This is a battle between Western and Easter dragon, it seems.

There's correlations between both of them, as far as Bulbapedia is concerned (mentions both in the Trivia).

 

But Rayquaza gets my vote here.

Put another way, you can treat this match as a regional superiority one; is Kanto the superior region or is it Hoenn?

A lot of people here don't like legendaries, so probably a reason.

Looking at a lot of the voter records, certain people have shown to vote against the legends at every possible opportunity they appear.

 

But it's their opinion; not much you can do about it.

If people really want Dragonite, just gotta let the community decide that.

 

Both are good on their own merits though.

I like Rayquaza design better than Dragonite's (I remember hating the whole Lv 55 evolution), although I'm not the biggest fan of the Mega of Rayquaza.

OT: I now bear way more resentment towards Rayquaza than Dragonite, but I wouldn't like to see either of these win really.

Technically Polls is dead for the most, so posting tons of these tournament threads isn't a problem if it does anything to promote activity in there. If there were a problem with them, one of the other mods would've probably told me to cut back on posting them.

 

Then again, we get anime popularity contests as well; this really is no different. Also why round 1 was 32 4P fights instead of 64 1v1s; even if it would be simpler to manage.

If both of them are tied at the end of this, going to declare Dragonite/Rayquaza first place winners; and then Feraligatr/Houndoom's match will be 2nd and 3rd, respectively (based on results)

As the dust clears over the final battle, it appears that the sky dragon god, better known as Rayquaza, triumphed over Dragonite (and Lance's dreams) in a 11-9 win.

 

In essence, Rayquaza is the YCM Grand Pokemon Tournament champion.

Dragonite is the runner-up.

 

Was the ORAS hype one reason for Rayquaza's victory, or was there more prominent reasons?

Either way, the dragons take the top two places.
