of tough fights. Just a matter of getting out of this without getting too injured.

And just at that moment another of their group arrived on the scene. In a spectacularly action-movie way. The man's little Tyrouge scored a hit to one of the Pyroar's faces with a Fighting type move. The attack seemed to have been quite effective and the lioness was obviously greatly injured. However now all their attention was on the one, very small, Pokemon. "Kit we gotta make sure they don't gang up on him; get in there and use Scary Face!"

Kit rushed ahead, getting in the Pyroar's line of sight and lifted her Blackglasses. A startlingly malicious aura surrounded her and whatever look she gave the Pyroar had an immediate effect. The move didn't do any damage but it should slow them down for the remainder of this fight.

"SKREE!" Zack whipped his head around at the sudden noise, to see Itzel's Braviary slam into a Pyroar who had snuck around behind them. It hit with a powerful Brave Bird. Which resulted in a one-hit KO to the lioness. Impressive; however the damage from recoil must've been immense. The bird took wing again as if it were nothing but....

"All right, Who needs healing?"

Ah, perfect timing. The nurse arrived with...what the heck was that? She was NOT going anywhere near Zack with that horrifying needle. Zack was about to direct her to the Braviary when scientist girl came charging onto the scene on a Rapidash. "What's with all these Fire types?...What's with all these dramatic entances while we're at it?" Zack thought. The fire horse just barely avoided catching the nurse as it went past and made its way towards the Pyroar.

Oh right. "Good timing! The Braviary could do with some healing. Everyone else hurry up and attack while these Pyroar are slowed. This is out best shot."

He worried about the two others who haven't arrived yet; but they had to work with what they had.

His words came a bit late, however. As the Pyroar had decided to take this time to counter-attack; aiming Fire Blasts at Kit and the Tyrouge. "Kit look out!"

T.J.

Before T.J. could react further, the rest of the crew managed to show up.  Or, most of them had at least.  But more frightening than the entire nest of wild Pyroar, was Sophia.  T.J. and Arcanine's eyes had both strayed away just shortly after she arrived on the scene.  Before they could welcome her, she brandished an extremely oversized and totally unnecessary syringe.  "What the f--"

"Who needs healing?"

"Aw hell no," he said turning back to the Pyroar.  Helios also gave a confused and concerned look, with a whine to accompany it.  But not before they were interrupted again.  A Rapidash appeared from suddenly nowhere, carrying its trainer, Tayla.  One more to the party was a good thing.  But of course, there was one more.  Maks and Tyrogue wasted no time showing up and showing out, as Tyrogue burst from his Pokeball and unleashed a powerful Hi Jump Kick in one swift motion.  "Nice," T.J. said to himself.  Getting caught up in the moment, T.J. shook his head as Zack and Kit moved into to valiantly defend the Tyrogue.  Now he too had to lend a hand.

Still, he couldn't help but feel that they could still be overwhelmed.  They were in wild territory, and if this fight wasn't over soon, T.J. was worried it could get out of hand.  Then, the Pyroar had turned their attention all on Tyrogue.  A powerful Fire Blast was headed straight for the Tyrogue and Kit.  He had to make a move.

"Helios, intercept it!  Flare Blitz!" T.J. commanded.  The Arcanine surrounded itself in flames, and dashed in between Kit and Tyrogue.  The idea was to absorb the blast with fire on fire tactics, hopefully neutralizing the attack.  Helios was tough.  And hopefully, he could take the hit.

The Fire Blast found its mark, and sent Helios rolling.  But the Arcanine was not down and out, and rolled right onto its feet.  He shook the soot from his coat, and now stared angrily at the Pyroar.  Helios was angry that he had taken so much damage.  He began slowly approaching the Pyroar, snarling as he moved.  His teeth bared, the Arcanine got closer, when T.J. gave him a second command.  "Agility," he said calmly now.  Helios brimmed with color, and charged its body with a psychic power.  Now it enough speed to catch the Pyroar off guard.

Sophia Joy had watched everybody pull back in automatic fear of her giant syringe, and couldn't help the slow grin that split her face, eyes flashing in triumph. Perfect. Now I won't have a bunch of people coming to me for every silly little thing they can think of. She'd had quite a few people pull the "injured" card, whether they were a hypochondriac, or were just flirting. There had been one person, a squinty-eyed man who told her he needed her to "tend to my heart, because your scorching gaze has set it on fire." He had been annoying. Thank goodness she had only had to deal with him for a day. He and his companions had ended up moving on from the town she was staying in after that.

