Deucalion
They'll lengthen, given time. At the moment they are mostly short because there are no battles yet, but from, well, the next Chapter onwards size will increase quite a lot. Deucalion
Chapter 5: The First Blood Corve sat back, somewhat relieved. He had an... interesting phone call from his niece. She had begged him to sponsor her in the upcoming duel tournament. Of course, he'd been delighted to say yes. Hopefully that meant she wouldn't be around when the Overseers came for that slave boy, the artist. Of course, he wouldn't tell her outright. Corve Corone was not a person to risk his business on something as, well, sentimental as family. He'd never really liked his sister anyway, so he considered himself rather noble for looking after her daughter. He sat back in his luxurious chair, and absent-mindedly toyed around with an empty wine-glass. All these shady deals with the Patrician were almost over, and, he had to admit, for all the downsides, he'd made a sufficiently large amount of money. He smiled a gluttonous smile, and resumed his work. Money, money, money... so much to earn, so little time. *** Pica straightened up, and walked into the blackened tunnel that would lead her into the arena. The past few days had been exhausting. Argent had drilled her in the numerous and intricate art of Dueling, how to respond, and initiate, tactics and plans. Her uncle had agreed to sponsor her. She had managed to enter the tournament. And all without a sight of the ominous Overseers. Well, this was it. If she lost this, she'd probably die. The Overseers would come sooner or later. The more matches she won, the more time she'd earn, and the higher the chance the case would be solved, and she wouldn't have to be arrested. This match was a bet, a massive gamble. And her life was the stakes. In the beginning, there was darkness. And then... ...there was light. Pure, blinding light. Pica shut her eyes, and then blinked a few times, before opening very slightly to see a massive stage light glaring down at her. "CHALLENGER APPROACHES!" A voice, magnified to deafening levels, echoed throughout the arena. It was followed by the gradual build-up of an ear-shattering crescendo, as the crowd hollered it's appreciation. "PICA VALETH!" Pica opened her eyes fully, and almost fainted. The arena was vast. It's scale was difficult to comprehend. The crowd stretched out into the distance, each person baying for the match to begin. Her face peered out from ten gargantuan screens surrounding the arena. The announcer, a short bald man in a red coat, stood in a box hanging above the arena, suspended to the roof by a thin, pendulous chain. She walked forward to the Duelist Podium, where she would stand for this match. Her heart was beating faster and faster, and she was completely white. It all came down to this. One chance, one opportunity. She climbed the steps of the Duelist Podium, a large, blue, metal stand. At the top, there lay a Duel Disk. Slowly, hesitantly, she placed it on her arm, and the field zones slid out with a metallic scrape. She slotted her Deck into the Deck Zone, and then held up her arm, displaying the ready Duel Disk to the crowd. She was trembling very slightly, on the verge of collapse. The sheer enormity of what she was about to attempt flickered through her mind, and then, the arena was silent. "CHALLENGER APPROACHES!" The announcer cried. "GIN KORUMARU!" The stage light at the opposite end of the arena flickered on, and a silhouette, sharply outlined by the lights, walked out of the opposite tunnel. The crowd went wild once more, and several fans screamed their adoration, as the figure walked up to his Duel Podium, and activated his Duel Disk. He was quite tall, lanky, Pica would have described him, and very thin. He had rough-tousled brown hair, and the look of an athlete. He wore a simple white shirt, and black trousers, and the way he walked proclaimed his confidence. He bowed to her as he activated his Duel Disk, and then smiled. "Nice to know I'll have the pleasure of Dueling someone as good looking as you!" He called charmingly. "I'll let you start first." Pica didn't respond, and Gin briefly looked surprised. Pica couldn't focus on anything, except the unconditional fear that wracked her body. He was a professional. She was just some amateur. What chance had she? "THREE TWO ONE LET THE DUEL BEGIN!" Then, Pica reached for her cards, and...
