Tentacruel
Google it. They're shutting down entirely. Much sad, discuss.

Legend Zero
Once again lazy journalist don't fact check. You would think it would be kinda a pre-req to know a little Japanese in order to cover Japanese business/anything related to people talking. Zeppeli Gyro Supreme
For those too lazy to read, they're just taking a pause, not stopping production entirely. In the first place we knew they weren't entirely shutting down because they already had a series in the works, albeit not a traditionally animated movie. Dr. Cakey
To give a little background to the bullshit: The story of Ghibli closing originated on Tumblr. For the first couple hours, my Twitter feed was stuffed with people - more than a few of them journalists - asking one another if there was confirmation. There wasn't. I saw a retweet of someone saying Multiple Reliable Sources In Japan saying Ghibli was closing. I think the first major website to publish this information as news was Kotaku, which was probably the justification a lot of other sites were waiting for to drop the same news. I think it's worth noting that Anime News Network was one of the last sites to weigh in on the subject, which I think speaks positively of their journalistic integrity. In any event, it was pointed out that while this news was making headlines (well, Internet headlines) in foreign regions, Japan had not even deigned to mention that their primary cultural export was closing shop, which was a big hint the whole thing was bullshit. Oh, also the fact that the trail of news led back to somebody's Tumblr. That was kind of a hint, too.