However, the nurse had no problem dealing with actual injuries, and Miss Yoal's Braviary had actual injuries that needed to be seen to. Unfortunately, as it wasn't in its ball, she wouldn't be able to use the PPC, but she still had her nurse supplies. Putting her giant syringe away, and taking out her nurse tote, she took out the necessary supplies. Disinfectant, a couple Potions, some bandages and swabs. Painkillers were out, as they would dull its senses and they might need the giant eagle yet before the day was through.

"All right, this will sting a little," Sophia said gently, and kept speaking. She had noticed that, if she kept talking, and explained what was happening, all in a soft voice, that it helped to keep the patient calm. Or, as calm as they could possibly be while being treated and in pain. This Braviary, in particular, was very much not calm. While its trainer's orders had worked to keep it from flying away, it kept twitching and glancing at the battle, letting out frustrated "SKREE!"s every so often.

"Oh, behave," she scolded, "The sooner you get healed, the sooner you can fight again. Which means you need to be still and work with me, all right?"

Sophia glanced back at the battle, unsure if she should call out one of her Pokémon for assistance. "No, that's all right," she muttered to herself. I can handle a single stubborn bird by myself. She shot said bird a stern look.

It looked like Sophia had the bird healing covered. Though how she was going to do it without the Braviary biting her face off, Zack wasn't sure. He'd have to have faith in the nurse. He was more focused on the battle at hand.

TJ's Arcanine had blocked the attack but not without a cost. It was still going strong but Zack didn't know how long it could last. "Kit, Night Daze!" he called out. The strange black shockwave attack spread out and struck all seven of the  Pyroar at once. Dropping one and injuring the rest. They weren't putting the pressure on nearly enough however. Without the other two companions their battling was hectic and they were struggling to keep standing. Luckily none of their Pokemon had fallen yet.

The remaining six attacked while Zack worried. They seemed frightened by the Arcanine's recent move followed by Kit's attack. They gathered closer together and unleashed an attack. One after the other, the six were perfectly in sync with their moves. They each let out a song-like noise and shockwaves were sent out towards each of the trainers and their Pokemon. Each one stronger than the last. Round. A weak move, but stronger the more Pokemon that use it.

Zack couldn't call out to Kit in time as she was struck by the first two Rounds. The force from the double attack was enough to cause her to faint and Zack had to dive to the side to avoid another Round and return her to the Pokeball. He had to think of who to send out. But he also was concerned about the others. Especially the scientist who had just recently arrived, and Sophia who was busy with her patient......

Oh crap. A Round was heading right towards her. "Quick, Zack, think...." "Go Requiem!" He sent out the resting Ghost type to block the attack. Round was a Normal move so the attack had no effect. Perfect! But...now what? Requiem was asleep and didn't have many moves to hurt the Pyroar, but he didn't have anyone else that could resist their attacks so well...
Zack was no strategist, nor was he a leader. He couldn't figure out a plan. "If only Sein were here...". There had to be something more he could do, the Pyroar's attack had done its damage and now they were preparing for another. It certainly wasn't looking good.
Okay we still got 6 Pyroar. The Rounds will be heading towards every Pokemon so deal with them as you wish. The Pyroar will be readying a second attack, meaning you have time for one/two moves before they attack again.
Tyrogue was holding his own in the fight, bobbing and weaving to avoid the various teeth, claws, and flames that were aimed for him. Unfortunately, his agile dodging couldn't hope to to evade the invisible soundwave that ripped through the air, literally knocking the fighting type off of his feet. Even with a fairly high resistance to normal type attacks, he didn't stand a chance against the onslaught of six Rounds. Crumpling to the ground, Tyrogue was out for the count. Fortunately the attacks' range fell just short of where Maks sat atop Brutus. Every instinct in his body told him to back away from the lionesses, but he knew walking on that ankle would be impossible. He would have to come up with a different plan.

Noticing one member of their group throw out a Dusknoir, an idea bloomed in his head. Of course! Ghosts couldn't be affected by normal type attacks. That would mean that Pyroars' Round combo would be useless. Returning Tyrogue to his Pokeball, he threw out another Pokemon to join the fray. "Piper! Hit them with Hypnosis!" Maks' Haunter shot a well-timed hypnotic ray at the nearest Pyroar, immediately putting it to sleep. "Great job! Now hit it with the Night Fright combo!" He ordered, knowing that Piper understood what that meant.

Piper immediately phased through the sleeping form of the Pyroar, causing it to convulse violently as it was hit with both a powerful Dream Eater and the lasting effects of Nightmare. Figuring she would continue without further instruction, Piper immediately attempted to use Lick on another Pyroar, hoping to paralyze it.