... the nervousness melted away, leaving only determination. Turn 1.Pica: 4000 | 4000 :Gin (Pica's turn. Pica draws) Pica: "I summon Harvest Angel of Wisdom, in Attack Mode!" (Harvest Angel of Widsdom appears. 1800 ATK 1000 DEF) "Then I place two face down cards and end my turn." (Two face-down cards appear in the Spell & Trap Zone) (Gin's turn. Gin draws) Gin: "Not bad, little lady. Quite an offensive start. 1800 attack isn't bad. Now, let me introduce you to a little card that will just sweep you away. Or rather, sweep those traps away. I play Heavy Storm." (The face-down cards fly to the Graveyard in a mighty storm.) "Then, I summon Celtic Guard, in Attack Mode!" (The Celtic Guard appears, and waves its sword around nonchalantly. ATK: 1400 DEF: 1200) Pica: "Your little Elf-boy won't help much, he has a solid 400 less ATK than Harvest..." Gin: "Really sorry to contradict, but... I activate Fusion Sword Murasame Blade, and Equip it to my Celtic Guard. It increases his ATK by 800, which puts him at 2200 ATK. Say goodbye to your Fairy. Celtic Guard, attack!" (The Celtic Guard sheaths its own sword, then grabs a samurai style blade that appears out of crackling purple lightning. It then sticks its tongue at Harvest Angel of Wisdom, and charges at it. The sword slices neatly through Harvest's chest.) (Pica loses 400 Life Points from the ensuing damage) Pica: "At least Harvest contributed to one good thing." Gin: "I knew there would be a down-side... go on..." Pica: "When Harvest Angel of Wisdom is destroyed by battle, I can return one Counter Trap card from my Graveyard." (Pica quickly scans her graveyard in the Duel Disk, and picks a card.) Gin: "Oh well. You probably won't be able to Summon a monster in one turn which can stop my Celtic Guard now. Although, knowing my luck... anyway, I place one face down card, and my turn is over." (A face down cards appears in the Spell & Trap Zone) Turn 2.Pica: 3600 | 4000 :Gin Pica: "My turn." (Pica draws) Pica: "Oh..." Gin: "Need any help? You don't look that confident." Pica: "Desperate times call for desperate measures. I Summon Majestic Mech Ohka!" (Majestic Mech Ohka appears in a wave of light. ATK: 2400 DEF: 1400) Gin: "Do you want to borrow my copy of the rule book? You can't summon monsters with more than Level 4 without a Tribute." Pica: "This one you can. I also place one face-down card." (A face-down card appears in the Spell & Trap Zone) "Now, Majestic Mech Ohka, attack his Celtic Guard!" (The Celtic Guards swings his Murasame Blade, but Ohka jumps to one side, dodges, and then leaps in and bites the Guard, destroying it.) (Gin loses 200 Life Points.) Pica: Unfortunately, I also have to send Majestic Mech Ohka to the Graveyard at the end of my turn, because I didn't use a Tribute to Summon him. And now, my turn is over." (Majestic Mech Ohka explodes in a flash of light.) Gin: "Well, I knew there'd be a drawback. There always is..." "Now, my tune. And I see you are defenseless. I don't like to take advantage of a damsel in distress, but I think I'll risk it." (Gin draws) Gin: "And now, I summon Mystic Swordsman Lv2, in attack mode!" (Mystic Swordsman appears. ATK: 900 DEF: 0) "Attack her life points directly." (The Mystic Swordsman nods curtly, then leaps high into the air, and comes down with a resounding crash on Pica. As it is Hologram, it doesn't make contact, but Pica flinches, as her Life points take the hit.) (Pica loses 900 Life Points.) "Then, I end my turn." Turn 3.Pica: 2700 | 3800 :Gin Pica: "I draw." I hope it's something decent... (Pica draws) No! Why have the cards abandoned me... I'm not having any luck at all... I'll try to bluff my way out of it. Pica: "I