[MtG] Tiny Leaders: Discussion & meetup place

So, if you're even remotely interested in MTG, you PROBABLY heard about this new craze called Tiny Leaders. What is it? Basically it's an EDH variant, and a pretty interesting one to boot. Seeing as some people on YCM started posting their decks for it AND I know who people who are interested, I figured making a collective topic would be useful.

What is Tiny Leaders?
As I said, it's an EDH variant. Lots of the rules stay - color identity, commander, commander damage, commander tax. However, some rules are changed:

  • Deck size: 100 => 50
  • Starting life total: 40 => 25
  • Maximum CMC allowed for a card is 3. Any cards that cost 4 or more are not allowed.
  • You mulligan as you would in a normal MTG game. (No partial mulligans.)

So as you can see, tiny indeed. Smaller decks, smaller cards. You're also allowed to have a 10 card sideboard you can use in-between games, but you're not allowed to change your commander.

Banlist?
Yes, there is one. For now it seems to be mostly Legacy banlist + a few format-specific choices

Also, following 3 creatures are not allowed to be your starting commanders:

People!

It would be pretty nice if we assembled a small community to play the format on Cockatrice. If you're up, let me know and I'll add you to the list~

And of course, feel free to discuss the format, ideas, and other related stuff here.

I'd pass on this format. From what it sounds like, it just seems to be Legacy 2.0. The 1v1 format and reduced size seems to bring out the Spikes in people, and I like the more interactive multiplayer aspect of EDH.

It's really not. You still build around your commander, you need to run singletons, and lots of power cards like JtMS, Force of Will etc. don't simply make the cut by rules.

My playgroup's proving my original thesis. xD

EDIT: Also, the OP's wrong on one count. Commander damage doesn't exist in Tiny Leaders.

IMO this format is more similar to the French list but on crack.

I love to play it because it's super fast, not because of the interactivity; everything is mini-ized and deckbuilding is a fresh experience from regular EDH (which is not particularly challenging to break in half ... but much more challenging to build a deck that's fun for everyone).

Don't get me wrong, I love battlecruiser magic just as much as the next guy, but Tiny Leaders is still a blast. Yes, it is very spikey, but that does not take away from its fun. You are right about the legacy remark. It plays very similarly to the format. Thing is, that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Mmm, I guess. I could just be prejudiced. I do have a Shu Yun build I've been itching to build in normal EDH, so I may try converting it over.

After looking over the possible choices, the ones I'm most interested in building around are Athreos, Doran, Pharika, and Varolz.

As you can tell by the color of the creatures, I like GWB. Doran seems really interesting since I imagine you have a lot more high toughness creatures at lower CMCs than high power.
