Yu-Gi-Oh!: Forbidden Memories (PG-13)

So this is my first time writing something like this, so I thought I'd start with something based on one of my favorite Yu-Gi-Oh! games, Forbidden Memories. I love this game, it puts a very interesting spin on what the game is usually like, though I will make a few small changes to some things where needed, just to make it make a bit more sense. So far I've only got the Prologue written, by I will add more soon. Sorry for the Prologue being pretty short, but I'm trying to follow the game's story as much as possible, so I only had a short scene to go off of for the Prologue. I hope you all like it! Also, I'd like to use spoilers for this, but for some reason they aren't working for me, so until I can get this solved, I'll just have to make do without them.

Prologue:

Footsteps echo through the halls of the empty tomb. A tall man, draped in royal purple robes walks throughout the tomb, the only light in the long hallway being casted by a torch held by the man. His long purple cloak flows behind him as he walks. The man wore the tall, purple hat that would be worn by a high priest. His round earrings jingled slightly as he walked. His face was long and narrow, with sunken in, soul-piercing eyes. He had a fairly large, well-groomed beard, which emanated from his sideburns, going down and around his chin and up around his lips, a large, purple and silver postiche hangs off the end of his chin.

He continued walking through the tomb halls until he came up to a large, open room. The room seemed almost shrine-like, obviously dedicated to a specific purpose. Hieroglyphs lined all of the walls, depicting many things. War and peace. Gods and demons. Creation and destruction. But, one area of the Hieroglyphs caught his eye in particular. He walked up to the wall, holding the torch up to it to examine them for closely. The man spoke with a voice that was both eloquent and snake-like, "This is it. I've found it at long last, after years of searching. The forbidden treasure of the Ancient Sorcerers." He placed his hand on the wall, deeply gazing at the ancient Hieroglyphs he had discovered. He let out a small chuckle, "Soon I shall acquire my rightful position on the throne." He dragged his hand slowly down the wall, shuddering from excitement, letting out another chuckle. His chuckling quickly turned into loud, booming laughter.

Yu-Gi-Oh!: Forbidden Memories

Chapter 1- Friends and Rivals

"My dear prince, are you going to the city to play cards again!?" I know that voice, Prince Atem thought to himself, stopping in his tracks. He had been just been walking out of the Pharaoh's Palace, getting to the large staircase that led into the city before his mentor, Simon Muran stopped him. Atem turned around to face him. Simon was a short, stout man, dressed in white robes and a tall cap, bearing a gold cobra and the Eye of Anubis on the front of it. A long piece of cloth hung off the front of his cap, connected at the edges, covering all of his face except for his large blue eyes. In addition, he carried a purple and yellow, striped cane.

"You are of royal blood! To think that you'd walk the city streets dressed as a commoner...have you no shame!? Quite frankly, I'm embarrassed." Simon's works were painful for Atem to listen to, for he had nothing but the upmost respect for him. Simon had spent his entire life serving him, tutoring him, he had even taught Atem how to duel.

"Your father, the Pharaoh, is getting quite worried about your recent activities. You've been leaving to go into the city almost every day, now!"

"Simon, you don't understand," Atem finally said quietly.

"What don't I understand?" Simon replied.

"I've made friends, Simon," Atem began, "Real friends. Not just people that are getting close to me because I'm a prince, in fact, they don't even know that I'm the heir to the throne."

"My prince, I can understand that you want to be with your friends, but the city is a dangerous place. I'm only trying to protect you, my prince."

"I'm sorry, Simon," Atem muttered to himself as he turned on his heel and ran down the large staircase, into the city.

"No, wait! Stop my prince!" But it was too late, Atem was gone. "Damn it all, he's gone."

Atem stopped running once he had reached the city, walking calmly throughout it. The streets were filled with people, as today a festival was being held for the Gods. He continued walk, stopping at a small, stone building near the center of the town. This building was the Dueling Grounds, where people would come to improve their skill, trade cards, or just talk with other duelists. He walked into the building, being greeted by a girl about his age, "I've been waiting for you, Atem." She had short, brown hair, and wore a pink and white gown, this was Teana.

Teana.jpg

"You were waiting for me?" Atem asked.

"Yeah, Jono was waiting here for a bit, too, but you know him."

"He couldn't wait to get to the festival and ran off, didn't he?"

Teana nodded, "He'll be back soon. He said he was just going to go check out what the festival was all about and then come back, so how about a duel while we wait?"

"A duel? Sounds great."

"Okay, let's duel! Hope you aren't a sore loser!" She said jokingly.

