Darj
Link to the official page: http://www.supermariobrosx.org/ Basically it is a program/game that lets you play custom Mario levels AND make your own. Has anyone else tried it? I found it about 3~4 years ago but I just noticed that a new version has been recently released and decided to make a thread about it. The version I played only had 1 world, or "episodes" as they are called in the main page, and from what I can remember most of the levels were well made, interesting and had fun clearing them, although a few of them were a bit too silly. The latest version comes with a 2nd episode that I have yet to try. Plus you can download levels or episodes made by other players for more fun. Regarding the "make your own Mario level" part of the game, I must say the possibilities are virtually endless: it comes with a lot of tiles, enemies, mechanics, etc. to work with, from multiple Mario games and even other franchises such as Zelda or Metroid; also you can take stuff from levels in the game itself or made by other players, or make your own. The level editor is not that difficult to use. Some mechanics such as doors/warps and "layers" for emulating moving platforms are a bit complicated to understand a first but once you figure them out things become simpler. And if you are not feeling like making a level from scratch, you can pick an existing level and start from there. So far I have made 2 levels, but I consider only 1 of them finished and if the new version brings more interesting stuff to play with, I may make couple of changes. Also I was working on a Boss Rush level, but it still needs a lot of work and it is nowhere near as good as other Boss games made by other players. If you want a taste of the upcoming "Mario Maker", I guess you could try this out, but I doubt the official game will be as versatile as this fan-made game. Also if you are interested, we could share each other's levels for fun and feedback. Discuss.
