Thar
Icy told me to write a couple paragraphs about what was going through my mind while making each part of my end of this collab. Ugh, homework. Since I was apparently starting, I was given the choice of a photo, for which I chose this: Since I was so used to GIMP at this point, when I went to use the pen tool to render the cowboy, it was damn near impossible. So I tossed the pen tool and went with the Quick Mask tool. It was much easier and came out with a result that was much better than I anticipated. At this point, I thought I was supposed to make something that showcase would critique like a sig, so I did what I always did and referred to a tutorial, which usually never worked out in my favor as far as execution.

After making what I thought was good enough to pass onto Icy. What he sent back was a major turn of events to what I was expecting.

This was relieving, and I immediately thought of Bane because of the mask. I looked behind the buildings imagining the whole thing just blowing up. EXPLOSIONS! I knew what I was gonna do. It took some experimentation to pull off, but I did it, though the explosion was not enough. I needed fire. FIRE AND EXPLOSIONS! This part of the collab made me feel like Michael Bay. I even threw in a stock photo of a crumbling structure to make one of the buildings look like it was hit by the explosion. Call me insane, but it just needed to be done.

At this point, we were pretty much done. All Icy did from there was some cleanup and the addition of a badge with a T on it. While discussing name ideas, he suggested "Sheriff T", but I suggested "Sheriff Bane" cause of the mask. He countered by saying T stood for "Thar." As honored as I was, I went with that. With that, we came up with this final result:
This was my first real collab as well as Icy's. 'Twas fun. Smear
looks alright, some gmaps could really help the whole piece though.
Cierfrost
looks alright, some gmaps could really help the whole piece though. I'm really hesitant on using gradient maps that aren't self-made or outside text. I'd rather color each part individually if I can help it honestly. Most of what I have to say is really what Thar stated, my thought process through a lot could easily be seen through what I edited. However... what caught me off guard most of all was Thar's use of lighting. I almost never adjust the highlights on a piece before I finish so I felt like I was working backwards for a while. So I tried to and hopefully successfully adjusted it so that the background fits with the focus, not the other way around and then blending in. But blending the background with the focus and then meshing it all together. Thar appeared to have taken the bait and all in all it worked out great imo. Especially because we never really were even remotely on the same page as it felt. Just one person guiding the other and vice versa. If I had any more time than a straight day planned to do this though... I'd have probably incorporated more futuristic elements and hard texturing to make the city feel a bit more Post-Apocalyptic Wild West. As far as the experiment goes, I'm happy with the result even if its not on par with my personal work. It is what it is, and I love it. Next time I do this with Thar, if there is, its not going to be an experiment but an exercise in communication and the result will be that much stronger. Referring to the bolded text, I was actually thinking about putting in a red robot eye like the terminator on the cowboy, but I hesitated. But yeah, I think the only thing that was holding the communication and guidance back was my internet. Had we been able to do a Skype call, we'd've been able to pull that off. But alas, my connection was just waiting to troll us by disconnecting me at random times.

Smear
GMAPs don't have to be a colour as a solid though, if you just put a gradient adjustment layer and make some adjustment to the layer mode and play around a bit you can just make the whole tag more pleasant to look at. I just did a quick 10 second job with it making like a dusty look to the tag, while I put barely any effort with this you could make it look a lot better. Cierfrost
I'm outright disappointed in myself that's what it was. I was so focused on everything else, making sure it didn't look over-saturated no matter what step it went into I didnt consider using what amounts to "mood lighting" at all even though as apparent it would have helped it tremendously. Smear
Ahhhhh. Fair enough then, I thought you were posting that facepalming to what I had said or something. I misunderstood haha Anyway yeah, I almost always finish my tags off with gmaps, can potentially make or break the tags outcome for me.

If it amounts to anything, I would've added GMaps if 1.) I knew what they were called and 2.) if I knew where they were. lol
