Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works (2014)

I cannot contain my hype right now.

Hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype hype...

Okay, enough with the irrational hype, but this is something I've been waiting for, for like, four whole years. Yes. Yes. Yes. YES. ALL OF MY YES. TAKE ALL OF MY YES, AND THEIR CHILDREN TOO.

For those of you who aren't really sure what this anime is, it's an adaptation of the visual novel of same name by Ufotable, a sequel to the anime Fate/Zero (which you may want to watch before this one), and will be based on the Unlimited Blade Works route:

「Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works」 PV

It will be a split cour with the first half starting on October 4, 2014, and the second half airing in Spring 2015. The scenario follows the Unlimited Blade Works route from the game. The opening theme song will be sung by a new artist named Mashiro Ayane, and the ending theme song will be sung by Yuki Kajiura Kalafina.

There will also be a movie based on the Heaven's Feel route. If you want to see the PV for it too, it's here~

To be honest, I kinda would've preferred an original route with elements from all three, but this works too. At the very least, it's faster than adapting all three routes into separate, parallel series, since we'd be able to get both the series and the movie at around the same time. It also in a way respects the DEEN 2006 adaptation of the original Fate route, which I thought was actually quite amazing when I first watched it, and even now it's decent enough that it would be rude to have another studio grind it to dust.

Of course, if you haven't watched Fate/Zero yet, here's a recommendation: don't watch that, and wait for this remake to come out instead, since F/Z was written to be watched after F/SN.

Though, two things do worry me. One - while UBW is perfect, it does neither Saber nor Kotomine Kirei and especially not Illyasviel von Einzbern justice. And two - can Heaven's Feel, with all its content, really be condensed into a movie? Or will it become as incoherent as the DEEN UBW movie?

...Even so, since this is Ufotable and Type-Moon we're talking about here, I'm sure they'll figure something out.

The Fate/stay night anime series comes out in Fall. As for the movie, presumably not too long afterwards.

Much excited
so hype

Just October?

Holy fruit loops, Lancer!

AND IT'S BASED ON THE HEAVENS FEEL ROUTE!? AKMFSCKCMSKCSK

You know how much I love F/SN?

Heavens Feel ruined me for life, especially the last neutral ending... Sakura <3... and kind of </3, cause you know reasons...

Finally Fate Stay Night won't be a smudge on the legacy of Fate any more and be cast into the league with Fate/Zero's perfectness.

Give me a minute...

...

...

...Yeah, any excitement I had went right out the window. I would have been moderately interested in a Heaven's Feel adaptation, and solidly interested in a new story (which they'd originally indicated was what they'd be doing), but an Unlimited Blade Works adaptation? Really? Why? There was already an Unlimited Blade Works movie, why do we need it again?

Hopefully it'll be worth making fun of, at least.

We're getting both UBW(as a two split-cours series) and HF(as a movie, or potentially multiple), so no reason to not be happy.

Finally people can't complain when they'd rather do F/Z before F/SN.

A movie isn't as meaningful to me, since it probably won't be streamed, and because if even the smallest scene is cut people who've read the VN will say it wasn't as good as the VN and I can't really say I didn't like it until I read the VN. But I guess those are personal complaints, not serious ones, although I still don't see why we need a second UBW adaptation (third if you count the manga). To be honest, I was really only interested in seeing an original story.

You know, after a bit of thought, it's possible that Ufotable will make multiple movies for Heaven's Feel. Which, if so, would really help a lot.

Well, the movie didn't do it properly. Even if it had more solid animation, it just sort of glossed over everything without making the point clear at all. It has a lot of content that could - and should - be spread out throughout a whole anime series. I kinda wish they'd focus on Heaven's Feel more myself, but honestly, UBW is the route most fans like.

There's been real speculation the HF movie will be like Kara no Kyoukai, so it really might be multiple movies. That also means no censorship(AKA no CGI dragons when Shirou and Sakura f***) and whatever other content that would've been untasteful to show on a TV run.

And let's be fair. It could've been worse. It could've been Fate all over again. I'm still crying cuz of no Ilya route but I'll live with it

Ah er, as for my ingame hours(Sure no one's asked but)

I lose by like, two hours but no biggie. ;_;

I've been wanting to get into Fate/whatever. This looks interesting, but I think I'd rather play the novels someday.

But it's soooo good.  Some of the best animation today.

The novels are still good I'm sure, but they are still

Also animated fight scenes.

I read the VN. There was nothing cut that needed to be kept in. Hell, they probably didn't cut enough.

And I'm no expert, but I thought the ironclad rule was that Heaven's Feel was the best. Or is that just a case of fans moving the goalposts.

To me, indeed, Heaven's Feel is the best. I mean, it has all KINDS of badass things! What's not to like about it?!

However, if you've actually been paying attention to the many discussions of the Nasu fandom, apparently most wanted an Unlimited Blade Works adaptation. And in terms of popular route, apparently UBW is more favoured than HF.

Honestly I'm a little surprised myself, since the three most likely options Ufotable would've gone with were:

 • An original route that follows the mood of Fate/Zero
 • A direct adaptation of all three routes.
 • A Heaven's Feel adaptation.

Certainly wasn't expecting them to really go for UBW whilst skipping Fate at the same time.

I think the main reason a lot don't like Heaven's Feel is because of how it revolves around the 'whiney' Matou Sakura, though for me, that only makes me love it more. I can find parallels between Sakura and PTSD victims, so that helps. Could also be how it departs from the Holy Grail War, since HF isn't really a battle royale when you think about it.

Bumping this since it'll be airing very, very soon now~

So, Episode 0 (yep) of the new F/SN anime by Ufotable will be airing this Saturday, and it'll be a one-hour-long episode focusing on Rin's POV of the first three days. A week afterwards on the 11th, Episode 1 (also one hour long) will air focusing on Shirou's POV instead. After that, episodes should start being thirty minutes in length.

I cannot contain my hype I cannot contain my hype, I cannot contain my hype-

E- erm, okay, I have to admit that that was even better than I expected.

If that's even possible. Still can't believe how absolutely epic that was. I feel so unbelievably light right now, and I have been for the past twenty-three and a half hours ever since it aired.

I mean, that... That was such an amazing episode. Animation and soundtrack, faithfulness to the source material - and that battle scene, man. That freaking Archer vs Lancer battle scene. That was like, the LEAST noteworthy Servant battle in all of F/SN, and they made it that awesome? How is that even possible? And how will I be able to survive the battles to come?!

As for the story, as this is still the prologue, it's currently focusing on establishing the setting and the characters, and IMO it's doing it way better than Fate/Zero did. Hence, it should pick up after a few episodes~

A little confused, maybe a person more in-depth would know. Is that really Rin's entire reason? I feel like the reason was Sakura or restoring her family.

Best part besides fight scene is it was following Rin.

Well, her father, whom she was quite attached to, participated in the previous Holy Grail War, and he lost/died.

Well, Sakura is partially the reason, since Rin doesn't want to see her be hurt in any way.
Rin already knows about Shirou due to a certain minor event she saw him stubbornly doing over and over again around five years ago, which inspired her.

Episode 0 was pretty great. Don't know what to think about the new Archer, but at least Saber's not the protagonist's Servant again. Makes for a refreshing new show.

I thought Shirou was still the protagonist and this was just showing the prologue from Fate/Stay Night which I do remember to be from Rin's POV.