Atem and Teana made their way to the large table in the center of the building, each standing at one end. Atem pulled out his deck of cards at shuffled it, sitting it near the back-right corner, Teana doing the same on her side. A duel was a battle between two people, using their card decks, each card was crafted with magic, containing the soul of an actual creature inside of it, only someone with great magical powers could actually bring the souls out of the cards to do battle, so to most people, only a partial soul, in the shape of an bright orb would hover above the card in a regular, friendly battle. Each player draws five cards at the beginning, and based on how many cards they used during their turn, that is how many cards they would get to draw from their deck during their next turn. To activate the powers of the cards, both players would need to draw their five cards and say the ancient word "Duel."

Atem drew his five-card hand from his deck, as did Teana, they looked each other in the eyes and spoke at the same time, "Duel!"

(Teana-4000/Atem-4000)

The cards in their hands and decks glowed faint blue light for about five seconds before returning to their regular color.

"You can have the first move," Atem said from his side of the table.

"Alright, I'll select these two cards from my hand, they aren't compatible, so I'll discard the first one and Summon the second one in Facedown Defense Position."

Teana put the one card from her hand into the Graveyard, right in front of the deck, she then took the second one and placed it onto the table sideways, the card back pointed up.

"Your move, Atem."

"Alright, I Summon Megirus Light (900/600) in Attack Mode!"

Atem played the card onto the table, face up, pointed toward Teana. As Atem called the name of the card, a pale-blue, smoking orb of light slowly floated up, out of the card.

"Now, Megirus Light, attack her facedown Monster!"

The orb that was hovering over Atem's Megirus Light card shot forward, speeding towards Teana's facedown card. Right as it got to where her card was, a bright light flashed, knocking the orb back.

"Sorry, Atem, but you attacked my Hard Armor!"

She took the facedown card and flipped it face up, smiling happily as she spoke,

"Hard Armor (300/1200) has 1200 Defense Points, much more than that your Megirus Light, meaning you lose 300 Life Points."

(Teana-4000/Atem-3700)

"Alright, I end my turn."

Teana placed her hand on her deck, drawing her cards, "Because I used two cards last turn, I get to draw two cards this turn." She looked at her hand, deciding what card she should use.

"I summon Moon Envoy (1100/1000) in Attack Mode"

She slapped the card onto the table, a pale-blue orb floating above it.

"Now, I'll switch my Hard Armor into Attack Mode, and attack your Megirus Light with my Moon Envoy!"

The orb above Moon Envoy shot forward, hitting into other orb above Megirus Light. Megirus Light's orb dispersed into a small mist before being absorbed back into the card.

"Hard Armor, attack his Life Points directly!"

The orb over Hard Armor shot forward, hitting into Atem, going through him, and then coming back to its regular position over its own card.

(Teana-4000/Atem-3200)

"Alright, I draw one card." Atem said, picking one card off the top of his deck. A large grin came over his face as he picked up two cards from his hand.

"I bind the souls of my Rainbow Flower (400/500) and my Dancing Elf (300/200), fusing them together in order to Summon Queen of Autumn Leaves!"

"Oh no!" Teana yelped in shock.

He placed the two cards on top of each other, two orbs floating out of them. The two orbs circled around each other until they smacked together, and in a bright flash of light, a larger purple orb stood, floating above the two cards.

"Now, Queen of Autumn Leaves, attack her Hard Armor!"

The orb shot forward, going through the orb above the Hard Armor card, causing the orb to disperse into a mist as the purple orb returned to its original place.

(Teana-2500/Atem-3200)

"Now, I end my turn." Atem said triumphantly.

"I draw one card." Teana picked up a card from her deck.

"I set one Monster in Facedown Defense Position. I'll also switch my Moon Envoy to Defense Position and end my turn."

Teana set a card on the field facedown and turned her Moon Envoy sideways.

"I draw two cards." He said as he drew the two cards from his deck.

"I'll Summon the Celtic Guardian in Attack Mode! Celtic Guardian, attack her Moon Envoy!"

The soul orb hovering over his newly played Celtic Guardian moved forward and destroyed Moon Envoy.

"Now, Queen of Autumn Leaves, attack her facedown!"

The orb over the Queen shot forward, flipping her card up and destroying the orb above it. The card that was destroyed was Tomozaurus (500/400).

"I end my turn."

"I draw!" Teana lifted the card from her deck and laughed slightly, happy from her results.

"I activate the Magic Card, Dark Hole!"

A small vortex opened in the middle of the field, sucking all of the orbs on the field into it, destroying all Monsters.

"I'd never think that you'd have a card that rare and powerful, Teana."

