Dr. Percival Cox
So I remember trying this out last year and now that I have actual free time, I'm thinking of allotting some YCM time back in mah life. So I guess post gear pics, general talk about guitar and maybe put some of your own music up? I dunno, but I'd like this to be an actual thing this time. Have fun too! Tentacruel
This should definitely be a thing. I'll see if I can find/take pictures of my gear and throw them up. On a related note, I'm probably gonna buy another guitar soon. http://www.schecterguitars.com/guitars/banshee/banshee-7-passive-2014-11-18-detail Probably that one, but I change my mind very often. Dr. Percival Cox
I'm glad someone agrees. AND DAT FINISH. What kind of style do you tend to play?
Tentacruel
I'm glad someone agrees. AND DAT FINISH. What kind of style do you tend to play? Blues to some extent because it's the most obvious thing to diddle around with when you pick up a guitar. Other than that, metal, and I kind of want to learn to play jazz. Tentacruel
So basically I'm deciding between this: http://www.schecterguitars.com/guitars/banshee/banshee-7-passive-2014-11-18-detail brand new, or this: http://www.schecterguitars.com/guitars/artist-models/jeff-loomis-jl-7-detail used, $360 from a pawn shop that's like an hour from my house. Very conflicted.

Very conflicted. Get the second hand one if it is in good condition. These two guitars are really similar spec-wise and its probably not worth paying more than double the price for the Banshee. Anyway, this is the current gear I have at Uni with me:

Thinking about buying a 7-string myself but not sure what to get. Tentacruel
Yeah, unfortunately the Loomis didn't end up working out, for a few reasons. I'll probably regret it later, because of how great the deal was, but I ended up ordering the Banshee. Couldn't take the stress of the decision anymore. It was mentally tearing me apart. Oh well. Yolo sweg. Edit: On the subject, I'm wondering what strings I'm gonna use. I'm thinking 10-46 with a low 64, but buying single strings is expensive. Zauls
Looks like I'm now being taught guitar by Charlie Griffiths of Haken! This will look good on my music CV.
NotKrow
I have a few pictures but their low quality and don't have some for my Gibson right now. Gibson Les Paul Studio 2014. I just put SD Black Winters in today actually. Fender American Standard 2002 - I bought this off a guy who has done a lot of modifications to it. Fender Noiseless, gold pickguard, rewired it so the tone control affects the bridge as well http://i.imgur.com/lUqr3m6.jpg Jackson 8 string. I completely forgot the model name of this, but it's just a cheaper model. http://i.imgur.com/1A8R6PD.jpg Ibanez RG927. http://i.imgur.com/wMZ0tDC.jpg put a SD Pegasus in the bridge. Ibanez RG570 http://i.imgur.com/12Mpqgc.jpg on the left, put a D-Activator in the bridge. Don't really play it anymore Sparrow Twangmaster. Put a Super Distortion in the bridge, in the photo above on the right

NotKrow
For real tho, how do you like those Black Winters? I haven't found very many clips online. I like them a lot, they're pretty damn responsive to whatever I play. I was originally gonna put a set of D Activators in it, but I couldn't find any locally so I just grabbed my second favorite pickup set lol. If I do come across a set of D Acts I probably won't switch them out though, the Black Winters are really nice.
Tentacruel
Nice. I have my eye on the Schecter KM-6, which has those. (Although that's for a another time as I just bought a guitar.) On another note, my Banshee's gonna arrive on Saturday, so when it does I'll post pics of my whole rig.

They really pulled some magic around cause they hit the nail on the head with their new models lol. You shoulda grabbed that Jeff Loomis though it has really good trade value. I think I use 10-46 with a 56? On my seven. I'm not too sure I haven't really restrung it in forever. What tuning are you gonna put it in?

At least now I have the exact guitar I want so if this happens again I won't be as pressured. I'll keep it in standard or Drop A. It comes stock with 10-56 but I'm thinking of a low 64 or something to get a similar tension to what I use in E standard/Drop D which is 10-52. Unfortunately single strings are kind of expensive. I might try Circle K strings as they have pretty much exactly what I want.
NotKrow
The new line Banshees are really sweet and well priced too so you got a cool guitar either way. What amp are you running through?
Tentacruel
A Laney Ironheart 60W running through an Avatar 2x12 with Celestion V30's. Totally agree about Schecter by the way. Until the last year or so I always just associated them EMG's and a crapton of abalone which I think is hideous. And now they come out with a bunch of awesome models. My brother just got some limited edition matte black Hellraiser he found on craigslist that looks alright. I also recently bought a used Schecter Stilleto 5 string. So much Schecter so fast. NotKrow
Nice. I'm running through an Orange Dark Terror and a 2x12 Orange cab. I'm gonna get an Orange TH30 head soon as well. Yeah I am not a fan of EMG and loaded abalone lol. What kind of music do you play?
Tentacruel
I try to play all kinds, but right now it's somewhere in the progressive metal/melodic death metal neighborhood because that's what I've been listening to.
NotKrow
That's the same ballpark I'm in lol. I play mostly prog metal, but I'm in a alt/indie rock band so I don't write much metal anymore

Tentacruel
Very good. Taking some time to get used to the 7 strings, but I'm getting the hang of it. I've definitely noticed I have to use way less gain than what I'm used to or the sound gets all boomy and disgusting. Pretty high output pickups I guess. Sounds great though.
