Nathanael D. Striker
Rules 1. All Leaderboard and Tournament Rules Apply 2. First to 3 votes or most by 11:59 pm Pacific Time on September 12th wins. 3. Votes must have a valid reason. 4. Winner gets 1 Rep from loser. 5. I have the right to add rules. Card Requirement Create a card that has an effect that in some way deals the turn count. Card A According to the turn count, this card cannot be destroyed by the following types of cards (the turn this card is Summoned counts as the 1st turn): 1st: Normal Trap Cards. 2nd: Monster Cards (either by battle of Effect monsters' effects). 3rd: Spell Cards. During the End Phase of the 3rd turn; Reset the turn count. Card B Pendulum Effect: Reveal 1 other Spellcaster-Type monster in your hand to activate this card. When this card is activated: Place a number of Spell Counters on face-up cards equal to the turn count. Spellcaster-Type monsters you control gain 100 ATK for each Spell Counter on this card. Monster Effect: When this card is Normal Summoned: Banish 1 Spellcaster-Type monster from your Deck, except “Chronomancer Magician”. During your next Standby Phase after this effect’s activation, add that card to your hand.
Creates a choice that the player must make between waiting to get the powerful Pendulum Effect which can be crucial to Spell Counter based combos, or conducting a delayed search a la Gold Sarcophagus in preparation for their immediate next turn. The Pendulum Effect can only really effectively be activated once even if you have multiple "Chronomancer Magician", as it just stays in the right Pendulum Zone, although you have the choice to lock your Pendulum Summons if you also place one in your left. The other option, of course, would be to use up resources to destroy it, and place your other one.
Darj
Card A: It looks unreliable with its immunity swapping. Also it doesn't generate any advantage nor contributes anything to the deck it is being run because it is a mere Level-4 beater with an immunity effect that is difficult to manipulate to your advantage. The only thing going for it is that it is immune to cards such as Bottomless or Torrential during the turn it is Summoned, but after that, you can't know how long it will survive because you don't know what kind of cards the opponent has at hand. Card B: It looks solid. Generating a good amount of counters in mid and late game would be welcomed on decks that use them; even after turn 4 the card should become decent in my opinion. And if you draw it early game when it wouldn't generate enough counters, or you don't have cards that use them, it gives you the choice of Normal Summoning it for the Gold Sarc/ROTA effect. However, the searching effect seems a bit dangerous as a ROTA for Spellcasters that a Level limit. I really don't get how you wouldn't be able activate the Pendulum effect twice: you can place 2 copies on both Pendulum Zones. Granted, they would lock your scales, but if you are using the card for the Spell Counters chances are you won't care about Pendulum Summoning. I vote for Card B. The ROTA effect without a Level restriction may be questionable, but aside of that the card looks great.
LeLukeX
I'm relatively new to these contests... But are we supposed to pick which card is BETTER or BETTER-DESIGNED. The pendulum is clearly much better, but OP. Bizarre Wizard is better designed, well, closer it's under-powered (shouldn't have reset count). The pendulum has a Pen Scale of friggin' 8!!! Anything 8 and above have some sort of restriction. There is only one Scale 7 and that has no effects (Normal Monster with no Pen effect). So clearly too OP in compared to current Pen. In addition, the effects are very good. Can I vote neither? Card A has the reset count which makes me want to throw it away. Card B is too good I'd refuse to support such OP-ness. Darj
I believe you must vote for the better-designed card. Normally you can vote for neither (Card C), but since this 1-on-1 is part of a contest I don't know if votes for Card C are allowed, because I guess a winner is needed to proceed to the next round. I feel this guy has 0 grasp on balance if he considers Card A OPed. His reasoning is also extremely unclear (simply screaming OPed does not validate a vote), and he has missed the fact that Card B can only be effectively used in Spellcaster-based Decks, it is not generic as he seems to imply it is.
