Right, half of you want shadows and stuff, and half of you are slightly more sane. Tormey can go through limitations and stuff, but at the moment it's deciding whether you lot want a shadow, italics, bold and colour.

I personally take responsibility for the spam BUT I think the darkish blue with the outerglow we had earlier looked nice and clean, the icons next to names could work but it requires coherent designs and a little more prep, as in theory we could have icons and stuff after the name rather than before but as I've said a few times to aix and such I'll update them on stuff I can work out.

Make a poll for what color each should be and go with whatever people decide on, settle with just that. All of that other shit is amusing for a while but eventually it's going to get old.

Echoing Night here. The knick-knacks are fun, but they'll get old. I might make a poll or something.

Regarding sparkles, someone else has to edit that out. I don't have the access.

Actually, I think little icons might be fine if we make them look very simple and dignified.  Like level stars for post count, for example.

The only two reasons why the outerglow makes things unreadable is  

 

1) you use different colours and it just doesn't work because the outerglow isn't 100% customized (I'd like to play around with the pixel sizes with the outerglow but I digress)

 

2) you use way too bright colours and that screws up with the white background, darker colours with the same colour shadow works well.

 

Also it may seem like a gimmick now but if we can settle down and use one of the effects it would become just like having different coloured usernames, the sparkles and stuff are a little over the top, yes but the shadow and stuff if pulled off well would look quite clean.

 

p.s. It may be possible to embed a youtube link using the html coding which I really haven't looked at yet but LOLOLOL.

Personally I liked what it was when I first came on. Or soon after, forgot which. Anyway, the white with the grey outer thing, that looks pretty interesting.

But the italics purple works well.

Since (I think) custom groups are going to be a thing, an expensive thing but still, it's probably best to keep the main groups simple, to not devalue the ones that can be bought.

There's a bunch of stuff you can do with the coding so I don't think devaluation will be that bad, the biggest issue we will face is the coding and how people are going to find what they want seeing as it will likely be a single purchase, I seriously don't know how the mod team plan on pulling it off lol.

Text drop shadow through CSS is a nice classy look that fits the look of the forum. If anyone cares, I can whip up a demo.