summon Herald of Orange Light in attack mode! (The Herald of Orange Light appears. ATK: 300 DEF: 500) "And then another face-down card, then end my turn." (A face-down card appears in the Spell/Trap Zone) Pica: "Sure you want to risk it?" Gin: "Sorry, little lady, but that I think you are bluffing." (Gin draws) "I place one face-down card." (A face-down card appears in the Spell & Trap Zone) "But, let me tell you a little about my Mystic Swordsman Lv2. In the End Phase of a turn where my Mystic Swordsman defeats a Monster, I can Tribute him to Special Summon a Mystic Swordsman Lv4. And just so you don't get any ideas about any Traps you may have, I activate Royal Decree!" (Gin's face-down card activates) "Now, attack!" (The Mystic Swordsman bows in Gin's direction, then leaps into the air, and brings its sword straight through the Herald of Orange Light, which is destroyed.) (Pica loses 600 Life Points) "Say hello to our upgraded friend." (Mystic Swordsman Lv2 stops still, and begins to glow, then expands, becoming larger, and more powerful. Eventually, the glow fades, and Mystic Swordsman Lv4 is left on the field. ATK: 1900 DEF: 1600) "And now, I end my turn." Turn 4.Pica: 2100 | 3800 :Gin Pica: "My turn..." Oh no... I can't lose... I can't... (Pica draws) Pica: "Awesome! I activate Monster Reborn, and revive Majestic Mech Ohka! Only this time, he won't be leaving us any time soon!" Gin: "Not again..." (Majestic Mech Ohka appears, chasing a strange winged amulet, that is, Monster Reborn) Pica: "Majestic Mech Ohka, attack!" (Ohka roars, and then leaps forward, and bites Mystic Swordsman Lv 4, causing the Mystic Swordsman to shatter) (Gin takes 500 damage) "And now, I end my turn." (Gin draws) Gin: "Two can play at that game. I activate Monster Reborn, to return my Mystic Swordsman from the Graveyard!" (Mystic Swordsman Lv4 appears, guided by the Monster Reborn) Pica: "Still too weak." Gin: "Are you sure? I activate Wicked Breaking Flamberge - Baou, which increases his ATK by 500!" Oh no... he has the same attack as my Majestic Mech now..." Gin: "And I finished by summoning Command Knight, in attack mode! She's one of my favourite cards. This brave little warrior lady increases the AK of all face-up Warriors by 400, including her own!" (The Command Knight steps out of seemingly nowhere, and holds her sword high in the air. ATK: 1200 DEF: 1900) Gin: "As you can see, I now have one Monster with 2800 ATK, and one with 1600 ATK. You don't stand a chance, I'm afraid. Mystic Swordsman Lv4, attack!" (Armed with a wicked looking blade, the Sworsman cleaves Ohka's head off in a single blow.) (Pica loses 400 Life Points.) "Now Command Knight, attack directly!" (The Command Knight slowly walks forward, then, almost too quick to see, slashes at Pica.) (Pica loses 1600 Life Points) Pica: "No..." Turn 5.Pica: 100 | 3800 :Gin Chapter 5 done. *yawns* I should get some sleep, but I'll move onto Chapter 6 instead, which has major plot development. Umbra
Aw, Kish didn't get in soon enough.Anyways, the duel's good. 8000 instead of 4000 is a not very common format in a fan-fic, and it will surely make the duels longer. I've only used 8000 in one of my fan-fics, but I feel it fits better with 4000. But it's your choice.
Deucalion
Yeah, I was acually going to change that purely because of the time it would take. In fact, I'll do that now. Quick question: how realistic is the battle? A lot of fan-fics I see around here are almost always monster-centric, and there are hardly and spells/traps, just trade-offs of Monster Effects, so I tried to make this battle more spell/trap heavy, to seem realistic. Oh, and Kish will be seen later on, do not fear.
