Toon Summoned Skull

Recommended Posts

Well went back to the classics and see this effect re-worded. My intuition is telling me that they are reprinting Toon monsters and possibly that there could be new supports. I may be wrong.

(This card is always treated as an "Archfiend" card.)
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Cannot be Special Summoned unless you control "Toon World". Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by Tributing the same number of monsters needed for a Tribute Summon (normally 1). This card cannot attack the turn it is Special Summoned. You must pay 500 Life Points to declare an attack with this monster. If "Toon World" on the field is destroyed, destroy this card. This card can attack your opponent directly, unless they control a Toon Monsters. If they do control one, this card must target a Toon Monster for its attacks.

>(normally 1)

Why is this funnier than it should be?

OT: Unless they do get the support to jump past an entire decade of powercreep, this won't be good ever again. Though, way back when, a 2500 direct attacker was very threatening. But it's turned from possibly the best Toon into an ignorable one.

The card's newer and clearer lore for the first time lets it be clear how awful they are.

There's the stuff the card already had clear:

-No attack the turn it is Summoned and even after it can it requires a LP cost to do so.

-Needs Toon World to even be played and instantly dies the moment said Toon World is destroyed.. a Spell that does nothing and costed LP and advantage (though admittedly is is a very easy part to improve).

Then the stuff that was just made clear to me via the update:

-They are semi-nomis.... Like, what the...? I all these years thought they had a clause similar to that of the Guardians but with a self Special Summon condition as a bonus. So no way to abuse Mermaid's stats to swarm her with Inferno Reckless... an old deck I made is now officially cheating (I mean it most likely always was, but it is finally written clearly). It would have made sense if they at least had been given that plus...
-It says "to Tribute Summon it" so no reducing its Level to ditch the Tributes anymore or it'd stop being a Tribute Summon. Why wouldn't they put "Normal Summon" in that last clause instead? Even Pegasus used a Cost Down combo on it once....

So the deck is not only super outdated in power but it also was made clear that the strategy also is pretty much as linear as can be.

On the plus side they finally added the Archfiend clause. I knew about it ever since GX times, but never took advantage of it because it looked like a bunch of BS. I mean, anyone would think that when they keep reprinting Summoned Skull throughout the years without correcting that issue they've known about for almost 15 years.... and one can't really site lolWikia as the source of where you read why Beast of Talwar and Lesser Fiend work with Chess monsters....

The good thing is that on itself it is very searchable by Table of Contents and that one Level 3 Archfiend monster and so is Falling Down which guarantees some minuses for the opponent.... though even that controlling combo is outdated because even something as potent as Raigeki only really buys time.

I still loved Toon Monsters so much... I was proud of my secret rare Blue-Eyes Toon Dragon. Back when a 3k beater was good enough and MST was too good to move up from 1 on the banlist.
