Tfw the Masterball fails

This seems more Misc but...

Time to be a nerd.

There's actually a very very very slim chance of the Master Ball failing. Though never actually heard of it failing so might be a rumor.

I mean in terms of a Masterball, like, NOT working on a certain Pokemon.

Yeah, due to how Master Ball works, there's a miniscule chance of it failing, unless they've changed it for the new generation. Critical Capture has a chance of failing too, as far as I know.

Again, the chance of failing is so small it's barely existent. Don't worry much about it.

Also, if Master Ball not working on a certain mon....

Well, they already did that.

There's things like Kyurem in B2/W2, and other trainer's pokemon.

It also doesn't work on the ghost Marowak from Generation 1, from what I recall.

Otherwise, the Master Ball should work.

But yeah, would be interesting if they did lower the catch rate to x254.

Probably wouldn't be noticeable, but imagining the rage from players when THAT fails.

---

I don't think they lowered it though.

(Then again, I still have mine from Pokémon X that I never even touched)

I think that this rate must be a coincidence.

The chances of having a Master Ball fail on you (1/65536) are the same chances as encountering the same fiend once more in a row (256x256=65536, so it is a 1/65536 chance).

Shin Megami Tensei x Pokemon confirmed.

Making it not work 100% of the time would be massively stupid. It would just randomly screw people over once in awhile, and not actually add anything to the game.

Also, every time I see the title of this thread, I think it says masturbate. I blame Dae for this.

[s]Imagine if Masturbation did fail, though[/s]

I like the concept of a middle finger hidden inside a sea of success, though.

I think there was a ridiculously small chance of it happening in like...the Gen I games, due to the algorithm or something, where the 255x multiplier was JUST short of 100%. Like so slim it'd never realistically happen. But that might just be an urban legend kind of thing, and I'm sure later games have the formula worked out right.

Critical Capture is completely different, and fails much more commonly. All Critical Capture does is skip the 2nd and 3rd checks, so if the first shake passes, it's caught, but if the first shake fails, the capture fails.

masterball having a 1% chance of failing, or being unusable on certain Pokémon would make the game more hilarious than anything. also, a critical capture with a masterball would be the greatest overkill ever.

on another note does critical capture even work on legendaries? I've never seen it happen when I was spending hours throwing premier balls at deoxys.

Pretty sure it works on legends yeah. I know my first one was against the Volcarona in White. Though, that's not a legend but still an event Pokemon, dunno for sure.

Anyway. Thing is, Quickball is oftentimes my go-to ball for catching, I think I only ever used one Masterball. (On Kyogre in AS cause it was wrecking my shit as I was underleved the whole game.)

Critical capture works on legends; I've seen it happen a couple times (sound-wise), though they usually don't end up catching; even with low health and statused.

I think it happened once in ORAS, but that's it (and I don't remember which one that was).

I do remember the Master Ball failing in the anime, when it was eaten by a giant Whiscash.

Ah yes, that episode. (Which, fortunately, doesn't happen in-game)

@via1ne: Like Nai and I mentioned, you already can't use it on Black/White Kyurem [regular Kyurem later on, you can use it] or that ghost Marowak and stuff from Gen 1.

And also Trainer Pokes, unless Shadow Pokes in XD and Colosseum (those are the only exceptions).

It would've been hilarious to see it happen in-game though.

One thing I do remember from the Gen 1 games is sometimes when you toss a pokeball (like at a Legend), it can "miss" the pokemon.