Deucalion
Chapter 6: Her Dark Materials Pica stood, shocked to the core. Gin was 3700 Life Points in the Lead. One more turn, and she would lose. And she would die. But somehow, she didn't care. The fierce joy of the duel was upon her, the feeling where the world slows down, where your senses are heightened, when you can practicaly taste the tensing atmosphere. Now she understood why competitive duelist kept playing: for this one moment, when they threw everything they had down for one more card. Yes, you understand. a voice spoke softly, then everything went black. *** Pica woke up. She was in a room, dimly lit, filled with stuff she recognised from her flat. The room felt very familiar, and comforting. At the top end of the room, there was a door. She didn't want to leave the room, but somehow, she was compelled. Come, child. She opened the door, twisting the smooth wooden handle. Outside the room, there was anarchy. Strange stairs, carved with a glowing blue stone, transcended the rules of gravity and space, curling into one another, twisting upside down, going down and ending up higher than they started. She could see other doors, all made of a solid metal, that was of a far deeper blue than the stairs. She ran up a flight of stairs, and ended up somewhere that was closer to a door. It was hard to be sure of directions in this place. She turned around, and there! There was a door behind her. She tried to open it, but then, the symbol of an eye began to shine from the door. It made her feel odd, like a toothache you get all over your body. "I tried that too. It doesn't work." A female voice, the one she had heard earlier, said from behind her, or in front of her, or beside her, or however dimensions worked in this strange place. Pica turned around, and saw... A woman. And the strange thing was, she looked exactly like Pica, just older. Pica would have guessed her to be 27. She had the same white hair, that coiled lusciously down from her head, the same purple eyes that were deep and full of emotion. She wore a brilliant red coat, that covered her front alone, and had a hole in the centre which displayed her green dress. She also had a black veil hanging from the coat to cover the lower part of her dress, over her legs. Pica thought she was beautiful. It wasn't phsyical beauty, but the way she looked at you... it was spell-binding. "Who are you?" Pica said. "What is this place?" "I do not know... I can't remember." said the woman. "There was something... and a dragon, and a sword-bearer. And then... then I woke, and you were dueling. I do know what this place is, though. The room in that wooden door is you. It is your memories. And this," she gestured at the chaotic blue expanse "these are the hallways of my memories." Pica looked. She could see many of the blue doors. And she only had one, for all her memories. This woman must be ancient. Pica knew she should be scared, or puzzled, or anything but calm, but she wasn't. This woman felt like a long-lost friend. "Why are you in my memories?" "You called me, Pica. I felt your Duel. And I responded." Pica wondered how the woman knew her name, but said nothing. The woman held Pica's hand, and then led her back to the room with the wooden door. It looked strangely out of place, something so ordinary among the abstract stairs and doors. The woman opened the door, and stepped in. Pica followed her. The woman looked at the homely items littered around the room, the looked at Pica. "You should stay here, and watch." said the woman. "Watch what?" Pica asked. "Our Duel." "What?" "Isn't that what you wanted. I shall be you, and help you in this duel." The woman turned, and started to fade. "Wait!" The woman stopped, transparent, a thin blue outline. Pica could feel herself slowly disappearing as well. "What is your name?" "I have no name I can recall, but you may call me... Yami." *** Pica opened her eyes. No time has passed, she knew that innately. She had this odd feeling, like she was floating. And then, she realised her body was moving without her. Yami was controlling her body, but Pica trusted her. Pica didn't know why. *** Gin watched the girl, waiting for her next move. She had slumped ins despair, and they both knew he would win. Then, she straightened up, and spoke, in a far more confident voice than before: "Are you ready, Gin?". Gin hadn't expected that. Her voice sounded stronger almost. "You are looking pretty confident for someone 3700 Life Points behind." he said. "That's because I trust in the cards. They won't let me down." The girl replied confidently. "Now, let's get going.
