Super Smash Bros 3DS/Wii U Metagame Discussion (1 day until game comes out)

So I know there's a SSB 3DS and Wii U thread already. But I figured this was a bit necessary. What is it? It's a topic about the more competitive, techy side of SSB that not EVERYONE is interested in.

The other thread seems to me like a general discussion thread, and so I felt that it'd look a little out of place to have metagame stuff in there, since some might not get it. But this thread provides that: a hangout and discussion site for those YCMers that like the competitive smash scene, or even if you just like to improve your SSB skills.

Feel free to discuss possible character 'tiers' or techs and strategies you might have found out from the game. Most of us, if not all, have already played the demo, and the game comes out tomorrow, so figured: why not right?

XD

So far we got

Link
Mario
Pikachu
Villager
Megaman

I certainly feel Link has the potential to be mid to high tier, with VERY strong damage output, as well as resistance and survivability. His B-up is, sadly, not that good of a recovery move, but his ability to switch betweenlong range and short range easily can be really great. Especially since he's agile again.

Mario...well, he's Mario. Mid tier, I'd say. =P

Pikachu......eh, mid-tier? He hasnt changed much, except his thunder, and I guess he can be annoying if you know how to use him.

Villager, to me, can be AMAZING at doubles, and actually pretty good in singles XP His turnip and neutral air attack are both surprisingly good, and his absolutely unfair recovery distance makes him able to chase down opponents better than any non-flying unit, without fear.

Megaman...hard to say. I suck with him. But I DO see a lot of potential with him XP Especially the lemon-shooter.

What do you guys think? =P

Oh and if you think this thread was completely unnecessary, please let me know as well~ XD

Ganondorf was decent in Melee and bottom in Brawl. Given he still has his current moveset, he is most likely not going to be at the top, though a change in physics as well as his increased speed overall (plus the fact his fair isn't miscoded this time) are good signs. Don't forget that he can't be gimped nearly as easily due to improved recovery and new ledge mechanics in tandem with the Rage effect, which benefits heavier characters more. His ftilt also comes out incredibly fast and can KO DeDeDe in the lower 100s. I saw Zero 3HKO a Ness from 0% as Ganondorf, too.

I did just say he would be harder to gimp because of new ledge mechanics. The average recovery has been buffed pretty significantly from Brawl so that what is most important in 4's metagame is off-stage fighting. That's why Ike is probably going to be lower this game while characters like Sheik and ZSS are among the better ones.

In terms of Ganondorf, his dair has actually been nerfed in damage. It's still very useful for an off-stage spike, but very slightly less for damage buildup early in an enemy's stock.

I mean, it's the sort of move that makes you not even scream when it hits you.

I hope it's still just as fearsome.

Also wasn't Shiek always good? XD

I will say though, you're right. Especially since ledge-guarding has become much easier, off-stage fighting will be very important in this game. It's also very fun.
