MarbleZone
Ancient Gear Engineer destroys a Crystal Beast and it is place it in the Spell and Trap Card Zone. Can Engineer's effect be used to destroy that Crystal Beast? I'm not sure about the timing.
Master Hyperion
http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Ancient_Gear_Engineer Negate the effect(s) of Trap Card(s) that designates this card as a target and destroy it. If this card attacks, your opponent cannot activate any Spell or Trap cards until the end of the Damage Step. At the end of the Damage Step this card attacks, destroy 1 Spell/Trap Card on your opponent's side of the field. If this card is destroyed while it is in a Monster Card Zone' date=' you can place it face-up in your Spell & Trap Card Zone as a Continuous Spell Card, instead of sending it to the Graveyard.[/quote'] Since Crystal Beasts's effect is activated during the damage step, you can destroy it with it's effect, because Engineer's effect is activated during the end of the damage step. Sadly, it doesn't work Like that. You have to fallow the chain Correctly. Turn players Mandatory effects, Opponents Mandatory effects, Turn Players Optional Effects, Opponents Optional Effects. Both monster's effects activate at the end of the damage step, so It would go like this, Ancient Gear is link 1, but at that time he has to select the target first. Than Come the crystal beast, The crystal Beast Choses to Go to the back row. Note that the crystal beast is not in the back row when the gear enginer selected its targe. Resolution, Crystal Beast goes to the back row, The selected Target is destroyed by Gear enginer. Its the exact same reason Kycoo can not remove from play the monster it destroys as a result of battle even if it inflicts damage.

No. The order of "Turn players Mandatory effects, Opponents Mandatory effects, Turn Players Optional Effects, Opponents Optional Effects" only applies when Simultaneous Effects Go of In a Chain (SEGIC) or would otherwise activate at the same time. That is not the case here, so SEGIC is irrelevant. Gem Beast effects do not activate at the end of the Damage Step; they activate when they are destroyed, which comes before the end of the Damage Step. Therefore, the effects are not simultaneous. Therefore, they do not occur during the same chain. SEGIC does not apply. The Kycoo analogy does not work because Kycoo's effect activates when he inflicts Battle Damage, and Battle Damage is inflicted before the weaker monster is destroyed by battle. That's why Kycoo can't remove the monster he destroys; it has nothing to do with SEGIC. This is why attacking a face-up Attack Position Winged Kuriboh will still inflict damage to your opponent; Winged Kuriboh has not actually been destroyed at the time when Battle Damage is calculated, and therefore his effect can't protect his controller from damage (unless his controller is Judai, but Judai is lame so nobody cares).
