bury the year
Modern soul/funk. You may recognize her from .fun's "We are Young," but her sound's so much different. As someone for whom this isn't my normal genre, I like her a lot. Slow burning catchiness. Thoughts? (This is one of her older songs, btw.)
.Rai
MMYYY BAAAAEEEEEE Seriously though, Janelle Monáe is potentially one of the greatest artists this decade (I think there was a collective gasp of surprise when so many publications put her début as best album of 2011). Great message of equality that she spreads in her music, she's actually an incredibly important role model figure for lots of people. That said, coolest thing about her is firstly that her music is so eclectic and musically complex, and secondly that it's just so funky. Oh, and that her music fits in to an absurd 28th century, Metropolis-inspired storyline about androids and all kinds of cool stuff.