Turn 5.Pica: 100 | 3800 :Gin (Yami draws) Graceful Charity. Not bad... thought Pica, watching Yami's move from her eyes. Yami: "I activate Graceful Charity! I draw three cards, and then discard two." (Yami draws three cards, and then puts two from her previous hand in the graveyard. Then, she smiles, and looks at Gin.) Yami: "Sorry Gin, but today isn't your day. These three cards I've drawn are going to bring you down. I activate Graceful Charity! Mystic Swordsman Lv4, to me!" (The Swordsman looks at Gin, then backflips and gracefully lands on Pica's side of the field.) "Then, I play Harvest Angel of Wisdom!" (Harvest appears, wings fluttering) Gin: "Not another one..." Yami: "And finally, I play... United We Stand." It seemed to Pica that Yami said this to her. "It increases the ATK of the card it is equipped to by 800 times the number of face-up Monsters on my side of the field. I have two, Mystic Swordsman and Harvest, giving Harvest a total of 3400 ATK and 2600 DEF. Mystic Swordsman, attack the Command Knight!" (The Swordsman throws his sword, which plunges straight into the centre of the Command Knight, destroying it) (Gin loses 800 Life Points) "Now, Harvest Angel of Wisdom, attack Gin directly." Gin: "No..." (Harvest nods, flies into the air to the top of the arena, begins to glow, then crashes down onto Gin like a golden comet.) (Gin loses 3400 Life Points) Pica: 100 | 0 :Gin Gin crashed to the ground. "It can't be... I was so far in the lead..." Yami elegantly descended from the Duelist Podium, and seemed to speak to herself. "Never forget that, Pica. United We Stand." The crowd went wild, screaming its appreciation. The announcer cried, in his loudest voice: "GAME SET! PICA VALETH WINS THE DUEL!" *** Argent sat quietly at home, picking out the little details on a few cards he was working on. He held the paintbrush ever so delicately, as if it would crumble into dust at any second. He wished he had been able to watch Pica's duel, but he didn't have the money to afford a seat. Argent was feeling rather sorrowful. He was sure Pica would do well, and hopefully the crime would have been sorted out by the time she returned, but for her sake, that would have to be a long time, so he wouldn't be seeing her anytime soon. It was lonely in the flat without her. He worked on into the night, until has canvas was only lit by the dim glow of a small light on his desk. The shadows were pitch black. Not just the ordinary darkness that happens when there is no light, but the real darkness, the darkness so thick you had to wade through it, the darkness that concealed everything. Suddenly, the darkness moved. Argent whirled around. What was that? Eventually, he decided it must have been a trick of the light. Then, suddenly, the darkness moved again, and a red glow penetrated the room, in the shape of two glowing eyes. Then, an Overseer stepped out of the shadows. Argent froze. The Overseer regarded him with those two crimson slits. It was terrifying, a tall shapeless thing, covered in black armour, an impressive looking sword at it's side. From the armour, wickedly sharp spikes protruded. The creature oozed malice. It was also deadly silent. Not a sound stirred when it moved. Argent then leapt, began to run, but all too slow. The Overseer grabbed him with a taloned black claw, and dragged him into the shadows. The room was still for a few minutes. Then, the lamp flickered, and went out, leaving only the immense darkness. Umbra
Now I see why I had to change my bio. Great chapter, but I feel like the duel ended too fast. Still, the introduction of a Yami's good.
Deucalion
It was meant to be a spectacular finale to demonstrate the skill of Yami Pica. Going from 3700 Life Points down to win was quite impressive, so I thought I'd use that. I could probably lengthen it, but it would distract from the main plotline of the chapter. And yes, that's why you couldn't use an Overseer in the bio. When I said they weren't exactly companionable people, I meant they weren't actually people. At all. Deucalion
And by it doesn't exactly jump out you mean unoriginal? Well, that's because there hasn't really been enough to set it apart yet. And I have tried; as far as I'm aware there aren't any other dark futuristic plot stories, with the possible exception of dj Osiris's, which doesn't look to dark. Still, if you have any suggestions, please fire away. I prefer suggestions to criticism on its own, it allows me to see not only what I'm doing wrong, but also how I can correct it. Thanks for the comments, though. :D (Also, glad I'm getting the grammar right, as this isn't my first language.))

