(GigaDrillBreaker)
When your opponent's monster declares a direct attack: You can discard this card; negate the attack, then end the Battle Phase (this is a Quick Effect). So, in such an OTKcentric metagame, is it possible that a card like this might be viable? Let them commit heavily toward their kill, then stop it with this before turning it around and pulling your own.
Trebuchet MS
The preference is Battle Fader, usually, as it lets you have a monster out for Tribute/Synchro/whatever.

No, Scarecrow is the better of the two thanks to Fader needing to Special Summon itself to work. The only way to stop Scarecrow short of Counters like Debunk is to Book of Moon your own attacking monsters.
newhat
I'd rather Jackfrost than Fader, but Scarecrow is best at keeping you from dying since the range of plays that counter it is extremely narrow.
Trebuchet MS
I never thought I'd actually see the time period when Swift Scarecrow was seen to be better than Fader.

To be honest, it has been that way for a while. Outside of things along the lines of Monarchs that want as many tributes as they can get, Scarecrow has been preferred. Before Vanity's, it got around Solemn Warning.