"I'm full of surprises Atem." She laughed as Atem drew his next card.

"As am I."

"What?" Teana was nervous now, he had the same grin that he had when he drew the cards necessary to make Queen of Autumn Leaves, What could he have drawn, she wondered.

"And here's big surprise for you, Teana, my best card!"

"It couldn't be...!"

"It is! I Summon Seiyaryu! (2500/2300)"

He slapped the card onto the table, a bright orb floating above the card.

"Now, Seiyaryu, attack her Life Points directly and end this duel!"

Duel Ended

Winner: Atem-3200

"Aw, man, I lost. We should duel again some time when I get a little better."

"Yeah, definitely." Atem said, walking over to the door and looking outside.

"It's already dark."

"Jono should've been here by now." Teana said, worried slightly.

"Alright, let's go find him." Atem said, taking Teana by the hand and running out the door and into the town.

They stopped after they got into the center of the city, thousands of people were in the streets, enjoying the festival.

"Wow, there's a lot of people here, how are we ever going to find Jono?" Teana asked, discouraged by the amount of people.

"Well think, it's Jono, so we know there's one place he's more likely to be than anywhere else. Where do you think that place is?"

"A duel!" Teana gasped.

"Right!"

They ran around the plaza, looking anywhere for a duel, but then Teana stopped, looking at a gathering of Mages, marching toward the stone statue of Ra, God of the Sun, each carrying a flag in one hand and a candle in the other, chanting in unison.

"Look, the Mages are doing their procession! Awesome...and a little spooky. It use to be more wholesome when I was a child. It's the fault of that detestable High Priest, Heishin. Even the attitude of the Mages have changed, what is our world coming to...?"

"We should just look for Jono." Atem said.

"Yeah, you're right."

They took off again, searching for Jono.

"There!" Teana pointed, and there, sitting at a table with a shocked expression on his face, was Jono. He was wearing a white tunic and had a large pile of unruly blonde hair atop his head.

"I-I lost!? I can't believe it!" Jono said, half sad, half angry.

"Well it played out just like I said it would, didn't I? I told you never stood a chance against me." The man he was dueling had a voice that calm, yet cocky and arrogant. He chuckled to himself,

"The fact of the matter is, you're just a bad duelist, even without comparing you to myself."

"Grr, I dare you to say that aga-"

"Jono, hey!" Teana called to him, running up to him with Atem.

"Huh? Teana, Atem?"

"We were worried about you, Jono, you didn't come back."

"Oh yeah, sorry about that. I just got caught up in a duel with this joker." Jono said as he pointed to the man he was dueling.

The man stood up, turning so that Atem and Teana could see his face. He had calm eyes, the kind of eyes that you could just tell had ambitions behind them, eyes that assessed every situation before acting. He had a sharp grin to accompany those eyes, he also wore the purple hat of a priest.

"Well this 'joker' just beat you in three turns," he held up three of his fingers, grinning at Jono.

"Don't be so blunt! You didn't 'beat' me, I just...I had a setback is all!"

"Oh ho! A 'setback,' face it, you couldn't beat me in a millennium"

"I'm warning you! Insult me one more time!" Jono yelled angrily, gritting his teeth, a fist raised.

"I grow weary of this insect, is there not one among you that is worthy of my time?" he said casually, brushing Jono to the side and stepping forward.

"Atem, why don't you duel him? You're the greatest duelist that I've ever seen." Teana said, smiling.

"Yeah, Atem, you should duel him, I bet you could beat him!" Jono chimed in.

"Me? You think I should duel him?" Atem asked, he knew he was okay at the game, but he definitely wasn't the best.

"So Atem is your name? Hm, that name seems familiar somehow...Anyways, I am Seto, a High Mage and High Priest Heishin's dueling prodigy. These two seem to build you up to be quite the duelist. What do you say, how about a game?"

"I guess I'll accept, then. Let's duel!"

"I do hope that you're at least better than that insect over there," he chuckled, pointing at Jono.

Then, a voice came from behind, "Master Seto! Master Heishin calls for you!"

"I see..." Seto said, turned to the Low Mage who had called him. He turned back toward Atem.

"It seems that we'll have to postpone our duel. Am I correct in assuming that you frequent the town's Duel Field?"

"That's right," Atem answered.

"Wait for me there. I shall grace you all with my presence later tonight. Until then," he turned and walked off with the Low Mage.

"Can you believe that guy!? A Mage with attitude!" Jono yelled.

"Yeah, a real 'charmer' that one." Teana muttered.

"Alright, well let's look around for a bit and then head to the Duel Field." Jono suggested.

"Right."