Yes, English isn't my first language... it's Australian! So be glad Pica isn't going crikey mate! It took a lot of restraint not to do that. Next chapter comes later today. \''/
Deucalion
Chapter 7: The Sands of Time 20 years previous to the present date... Professor Ebon Grauner wiped his sweaty brow, which was cracked and blistered from the intense heat. The sand was intolerable and unstoppable, constantly blowing his eyes. But he had to keep going. He throttled the levi-bike to a higher speed, and his assistant and the bodyguard he had been assigned by the Patrician speeded up to follow him. Grauner couldn't wait until he arrived at his destination, which wasn't much further through this desolate area. He was on the verge of the anthropological discovery of a lifetime, and this was the only opportunity he'd ever get to do it. It had been a strange turn of events. He had been an eminent historian, working in the Yellow district of the Hyper City, when the Patrician had contacted him, and invited him to study the Marble Pyramid in the Black District. Grauner had been amazed. The Black District was strictly off-limits to everyone. He leaped at the chance to see the Marble Pyramid, and soon enough, he was trudging the desert sand at the centre of the Black District, far from even the Patrician's mansion, near a rich oasis. He had seen plants, a rare occurrence in the wild normally, but here in the desert small scrub plants could be found at sparce intervals, growing without restraint! And the desert itself was amazing, this barren sandscape. Grauner felt slightly agoraphobic, no longer comforted by the heights of city skyscrapers. Here, the sky was free. Then, on the horizon, there was something... the tip of... yes! "There, we are almost there!" exclaimed Grauner excitedly. "I can see the tip of the Marble Pyramid, over in there! Soon, we will be able to conduct a proper investigation of the origins and purpose of the Marble Pyramid. This is a giant leap for anthropologists everywhere!" "Yes, that's it, it's definitely the Marble Pyramid." his aide confirmed. "It matches the co-ordinates the Patrician gave us. We will arrive shortly." Within minutes, they were at the base of the Marble Pyramid. Grauner stroked the fine quality marble that the Pyramid was made of. Even in the intense desert heat, it retained a cooling effect, and was smooth, despite years of scratching by sand-laden winds. He looked upwards, at the pinnacle of the Pyramid. It was quite small, compare to the Ancient Pyramids, yet it was still amazing. Grauner took out a picture codem, to take photos of the Pyramid. Suddenly, the bodyguard snatched the codem out of his hands, then crushed it beneath his sand-shoes. "What are you doing! That was-" "No photos. Sable Patrician's orders." The bodyguard replied, his eyes hidden between the black sunglasses, but a frown still set in his weather-tanned face. Grauner was outraged. "This is just an ordinary scientific expedition! What do you think we'd use photos of this for, anyway?" Its a-" "No photos." The guard put deep emphasis on the word no, and Grauner didn't reply. Just then, Grauner's aide ran round from one of the Pyramid's four corners, his face flushed with excitement. "Prof., there is an entrance on the north-facing side of the Pyramid. Come look! The door is carved with amazing pictures." Grauner hurried round, filled with glee. The Marble Pyramid was an oddity, and the fact it was in the Black District, and therefore forbidden to all except the Patrician and his cohorts, aided in that, as no-one had been able to conduct research for almost 400 years now, since the election of the first Patrician. The Pyramid was just over 1000 years old, and constructed out of Marble, which, as there was none in the immediate area, must have been imported at great cost and difficulty. Ancient scripts revealed that it had been built at the order of Maximillion Pegasus, but no one knew who he was, nor what he had built the Marble Pyramid for. Grauner suspected he had been an important and wealthy person, and that the Pyramid was a emblem to his wealth. Eventually, he reached his aide, who was looking at the door. It was, as his aide had said, carved with intricate designs, of hieroglyphics, and an eye. There was a small electronic light emanating from the handle. Grauner was highly interested by this. Back