because why not (Token Thanksgiving)

Recommended Posts

It's just... 800 per destroyed Token is just not really enough. With the exception of mass nukes like Raigeki and Dark Hole, or if your opponent simply has enough removal to spare on them, each Token probably will probably absorb an attack that would have hit your Life Points. Most monsters have more than 800 ATK. You're sacrificing your shields or whatever you're using them for for meager Life Point gains, and it's just not enough.

I'd say you could make it where it was like 3000 per destroyed Token or something, but this card was made back when Scapegoat was 2gud IIRC. A sudden +12000 heal would have scared the pants off of people.

Edit: Well, there's also your opponent's Tokens. Except, again, 800 for something so situational is just... egh.

LP gain is very hard to balance out.

The typical beat down and even burn and deck-out strategies in the game have as a concept reaching the opponent's goal before they reach yours, and putting in obstacles in your own goal to so that they have a harder time doing the same. In any of those ways the reach goal is set in place.

Then we get LP gain as a strategy. +LP's whole purpose is taking your goal and extending the way a few miles, and because the way it's been handled in Yugioh takes the dedication it takes, decks that revolve around it need to really focus on it. This is akin to you just making the distance to your goal greater and greater, but being so busy doing it that you really can't afford to think of a way to keep advancing towards your opponent's. When this happens there are only two possible outcomes: Your opponents will eventually be able to reach your goal or they won't. In the latter case, it'll just be indefinitely extended and might even turn into a deck-out strategy instead... which is sad.

With that said, LP can only really ever serve as a general support strategy on top of what your main strategy might be. This card asks for a huge minus play to gain some Life. It really doesn't help anything else, in fact, a Token Deck would rather keep tokens or use them for one of this card's counterparts, and a LP gain deck wouldn't rely in a Normal Spell that's neither recyclable or searchable. Then if it increased more LP to make up for the fact that it is more likely to cover-up for more damage than what the heal is gonna help with, it'd become questionably high. Ideally cards are designed in a way that allows duels to last a certain amount of time factoring in resistance and whatnot. Even if a -2, after a certain amount of gain it becomes unfair to just essentially multiply a player's starting life.
