You have to go to the Local Trading Centers

You can collect special rocks and give them to the rock collector to see if their fake or not you might get an item for the trade.

Acorns

find acorns and go to the Poke ball maker in Case town

Shards

Trade shards for pokemon.

Or make Stone out of them.

Region Boat

there's a region boat. once you collect badges and beat the elite 4 you can move to the next region like Kanto region and get your other badges.

Stones

Evoultion Stones you can make out of shards or find them some special rocks can be turned into a new kind of stone.

Fossils

May be bought off from the scientest for Shards.
