ESPN to Cover DOTA 2 Championship

Huh, well I don't care much about DOTA 2 itself, but that's actually really interesting. I'm glad that maybe these things will get more coverage and popularity. Always nice to get more esport representation in the media. Hope that we don't get some kind of political anti-game stuff spawning from this. I already can tell that there's gonna be a lot of flak but we'll see how it's handled.

Just goes to show that Dota 2 is so much better than League amirite

I'm actually really hoping they use the noob-friendly stream that's been present for most games this International, basically the casters go out of their way to explain some basic stuff whilst the usual casters aren't quite as simple.

I'm just imagined a 50's something white guy who casts Basketball or Baseball casting for my League of Legends Championship Series streams, and it horrifies me.

No lie, would watch that. That sounds hilarious.

Original DotA master race tho.

Because Goblin Techies. are coming to Dota 2 post-TI, probably

I'm just sitting here all hype mode for Oracle if they ever decide to port him

*Has not actually played Dota 2*

I mean if your net isn't shit leave it to download, play the tutorial and see if you like it. Honestly I can't describe how fun it is without seeming biased and any arguments I make I'm always heavily outnumbered by the amount of people who play League

The tutorial was a bit of a slog to get through, as I've been through it like twice and it kept resetting so I couldn't do the second part.

Also, part of it is just me being terrified to play it.  I'm bad enough at LoL, and DOTA 2 is way more complicated.

This is really cool news. Although I've never played any MOBA for too long besides Awesomenauts (I played SMITE and LoL for a short while but lost interest) and I've never actually seen anything of Dota 2 before, I think I'll watch some of it.

Ha, I love when someone starts "DotA master rayce" out of nowhere. DotA and LoL are completly different games, neither is better than the other, it's a matter of prefference. Get over it.

OT: Well, that's pretty awesome. Meanwhile, the next LCS round will be broadcasted here in Poland in cinemas, so as far as I can see, e-sports is moving forward everywhere. Great to hear <3

Man it's sooo weird to go on ESPN and see "Dota Championship" on the front page.

However, I just want to point out that I think the main reason ESPN even picked them up is because these past few days after the MLB All Star game are generally known as the "deadest days in sports", where literally nothing else is happening outside of Golf.

This is why they should have covered EVO first. Fighting Games are probably the easiest thing to follow as long as it isn't MvC.

2D fighters in general are pretty mechanically intensive. UMVC3, SF 4, and SSBM are really weird to watch if you don't know about the game whereas Tekken would be one of the easier ones to get.

It doesn't matter how mechanically intensive they are if the physical actions the characters make are easy to follow. All you have to really follow are the life bars/stocks, and who's beating up on whom. You don't need to know what a wavedash or an l-cancel to understand if something crazy happens in SSBM. You don't need to know the intricacies of the button combinations in SF4 to know when someone's pulling off a sick combo. It's not weird at all to understand the basic concept of a 1 v 1 fight.

The same can't exactly be said for such a slow paced game like a MOBA where there are things happening all over the battlefield at once and there's a lot of things to keep track of.

It's like trying to watch Boxing for the first time vs trying to watch Cricket for the first time.

I guess I might just be thinking of the commentary. I mean the average person won't get the terminology used.

UMVC3 is kind of weird at times though. You'll see someone winning then out of nowhere, Zero gets an infinite combo on everyone and wins and everyone watching is just like "dafuq just happened? Shouldn't there be a rule against this?"