in the 21st century, they had achieved basic electrical structures such as computers, primitive forms of the codem. This looked to be little more than a timer though, electronic digits slowly counting down. He looked more closely at the small, flickering red digits. :=Y=:=D=:=H=:=M=:=S=:0000: 000: 00: 01: 02. That was odd. Most of the Pyramid had been in hieroglyphic script, which was odd enough in itself, as hieroglyphics hadn't bee used for roughly 2500 years before the Pyramid, but this, in contrast, was in English. Years, days, hours, minutes, seconds. He was sure of it. :=Y=:=D=:=H=:=M=:=S=:0000: 000: 00: 00: 48. The timer kept slowly going down. What a co-incidence, what an amazing turn of fortune, thought Grauner. It would open in 48 seconds! As thought it had been waiting for them... "Steven, it's a... timer. Electric powered." "I know, Prof. And it will trigger any minute now. I... I can't believe it... this is amazing." "We'll be famous! Imagine how Mia will feel about that!" Grauner thought of his wife as he said. Mia had been three months pregnant when he had left. He grinned at the thought of this. Hopefully, by the time he arrived back, he would be there to greet his child. The ultrasounds had confirmed it as a girl, and they had decided on a name. Kishara. :=Y=:=D=:=H=:=M=:=S=:0000: 000: 00: 00: 03. :=Y=:=D=:=H=:=M=:=S=:0000: 000: 00: 00: 02. :=Y=:=D=:=H=:=M=:=S=:0000: 000: 00: 00: 01. :=Y=:=D=:=H=:=M=:=S=:0000: 000: 00: 00: 00. There was a mechanical beeping, and then Grauner and Steve jumped as a the door slid open with a fearsome grinding. The bodyguard came running, and then stopped when he saw the open door. Grauner looked back at him, then into the dark, gloomy depths of the Pyramid. He could feel cool air rushing out of the Pyramid, a welcome relief against the desert. "I'm going in." he said firmly. "But sir, what if there are traps, or... or it collapses, or... well, what if-" "What if, what if. Steve, this is our big chance. Imagine what could be in there! What treasures we could find!" "I am imagining what is in there, and I don't like it one bit." "Come on, Steve!" Grauner begged, before giving up. "Very well, I go alone." "Alright, I'll come!" the aide replied. "I have been ordered to tail you. I must come." intoned the bodyguard, his voice as menacing as his impressive bulk. Soon, armed with light and sensor codems, they descended through the doors and down a flight of stairs, into the Marble Pyramid. It was actually quite cold inside. Grauner shivered, but partly from excitement. The drawings on the wall of the Pyramid were amazing. He stopped, and inspected them, noting the detail that had been put into their construction. They seemed to deal with two repeated images again and again: a beautiful lady and a fearsome knight. There was also the eye symbol seen on the door. Grauner recognised it as the Eye of Wdjat, a Pre-Ancient Symbol. Then, the stairs abruptly ended. Grauner and his aide stopped. The dim glow of their torches light one object. A golden sarcophagus, austere and impressive, in the centre of a massive room, filled with ornate pillars, a bizarre clash between 21st century architecture and Early Egyptian architecture. Grauner, Steve, and the bodyguard all entered the room. Then, there was another metallic scraping, and suddenly, a door slid shut behind them, blocking the stairs. They were trapped. They all rushed to the door, but it was futile. It would not budge. Light then filled the room as torches light around the tomb, bursting into flame. "What are you doing in my sanctuary?" said a female voice behind them. They turned, stunned, to see a woman with dark black hair, and deep sapphire eyes, with a golden head-dress and a billowing white robe. She surveyed them. There was clear anger in her eyes, which blazed with a deep internal fire. "Do you know who I am?" she said, with a strange, archaic accent. Grauner shook his head, muted by the impressive yet mysterious woman standing before him. "Ah... in that case, I am sorry, but you may not leave this place, unless you defeat me in a duel. I was entrusted with the safekeeping of this place and it's contest, and all who come must die." Grauner's eyes opened wide with shock. Just then, the bodyguard launched himself at the woman. He grabbed her, and pushed her to the ground, lying on top of her and grabbing her