Let's try something different this time. Roleplaying, to me, is all about the characters. So let's talk characters. Let's just create characters. Let's visualize their lives, their personalities, their loves... and their destinies, without the constraint of a roleplay's plot or the premise. Create characters that you'd love playing, that you'd be invested in - that you'd be interested in their every detail. Characters that you would be able to imagine to their fullest, alive and dynamic, living through all sorts of emotions - happiness, grief, anger, fear... despair.

 

I have observed that attachment to an RP lies not in the plot, or even the premise, but in the characters themselves. So let's try something different and create what's important first, before the plot. We could potentially then move these characters into RPs.

 

Create a character using any sort of RP application. Put in some background/world detail first, then fill out whatever is relevant on your app, then write more about the character, what sort of things they do, what sort of adventures they may have.

A strict form of magic, bound by rules, his magical conjuring is centred around three important principles that restrict users of this magic. The first rule is that a magical effect is given a specific purpose. One cannot 'turn down' a fireball spell to light a candle - you'd best hope you have one big candle. Secondly, spells require preparation before casting, in the sense of a magical bomb. Each prepared spell can only be used once, before it must be prepared if one would wish to use it again. Finally, a spellcaster can only have a finite number of spells on their person at any given time.

Jack collects Spell Books in order to broaden his arsenal of spells. With a modest collection to date, he uses these books and, from them, writes out Spell Scrolls through which he channels his magic and, by extension, the spell. Risanai is not exactly a tall woman, but she was not short either at 175 centimeters. Her short black hair gives off a tomboyish impression for her, which is true, to an extent. Her eyes were almond-brown, which is not really something uncommon, really. She often wears glasses, though it was less about her eyes having problem and more due to it being fashionable.

 

No matter what the occasion is, Risanai is usually seen wearing many variations of formal suits, though she is most seen wearing a grey set of suit, all being men’s suit to hide her actual body curves. She never even considers wearing skirts, seeing them as being completely impractical to use.

Despite her claim that she used her best efforts to try looking calm, cool, and composed, at times she can’t help but to act childish and immature, though whether this is something intentional or not is a subject of debate to others around her. Offending her is quite hard, as she could rarely be shocked, angered, or even saddened by something. She usually is the person that initiates a conversation in a group, but if it’s between her and someone else, her social awkwardness kicks in, and at times she have a hard time to even maintain a normal two-person conversation. She’s not above snarking whenever she feels like it, though most of the time she’s more interested in making jokes out of everything, something that not everyone really appreciates.

 

She will really prefer if she’s referred to as a man, instead of a woman.

 

An opportunistic-ly selfish person in heart, but she usually cares enough for other to not be completely acting for her own sake, but even at her worst, she will still try to act nice to others.

[spoiler=Personality]Aiden is a prick. He thinks he's the smartest, and best looking person around, no matter where he is. He's utterly vain, hates when he gets dirty, or his body is injured in any way. He always tries to dress in the most expensive clothing. Even if he could get the same thing for less price. He's extremely determined whenever he sets himself to a task, but refuses to do anything until he knows it will benefit himself. He's an utter show-off. He has been known to put others in danger and do things a less practical way just so he can seem more impressive. Everything you can do, he can do better, or at least that's what he'll claim. Aiden is also bigoted. Any race that isn't human totally disgust him. This is especially true of races that have a longer life-span.[/spoiler]

[spoiler=Biography] Aiden was born into a rich family. His father was a priest, but a very corrupt one. He made himself rich off of skimming donations to the church. It was discovered Aiden had magical talent early on, and his father made him study it in order to help help make him even richer. He was spoiled but only when he showed improvement, otherwise he went without meals for days at a time. He admired his father even so, for being a person who got whatever he wanted with ease. And when his father got older, and his looks started to fade, Aiden panicked. He saw the effects of aging, and did not like it. He couldn't stand the thought of his flawless looks fading, and even worse, that eventually he would cease to exist. He decided to devote himself to magic even more, hoping to find a way to halt his aging permanently.[/spoiler]

[spoiler=Abilities] A powerful mage who specializes in dark magic, Aiden can use his magic to curse others with various hexes. Including and not limited to: temporary blindness, weakening, and madness. However he doesn't like to be so subtle all the time. And in those cases he uses the dark magic to control shadows, crushing his enemies or whatever feels more flashy at the time.

Has also dabbled in fire magic, and pulls out a fireball when he really wants to impress the peasants, though he isn't very good with aiming them.[/spoiler]

He doesn't see it as lying because "Everyone loves an exciting story. Killing a giant? Cool. Killing a dozen giants on the edge of an active volcano? Better. I just give them what they want, it makes them happy. And makes them less afraid." He truly wants to be a hero, more than anything. And strives to always do the right thing. This often leads him to giving up any form of reward, beyond a simple thank you. He loves to make friends, and will talk to everyone he can. Brave, and always willing to take on the jobs no one else wants.[/spoiler]

[spoiler=Biography]Marcus is the son of a knight. Or so he thinks. In reality his father was a gambler and a drunk, and would vanish for long periods of time. He always claimed that he was off doing some great knightly deed. He explained away their lack of money by saying he gave it all to the poor. One day his father never came back. Marcus was sure he was lost on some important quest, and he set out to find him. Everyone he asked denied the existence of a knight matching his father's description and Marcus became convinced that his father was on a top secret mission. He strives to make a name for himself, and hopefully learn his father's whereabouts.[/spoiler]

[spoiler=Personality]Anger. Hilde is a very angry girl. Quick to make judgement and is very easy to tick off. She holds grudges for many years. Even those she doesn't dislike are on thin ice most of the time. Hilde is also proud and is as hard on others as she is herself. Thinks everyone should strive to do the best they can with everything they do. However she also can't help but aid those in need. It's a compulsion more than anything. While she believes people should be able to help themselves she can never leave them on their own. Nothing gets her more excited than a good fight but she never intentionally starts it.[/spoiler]

[spoiler=Biography]Born into slavery, she was treated like nothing, and for many years believed it. She didn't know who her parents were, she was taken away from them as soon as she could walk, and has no memories of them. Hilde was sold to many different masters over the years. At the (physical) age of eleven she killed her first person, her current master. And escaped into the wild. She was found by a tribe of human barbarians, who took her in, and taught her how to hunt, and fight. And to use primal magic. She spent a few years there, before she ended up killing the chieftain's son in a fight. The chieftain beat her, but she ran away. This, and her years as a slave, gave her a hatred of humans. She has been traveling on her own since, surviving on spite.[/spoiler]

[spoiler=Abilities]Skilled with any ranged weapon, as well as unarmed fighting. She also possesses some magic, able to transform into a bobcat at will, as well as speak with animals.[/spoiler]

Ian is a character who's first memories are of wandering a giant forest which he mended and care for. He is a child of nature and takes the appearances of an elf. Ian is wise and appears young. Although he is wise, he is childish and can fall deeply in love. He depises all darkness, for a terrible darkness destroyed he ancient home. Ian has bright green eyes, pitch black hair, pale skin, and he towers over most.