T.J.

Helios had come out on the better end of the trade, only taking moderate damage from the Fire Blasts.  However, the Pyroar were quick to react, letting out a powerful series of Round attacks.  Though Zoroark had managed to take down one Pyroar, six remained.  Their combined strength was still overwhelming.  Zack was forced to switch out Pokemon as his Zoroark fainted, and followed up with the still napping Dusknoir.  Maks followed suit, also changing to a Ghost Pokemon.  A Haunter.  And in order to keep the flow and theme of the battle cohesive, T.J. would also switch Pokemon.  Helios had taken enough damage from the Fire Blasts and Round attacks.  He had earned a break.

"Helios!" T.J. called to the Arcanine, who was panting heavily.  "Return!" he said as he held up a Pokeball, and the Arcanine was struck with a beam of red light, engulfing it and sealing it away to rest inside of the red and white ball.  T.J. then reached for another Pokeball on his belt, one that was a different color than the others.  This Pokeball was blue and white, instead of the usual red and white.  It was a great ball.  "Damascus," T.J. said as he threw out the Great Ball.  Another Ghost Pokemon joined the fray, as the evolution of another.  It was a Gengar.  Its ears stood straight up, as a sinister smile crossed the Gengar's face.  It laughed crazily, mocking the Pyroar.  In an effort to deal damage and support the other attacking Pokemon, T.J. selected a really nasty attack for Damascus to use.  "Sludge Wave."  The Gengar opened its mouth, and lobbed mounds of gunky, purple poison at the Pyroar in a large area.

The Pyroar had let loose a powerful noise blast that seemed to resonate with the others, ultimately magnifying the sound to create an attack that was far more powerful than if there had been just one of those fierce beasts.

Sophia had almost fainted herself from the effect of the blasts. The only reason she hadn't was that she wasn't front and center like her fellows were. Shaking her head to clear it, the pink-haired nurse pursed her lips, nodding at the eagle in front of her. "Best lie low," she advised, "One direct blow from these guys and you'd be out." The bird was already rattled from the indirect damage, the woman didn't think it would last another round of Rounds if it entered the fray again.

Observing the battle with the detached calm of a professional practitioner, she sighed and shook her head. It was a good thing she was here. Most of the Pokémon the others were using were purely offensive, though that one black-haired man seemed to have a good combo going for him there with his Haunter (she was very much not thinking about the fact it was a ghost).

"Apple Gel," the nurse intoned clearly, "The Pyroar have just used a dangerous move. Please protect your new friends," she held out a Poké Ball and released it. From that appeared a giant pink rabbit-like creature with large aqua eyes. Chirping happily at seeing the friends she had made on the plane, the Wigglytuff immediately went into action. "Wiggly!" she cried, sending out a strong wavelength that seemed to pass through her allies and stopped at the nearest Pyroar, causing it to shudder.

Immediately afterward, the Wigglytuff directed her attention at another Pyroar, opening her mouth. Instead of the cheery cry she usually used, however, a calming melody drifted out, hanging in the air lazily.

Sophia smirked. Apple Gel, while lacking the target healing capabilities of her other Pokémon, made for good all-around support and self-sufficiency.

(It's been a full month since I posted. Time to fix this!)

"GET THE F*CK OUT OF MY WAY!"

Both the woman dressed in black and the Rapidash she was riding barebacked on burst into view among the Pyroar, both of them surrounded with flames from the fire horse's Flame Charge. One or two of the Pyroar did not heed the warning, and so wound up being sent flying a few feet away after impact.

"I warned ya!"

"Easy, Ferdinand," the lady spoke in a calming tone before steeling her nerves for the command she was about to give next. "Wild Charge this group of furballs."

"Yes, MA'AM!"

The human began gritting her teeth from pain as the electricity began to surround the pair, the Rapidash bowling through more and more of the Pyroars in chain. The ones that weren't knocked out were sent flying in varying directions in an attempt to make coordinated attacks by the pride more chaotic and easier to tangle with...

His pride of Pyroar was scattered and damaged. The massive male Pyroar watched the fighting unfold before him. They had been driven out of their home by a group of strange humans, only to find more humans elsewhere. His pride had attacked immediately; they had to reclaim their home from these intruders.

However it was not going so well. He watched as the invaders brought down one after another of his pride. The last few that remained standing had been separated by an insane woman's attack and now they were getting hit over and over by the Rock type attack.

