Indeed, there are certain Pendulums making the game suck a bit; see Qliphorts.

 

After a while, you'll get used to their addition; but indeed it leads to a lot of Special Summoning from the hand/Extra Deck.

Yes, when you mentioned them I did have a quick peek over at the wikia. I think I got a basic grasp of how they're supposed to work, but I also gave up when they started busting out the charts.
