Give me this PSD you Smernugget.

 

This is your best piece to date. The flow, depth, light are all executed nicely. The colors, which are always your issue are the best thing about this. It allows for the render to be blended in nicely to the piece without affecting the realism of the color, so it doesn't look artificial.

Your gradient map is too strong and the light source is too bright for how dark the the purple parts are. Try not to brush black over fractal/light sources because they end up grayish which comes off very fake.

 

But if you do nothing else, lighten up on your gradient map opacity. It should make your colors look less forced and more natural.