arm, before twisting it behind her back. The woman made no cry of pain, but merely took this abuse quietly. "Let us out, you devil!" the bodyguard whispered to her. "I would let me go right now, or else." she answered him quietly. "Violence does not affect me." "Oh yeah?" said the bodyguard, before slapping her across the face, and pushing her further down with his weight, trying to subdue her. The woman did nothing but look at him. Grauner had the feeling like ice was being poured into his brain. It hurt so much, and it was so cold. He could see... dark echoes was the best way to describe it. The feeling was awful. Then, as quickly as it had come, it stopped. The bodyguard slumped suddenly, and the woman pulled him off her, and stood up gracefully. She then rolled him over. Grauner looked at him in shock, and then almost screamed. His eyes were completely blank, just a pale white, no iris, no pupil, just blankness. He looked dead. "What... did you do to him..." Steve whispered. "Sent his mind to the Shadow Realm. I am sorry. There was no other alternative. Now, do you wish to duel me?" The woman said his with real regret in her voice. "What do you mean, duel me?" questioned Grauner. The woman replied. "Duel Monsters." "That's just a game!" Grauner giggled with hysteria. He wasn't sure what was going on anymore, or whether this was just a strange nightmare. Next to him, his aide shuddered. "It is far more than a game. Far more than a game indeed. Now, which one of you wishes to duel?" "I will." said Grauner. "He will." said the aide simultaneously. "Very well." the woman said, before turning to face the aide. Then she walked over to the aide, and kissed him, briefly, on the forehead. The aide collapsed, his eyes blank spheres. The woman then faced Grauner. "Only one can leave this place, and only if he proves himself worthy. Now, pick your cards." Oddly, she gestured towards the sarcophagus. Grauner hesitantly walked over to it, and removed the lid. Inside, where... cards. Hundreds of cards. He picked one up. They were... Duel Monsters cards? "Yes." said the woman, as though reading his mind. "They are. Now, make your Deck." Grauner quickly selected a few cards. He couldn't really focus, not with the woman staring at him, a solemn smile on her lips. Eventually, he had 40 cards, and he walked over to her. "Come." she said, and walked over to a depression in the floor of the room. She pointed at the opposite side of the depression. "You go there." Grauner did so, and to his astonishment, a Duel Disk lay there, the basic hologram device that was still used today for duels. This one looked old, though. The words KaibaCorp were embranded across it. He picked it up from the floor, and slotted his Deck into the Deck Zone. He looked at the woman. She had done the same. Then, she looked at him, those brilliant blue eyes holding his look, and nodded once, her black hair swaying. "Let the duel... begin." ------------------------------------------------------------------ Yep, that's Chapter 7. Chapter 8 is the mysterious lady versus Professor Grauner. Note that Umbra's character, Kishara Grauner, is mentioned briefly, although she isn't born yet. Pica won't be born for another two and a half years, and Argent for four. Deucalion
Okay, this post is placeholder for Gin Korumaru's Deck, but while it's placeholding, it can also explain:

Celtic Guardian x3Command Knight 3Armed Samurai Ben Kei x3Iron Blacksmith Kotetsu x3Mystic Swordsman Lv2Mystic Swordsman Lv4Mystic Swordsman Lv6Gilford the Legend x3
Monster Reincarnation x3Monster RebornGraceful CharityCard DestructionLegendary SwordShooting Star - CealBig Bang ShotAxe of DespairMage PowerReinforcement of the Army x3Heavy StormFusion Sword Murasame BladeWicked Breaking Flamberge - BaouSwords of Revealing Light
Royal DecreeGravity Bind x3 The year is about 3000 AD. The Marble Pyramid was built roughly 2010 AD, and the original Pyramids were built in 2560 BC. So the Marble Pyramid is fairly new, as Pyramids go. This is actually set after the events of Yu-Gi-Oh, just so long later, it doesn't really affect the storyline. There will only be one character seen from the official YuGiOh series appearing in this fanfic, so no worries. That Chapter 7 sets up parts of Kishara's bio, as she is set to be a main character. Kishara is Umbra's character, and Gin Korumaru was baritone_rob's.
