Best Gundam show to start with?

depends. I would say the original so that you know where it all started. That said, the animation is ancient so if that's a turn off, try wing or x, which are newer (1995-1996). if that's still too old for you, 00 is your best bet because its the only post-2000 gundam that isnt bad. Zeta and the OVAs are the best, but in order to enjoy those completely you'll need to watch the original series.

She's just cuter, sorry. :P

 

As for rps, thats actually a really hard question, since i've made a decent few of them and most never went anywhere and were probably terrible. If i had to say, i think either Exiles or Synchro Frame would be my most successful. Exiles becuse everyone who's ever seen it loves the concept, and SF because its actually the farthest I've ever gotten one to run.

 

As for my absolute favorite Rp i've done, I think SF probably wins since its literally my own love letter to mecha in RP form, as dumb as that sounds.

In general, top 5 giant robots?

oh dear this one's going to take a bit..,....

 

1. Wing Gundam Zero's Hajime Katoki redesign. Literally the robot that got me to become a mecha fan.

2. Gundam X. Just.. I really love the way this thing looks. couldn't tell you why.

3. White Glint. Stupid sexy looking, this one. Helps that its basically an infinity + 1 sword in the game its from, too.

4. Shin Getter Robo. Can cut moons in half for fun, has battleaxe, 'nuff said.

5. ARX-8 Leyvatein. Really like the combination of realistic and awesome FMP designs have. ARX-8 just happens to be the best from that series.

 

There's probs a lot more im forgetting about and this list is bound to change on the regular, though.

Top 5 Real Robot and top 5 Super Robot shows?

Much easier to do.

 

Real robot:

1. Gundam 0083/Gundam wing Endless Waltz. Its a tie, i know, but gundam is my favorite and they're my favorite gundam series, so.

2. Zeta Gundam/Gundam Unicorn. Another tie... I like Zeta just a little less than the above two, but Zeta's so good it deserves to be on the list. Same with unicorn.

3. Full Metal Panic!. Lots of love for this show, mostly because its the best medicine for when i'm feeling down. Also he mecha designs are baller and Tessa is my waifu.

4. Broken Blade. Fantasy real robot anime with excellent characterization and gorgeous animation? sold and sold. Manga's even better actually.

5. Super Dimension Century Orguss. God damn, do i love orguss's premise and themes. quite the tearjerker this one.

 

Super Robot:

1. G Gundam. Maybe nostalgia goggles, but f*** it G Gundam is the best.

2. Getter Robo Armageddon. Without a doubt the most balls out, over the top anime i've ever watched. The action is great and it feels like the perfect finale to the franchise (though it turned out not to be but whatever). And for the record, TTGL wishes it was this cool.

3. Gunbuster. Gunbuster's got heart and soul (and is one of the 4 shows that has ever made me cry) and it perfectly encapsulates the genre as a whole in 6 episodes. It may very well be the best super robot show ever made, actually.

4. Shin Mazinger/Mazinkaiser/Mazinkaiser SKL. All of the recentish mazinger revival shows are really awesome and really metal. Can't quite say one is better than the others, though Shin mazinger is the most high quality and critically acclaimed of the three.

5. RahXephon. My main rebuttal to people's assumption that the reason i dislike evangelion is because i "Don't get it". RahXephon is Eva "done right" in my opinion, with many of the same themes and undertones, though without the stupid Freudian psychology bullshit and it isn't nearly as needlessly brutal or fetishizing to its cast of characters. Also the mechs sing.

 

As a side note, i really really love Dai-Guard, but didn't include it in either list because its whole schtick is that it straddles both genres. I guess consider it both lists' number 6.
