You don't get any to start off with, and have to earn them by doing good deeds and being an all around friendly person. As other members see this, they will award You with Reps. Also, to avoid double posting, there's a little button on the bottom right hand corner of Your post labeled "Edit" its a handy way to fix up a post without double posting.
