Its really good that you're exploring new styles, but these tags, whilst slight steps in the right direction, aren't of the quality I feel I'm used to from you. Tagging with new styles with no true inspiration in mind produces stuff that's either too simple or too complicated, so you should look to incorporate simplified versions of details and ideas you liked elsewhere.

The first tag's forced lightning takes away from the color scheme and the tag seems kinda lackluster in that it doesn't have that wow effect. Second is a bit better on the basics but the liquify doesn't help make use of the render flow and again its very average, very empty/bland.

Not a fan of the first ones at all. In general, just seems all a bit amateur.

Second one is closer, knowing that it's simply a simplification of your standard style. I feel like that's the correct thing to do. Of anything Ali said, it needs to be more a condensation, perfection of your standard style. I think you benefit more from an empty canvas compared to Smear, so learning not to add excess elements and reducing it to the vital would be a nice exercise (see: why is there a random bubble C4D in this tag here?) and making sure those are executed perfectly.

That kanji is wrong for banzai.

 

Banzai is 万歳

 

That kanji is for じゆう which means freedom. 

 

Otherwise, I love them.

I know, I was suggesting sometimes the usage of "banzai" is only a way to lead to freedom but thanks :P
