Who doesn't love Gradius?  To those who don't know, This is a pseudo-archetype that Konami released as a reference to their Space Shooter series on the SNES, PS1 and PS2 Gradius.  The archetype focuses on boosting small attack monsters to swarm the field rapidly with effects that activate when they destroy a monster by battle.  Most of the monsters summon Tokens or each other, so that's why Oh Tokenbaum! is in here.  You can activate it during the battle phase to squeeze in a bit more damage before going for a M2 synchro or Xyz.  Jar of Avarice is there to pull Honest out of the grave so that Solidarity can work in tandem, and you can do the same thing with Call of the Haunted if you SS honest and then add it back with it's effect.

No this deck isn't meta.  Nowhere close.  But it is pretty fun once you get some experience with it.

Oh wait I beat Nekroz 1 out of the 12 matchups I had INSTA TIER ZERO KONAMI WHERE'S MAH GRADIUS SUPPORT

Double Summon

Gravity Blaster

Lightwave Tuning

Power Capsule

These look like a waste of space to be honest. Double Summon would make sense... if the deck wasn't loaded with monster revival already. Power Capsule looks cute, but it relies on a single monster or otherwise is dead, and that can lead to clogged hands. Lightwave Tuning is a -1 just for access to the Synchro8 pool; it doesn't look like it is worth it when the Rank4 pool is so broad that it should have answers for most stuff.

You may be better off by replacing those cards with generic backrow and staples (e.g. Compulsory, Soul Charge).

Relying on Jar of Avarice to keep your grave clean of non-Machines and make Solidarity live looks risky. Another reason to stay away from Lightwave and Synchro8s, that don't have good Machines if I remember correctly.

As for suggestions, perhaps you could try a CyDra Core + Repair Plant engine? Core searches for Repair Plant, then when it hits the grave Repair Plant can search for a spaceship. You can further "extend" the engine by running 1 or 2 CyDra Drei, who can be Special Summoned by Core's second effect and provide you with Xyz fodder.

You could be more silly and add Instant Fusion + Noden/Panzer Dragon: Noden for instant Rank4 plays, and Panzer Dragon in case you draw into said CyDra Drei and make Nova --> Infinity who apparently can wreck decks on its own. But then it wouldn't be Gradius deck anymore but a Gradius/CyDra build, and this may not be what you are looking for.

Funny, I've been running Gradius.dek quite a bit recently. I've had a lot of success throwing in Machina Armored Unit and Cyber Valley in order to keep cards on the field and giving an easy way to summon Jade Knight.

Also agree with Voltex on the more genaric stuff. Lightwave Tuning and Power Capsule seem excessive and less than necessary.

Thanks for your inputs!

Yeah the Synchro engine is very gimmicky for no reason.  I was thinking about cutting it as I almost never use it.

Power capsule can be useful, but maybe only as a tech 1.  I only say this as Vic Viper is usually the one I go for the most since combined with honest he can single handedly finish off games.  There is actually an OTK around Viper I found with the following conditions:

  • Your opponent controls only 1 monster with 2200 attack or more, or if they have multiple monsters, the most powerful monster is stronger by an equal margin (for example if they have a monster with 800 attack, the strongest monster needs 3000 attack)
  • Viper on field
  • Honest
  • Either Power Capsule or a 2nd vic token.

The combo should be self explanatory, but it's basically attack with vic > drop honest > SS another token > Vic and the tokens become 3400+.  8000 - 1200 - (3400*2) = 0

Gravity Blaster was just to boost over stuff.  could easily be replaced.

You already know the reasoning behind double summon, but like you said the deck has some very powerful monster revival.

A CyDra engine might help, and I am considering running the Union for even more monster revival.  Plus if I do i can run 1 copy of Dragon Laser to Nuke the field.  I was just hesitant since my build revolves around solidarity, and for some god forsaken reason the Union is a Dragon.

Also I should probably throw in a 2nd honest.  I will mess around with it a bit.