He was a powerful Pokemon. Known by the natives as one of the "Twelve Kings of Acahra". But even he knew that sometimes it was best to retreat, and live to fight another day.

He let out a loud and commanding roar, shaking the nearby trees and getting the attention of those still standing. They knew what it meant and they pulled back, carefully; ready for if their attackers struck again.

He could only hope their wounded would be treated well and they could return to him once more. He would be back. These humans have stepped on his land for long enough....
Zack sighed with relief as the Pyroar left. He collapsed next to Requiem, leaning his head onto the sleeping Ghost-type's body. "Jeez, what a welcome, eh?" He called out to everyone. He was sporting a shaky grin. Zack knew quite well that they got lucky. That roar had shown there had been at least one other, the leader, and had it gotten involved...Someone could have been seriously hurt. Luckily it seemed that things had worked out relatively fine.

He glanced around at the others. This was a good group, he decided. Even if they all weren't here yet.

As soon as Zack thought that, there was a rustling in the nearby grass. Zack sat upright, staring at the spot the sound came from. Seconds later two figures came out. Mr. Gherkin and the pilot. They looked a bit ragged and worse for wear but otherwise unharmed.

"Hello hello." Mr Gherkin said nervously. "We, er, stumbled into a bit of trouble...though it looks like you all had some problems of your own. Er....I would like to apologize for the...inconvenience caused by..." He seemed unable to work out what to say. He was obviously troubled and out-of-sorts, so Zack figured he'd let it slide for now. He had no idea if the others would be so kind but that was up to them.

"Welcome to the party." Zack said. "Did you happen to see the others at all?" At the negative response Zack let out a long sigh. Dammit, they just started and already they had lost a couple people. Hopefully they'd find their way back. If Zack remembered correctly, one of them was an ace trainer so he probably can handle himself, and the other guy had been with him so...

"Well I'm sure they'll be fine. Now, we gotta figure out what to do next. Obviously we're a bit off of our destination. And our Pokemon are injured. Not to mention we lost most of our supplies when the plane went down...What do you all think?"
Now, figured it be a good time to end this fight, as there are very few left, let's just say the KOed ones slink off when they wake up if they're left to their own devices.

Basically just use this time as a bit of an intermission. Figure out what you want to do next, rest up, interact, what have you.
T.J.

He breathed a sigh of relief, as the Pyroar scattered.  That being said, them being drawn away by their pride leader was equally frightening.  Damascus tilted his head in confusion as the Pyroar fled, wondering if he had scared them away.  He turned to T.J., and floated to his side.  T.J. flopped down in the grass as Damascus approached.  He reached to pat the Gengar on his heat, but his hand went right through.  "I always forget you're a Ghost-type," he said softly.  Damascus grinned, now patting T.J. on the head.  "That was a hell of a way to begin our adventure," he chimed as things now settled down.  But before he could rest for too long, he heard a scurrying coming from the brush behind him.  T.J., Damascus, and Zack all turned to look, suddenly on the defensive again.  Fortunately, it was only Mr. Gherkin, and the pilot of the now downed aircraft they had just jumped from.

"Hello hello."

Well he seemed to be in one piece.  "You alright old man?" T.J. asked as he stood back up onto his feet.

"We, er, stumbled into a bit of trouble...though it looks like you all had some problems of your own. Er....I would like to apologize for the...inconvenience caused by..."

"Yeah, yeah, shit happens," T.J. said nonchalantly.

"Did you happen to see the others at all?"

"Good question.  Wonder how far they fell from us?"  But Gherkin couldn't confirm anything.  This was the last thing they needed.  To be stranded in the middle of friggin' nowhere, with no idea where their comrades were, or what direction to look in.  Not to mention, at this point, they had little to no supplies.  The best they could hope for was to regroup before dark.

"Obviously we're a bit off of our destination. And our Pokemon are injured. Not to mention we lost most of our supplies when the plane went down...What do you all think?"

T.J. nodded in agreement.  "We need to figure out who's here and who isn't here.  Then, we can start searching for the others.  Can't go losin' our heads right away.  Maybe we can take a breather while we figure out who's missing."  He leaned back into a large tree, sighing and sliding down to the roots.  Damascus took perch on a branch a few feet above T.J., happily absorbing his new surroundings.  It was weird being out here.  One minute he's trying to take down scumbag small party Pokemon gangs, and the next he's on an expedition for. .  .what exactly?  He didn't truly have an answer.  It was best to remain calm, collected, and neutral for now, while he figured out what was going on.  Where the hell were they?  There was a girl on board the plane who supposedly had a map of the area.  Was she nearby?
